Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Battling sore hip

McKinstry was pulled from Wednesday's game against Kansas City with hip soreness, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports.

McKinstry left the game after he came up hobbling following a collision with Jac Caglianone in the seventh inning. Manager A.J. Hinch said after the game that he was always planning to keep McKinstry on the bench Thursday, so he'll have an extra day to recover before potentially returning to the starting nine Friday.

Tigers' Zach McKinstry: Exits after collision

McKinstry was removed from Wednesday's game against the Royals after colliding with Jac Caglianone in the seventh inning, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

A grounder to third base put McKinstry in the path of the running Caglianone, causing the former to trip and come up favoring his left leg. The severity of McKinstry's injury remains unknown, but any missed time would likely open up more opportunities for Matt Vierling and Wenceel Perez.

  • Red Sox's Andruw Monasterio: Slots in at first base

Monasterio started at first base and went 3-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's 9-5 win over Minnesota.

Monasterio, who stepped in at first base Tuesday when Willson Contreras was removed due to a back issue, started there Wednesday. The three-hit day was the first multi-hit effort of the season for Monasterio, who entered the contest batting .143 (2-for-14) in limited playing time. The Red Sox are off Thursday, which gives Contreras downtime ahead of the four-game set with the Tigers begins Friday.

  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

    Rangers' Jake Burger: Idle Wednesday

Burger isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Athletics.

Burger will get a day to rest Wednesday after going 3-for-8 with two homers and five RBI through the first two games of the series. Joc Pederson will fill in for him at first base, moving Wyatt Langford into the DH spot while Ezequiel Duran patrols left field.

  • Kyle Karros 3B | COL

    Rockies' Kyle Karros: Sitting Wednesday

Karros is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros.

Willi Castro will cover third base while Karros receives a breather Wednesday. Karros had started in each of the Rockies' previous four games, going 2-for-11 with two walks and a run.

  • Jose Tena DH | WAS

Nationals' Jose Tena: Playing time trending down

Tena is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Pirates.

Tena has started in just one of the Nationals' last six games, sitting on three occasions against left-handed starters and twice against righties. The 25-year-old has posted a modest .665 OPS over 28 plate appearances on the season and may have to settle for more of a part-time role if Washington elects to open up playing time for Jorbit Vivas (.814 OPS in 40 plate appearances).

  • Rays' Ben Williamson: Grabbing seat Wednesday

Williamson is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game versus the White Sox.

He had two doubles and plated three runs in Tuesday's win over the White Sox, but he finds himself on the bench a day later. Williamson and Richie Palacios have shared second base for the Rays this season, and it will be Palacios handling the keystone Wednesday.

  • Caleb Durbin 3B | BOS

Red Sox's Caleb Durbin: Taking seat in series finale

Durbin is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Twins.

Durbin will receive a routine day off after compiling a poor .389 OPS in his first 16 games this season. Isiah Kiner-Falefa will handle third base and bat ninth for the Red Sox.

  • Diamondbacks' Ildemaro Vargas: Moves to 2B

Vargas started at second base, batted leadoff and went 1-for-5 with a three-run home run in Tuesday's 4-3 win over the Orioles.

Vargas was pressed into duty at second base and the leadoff spot when Ketel Marte (back) was scratched. The utility infielder didn't miss a beat, cracking a three-run home run as part of Arizona's four-run fifth inning. Vargas has hit in all 11 games played thus far, slashing .381/.409/.667 with seven extra-base hits (two home runs) and eight RBI. Marte's injury is not considered serious, and Vargas could move back to first base, where's been a regular fill-in for Pavin Smith (elbow, 60-day IL) and Carlos Santana (thigh).

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Stays hot with homer in loss

Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Cardinals.

Ramirez stayed hot Tuesday when he gave Cleveland an early spark with a solo homer off Michael McGreevy in the first inning, his third long ball of the season. The star third baseman later singled in the eighth and came around to score the go-ahead run before St. Louis rallied late. After a brutal start to the year, Ramirez has looked much more like himself recently, going 9-for-24 (.375) with two homers, three RBI, six runs scored and five stolen bases over his last six games.
