  • Padres' Manny Machado: Continues power surge

Machado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a walk Friday in an 8-3 victory versus the Phillies.

Machado had been swinging a hot stick entering the All-Star break, and he carried over that momentum in the second half, swatting a solo shot to left field in the sixth inning. It was his seventh homer in his past nine games after the veteran third baseman went deep just nine times over his first 66 contests of the campaign. During the nine-game power surge, Machado is slashing .389/.463/1.000 and has knocked in 17 runs while scoring 11 times.

  • Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Battling bone bruise in thumb

Candelario was removed from Friday's game against the Cardinals in the first inning with a bone bruise in his right thumb, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.

Per manager Davey Martinez, Candelario hurt his thumb doing a defensive drill before the game. The third baseman tried to play through it, but the injury felt worse when he tried to swing a bat. While he should be considered day-to-day for now, an IL stint may be on the table if Candelario doesn't show improvement in the next 24 hours.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Goes deep twice

Devers went 3-for-5 with two solo homers in Friday's win over the Cubs.

Devers wasted no time starting his second half off right with solo homers in the second and third innings. He's up to 22 long balls with an .841 OPS through 380 plate appearances. The 26-year-old slugger snapped a seven-game homerless drought and is now hitting .356 (21-for-59) with five home runs over the last 16 games.

  • Jose Miranda 3B | MIN

Twins' Jose Miranda: Scratched with sore shoulder

Miranda was scratched from the lineup for Friday's game against the A's with right shoulder soreness, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

Miranda has been battling soreness in his right shoulder since early in spring training. The extent of his latest setback is unknown at this time. Alex Kirilloff will enter the lineup at first base as Kyle Farmer moves to third base and Donovan Solano slides to second.

  • Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Pulled after first at-bat Friday

Candelario was removed from Friday's game against the Cardinals after striking out in his first at-bat, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Ildemaro Vargas took over at third base to begin the bottom of the first inning, suggesting Candelario is dealing with some kind of injury. The Nationals are clear sellers and the 29-year-old could be on the move before the trade deadline.

  • Nick Maton DH | CHW

Tigers' Nick Maton: Recalled, starting Friday

The Tigers recalled Maton from Triple-A Toledo on Friday, and he will start at second base and bat seventh in the series opener against the Mariners.

Maton responded well to his recent demotion, slashing .289/.417/.526 with two homers and seven walks compared to 10 strikeouts across 11 games with Toledo to earn another opportunity with the big-league club. He is slashing just .163/.289/.287 across 239 plate appearances with the Tigers this season and has a long way to go before he can be considered viable in shallower fantasy leagues.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Brewers' Brian Anderson: Scratched with back discomfort

Anderson was scratched Friday with lower-back discomfort, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

It sounds like a day-to-day issue for Anderson. Andruw Monasterio is starting at third base and hitting sixth against the Reds.

  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Brewers' Brian Anderson: Scratched from Friday's lineup

Anderson was scratched from Friday's lineup against the Reds.

This is tough timing, as the scratch was announced less than two hours before first pitch and Anderson was a solid streaming option this weekend in Cincinnati. It's unclear what the nature of his injury is. Andruw Monasterio will start at third base.

  • Trey Cabbage 1B | PIT

Angels' Trey Cabbage: Contract purchased Friday

Cabbage's contract was selected from Triple-A Salt Lake on Friday.

The 26-year-old has seen time at first base, right field and left field this year at Triple-A while slashing .287/.358/.576 with 23 home runs and 24 steals in 81 games. He hits the ball very hard, but his 31.3 percent strikeout rate and age suggest he could be a Quad-A hitter.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: To IL with shin contusion

Rendon (left shin contusion) was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday, retroactive to July 11.

Rendon was in the midst of a 4-for-47 (.085 average) slump over his last 14 games before suffering the injury July 4, and he apparently didn't show significant improvement over the All-Star break. Michael Stefanic and Trey Cabbage were added to the active roster to bolster the Angels' infield in the short term.
