Peterson will sit Monday against the Red Sox, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Peterson will remain on the bench for a second consecutive game after he went 2-for-8 with a double, an RBI, a run scored and a stolen base over Oakland's three-game series with the Twins. Jordan Diaz will draw the start at the hot corner and bat second in the series opener with Boston.

Madrigal (hamstring) took batting practice Monday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

He fielded some grounders, as well. Madrigal has been on the shelf for nearly all of July with a right hamstring strain but appears to be making progress. It's not clear whether he will require a rehab assignment before returning.

Candelario (thumb) will start at third base and bat third Monday against the Cubs, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Candelario was a late scratch from the lineup ahead of Sunday's 8-4 loss to the Cardinals when his thumb bothered him in pregame warmups, but he looks on track to give it a go Monday. If Candelario's thumb is still presenting complications in the field leading up to the 8:05 p.m. ET opening pitch, the Nationals could turn to Ildemaro Vargas to spell him at third base.

Garcia is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Tigers, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Garcia will take a seat for the first time since June 14, breaking a streak of 26 consecutive starts. The move to the bench comes after Garcia had fallen into a bit of a slump at the dish of late, as he's gone 3-for-26 over his last seven starts. Nicky Lopez will spell him at third base Monday.

Moustakas went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Sunday in a loss to the Astros.

Moustakas put the Angels on the board and tied the game in the second inning with a 415-foot blast to center field. It was the veteran slugger's second homer in as many days and his fourth in 14 games since joining the Halos on June 24. Moustakas is hitting just .240 with his new team, though, and has struck out at a troublesome 33.3 percent rate.

Newman was placed on the 10-day injured list Monday with gastritis.

The move was retroactive to Friday, so Newman will be eligible for activation July 24, and he should be ready to go by then or shortly after. Newman has been a useful short-side platoon guy this season with a .901 OPS versus lefties.

Triolo went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored Sunday against the Giants.

Triolo extended his hitting streak to nine games with the effort, and he's hit .333 with a .395 on-base percentage in that span. He's reached base consistently across 57 career plate appearances in the majors, though he has only two extra-base hits. Triolo will likely lose out on playing time when Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) is able to return, though it's unclear when that may be.

Burger went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run Sunday against Atlanta.

Burger blasted a two-run homer in the second inning, his fourth long ball in his last 10 games. He's also chipped in seven runs scored and seven RBI in that span, while reaching base at a .351 clip. Over a larger sample, Burger has an elevated strikeout rate that will preclude him from being a well-rounded producer. However, with 21 home runs across 274 plate appearances on the season, he's a proven source of power so long as Yoan Moncada (back) is sidelined.

Shenton has been promoted from Double-A Montgomery to Triple-A Durham.

Shenton is already 25, so he is old for a player making his Triple-A debut. After being roughly league average at Double-A in 2021 (103 wRC+) and 2022 (100 wRC+), Shenton was 58 percent better than league average this year, slashing .307/.415/.567 with 15 home runs in 73 games. He received the majority of his starts at third base while at Double-A, but Shenton has been filling in at first base during his Triple-A time for Kyle Manzardo (undisclosed), who is on the injured list.

Jung went 1-for-4 with two RBI in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Guardians

Jung, who was 1-for-his-last-12 in the series, delivered the go-ahead runs with a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth inning. His was the third consecutive run-producing hit during Texas' four-run eighth. The All-Star third baseman is up to 58 RBI for the season, which leads all rookies.
