  • Isaac Paredes 3B | HOU

Rays' Isaac Paredes: Plays big part in rout

Paredes went 3-for-6 with a home run, three total runs and four total RBI in the nightcap of a doubleheader against the Angels on Saturday.

Paredes went hitless over four at-bats in a Game 1 loss, but he made up for it with a huge performance in Game 2. He knocked a run-scoring single in the fifth inning and followed that with a three-run blast in the sixth. This was the sixth time this season Paredes has driven in at least four runs in a contest, and he leads Tampa Bay with 76 RBI while tying for first with 24 long balls.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Swats 26th homer

Arenado went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 13-2 loss to the Mets.

Arenado is batting .303 (20-for-66) with four homers in August, but he has just eight RBI over 16 contests this month. The third baseman's warm stretch has lifted his slash line to .283/.329/.509 for the season, and he's added 26 homers, 85 RBI, 58 runs scored and two stolen bases through 118 games overall. He's still got enough season left to get to his usual milestones of 30 homers and 100 RBI.

  • Jake Burger 1B | TEX

Marlins' Jake Burger: Four hits across twin bill

Burger went 4-for-7 with a run scored across both games of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Dodgers.

Burger was solid at the plate, collecting four of the Marlins' 13 hits between the two games. The third baseman extended his hitting streak to 11 games, a span in which he's gone 19-for-43 (.442) with six extra-base hits and nine RBI. He's at a .240/.305/.528 slash line with 27 home runs, 63 RBI, 52 runs scored and a stolen base through 105 contests between the Marlins and the White Sox this year. He's maintained steady playing time since he joined Miami.

  • Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Homers, tallies three hits

Devers went 3-for-5 with a solo home run in Saturday's 8-1 win over the Yankees.

Devers singled in each of his first two at-bats before crushing a solo homer in the top of the ninth, which served as the final blow to New York on the afternoon. It was the third baseman's second consecutive game with three hits, and he's now homered in two of his last three contests, racking up five RBI over that stretch to go along with four runs scored.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: Breather in Game 2

Peterson will sit Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader with San Diego.

Peterson will take a seat after he went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in the Diamondbacks' 6-4 win in Game 1. Geraldo Perdomo will slide over to third base while Nick Ahmed enters the lineup at shortstop and bats eighth in the nightcap versus the Padres.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Dealing with rib inflammation

Garcia's recent absences have been due to costochondritis, an inflammation near his ribs, though the issue isn't believed to be serious, Joel Goldberg of Bally Sports Kansas City reports.

Garcia missed a pair of games last weekend with a vaguely defined upper-body injury, and he's been absent for the first two games of this weekend's series at Wrigley Field for the same reason. The rookie infielder is feeling better and was reportedly available off the bench Saturday, per Jaylon T. Thompson of The Kansas City Star, but he didn't wind up getting into the game in a 6-4 loss.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Sitting for nightcap

Muncy isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Game 2 of the Saturday's doubleheader with Miami, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Muncy went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk during Game 1, and he'll get a breather to cap off Saturday's activities. Enrique Hernandez will draw the start at the hot corner and bat eighth.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Reds' Kevin Newman: Placed on injured list

The Reds placed Newman on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain, retroactive to Aug. 16.

Newman was previously on the injured list with an illness in late July, and now an oblique injury will force him out for at least another week. Top prospect Noelvi Marte was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.

  • Abraham Toro 1B | BOS

Brewers' Abraham Toro: Optioned to Nashville

The Brewers optioned Toro to Triple-A Nashville on Saturday, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Despite putting up strong numbers in the majors and minor leagues this season, Toro received just one plate appearance -- which resulted in a walk -- during his latest stint with the Brewers. The return of Rowdy Tellez (finger) from the IL will force Toro back to Nashville, though Toro could return as a depth piece once rosters expand in September.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Sidelined Saturday

Garcia (upper body) will not start Saturday's game against the Cubs.

Garcia missed two games last weekend with an upper-body issue, and he left Friday's series opener with a similar problem. The Royals have yet to announce an official diagnosis, but the team has every reason to be cautious down the stretch given its 40-84 record. Matt Duffy will fill in at the hot corner Saturday.
