Josh Jung 3B | TEX
Rangers' Josh Jung: Could be activated Monday
Manager Bruce Bochy said Thursday that Jung (thumb) could be activated from the injured list ahead of Monday's series opener against the Red Sox, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.
There was some hope that Jung would be ready to return for the Rangers' three-game weekend series in Cleveland, but he still has a couple of small hurdles to clear in his recovery from Aug. 9 surgery to repair a fracture in his left thumb. Josh Smith and Jonathan Ornelas have been sharing time at third base for Texas over the last week.

Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Returns from IL
The Blue Jays reinstated Chapman (finger) from the 10-day injured list Thursday.
A sprained finger forced Chapman onto the injured list Aug. 28, and he'll now return as Toronto's everyday third baseman after making significant progress in his recovery across the past few days. The 30-year-old was in a considerable slump at the plate before getting injured, slashing .197/.256/.276 since the beginning of August. Nathan Lukes was optioned to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move.

Brett Baty 3B | NYM
Mets' Brett Baty: Out with mild groin strain
Baty was diagnosed Thursday with a mild left groin strain and is considered day-to-day, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.
Baty aggravated his groin while running the bases in the Mets' win over the Diamondbacks on Wednesday and is not in the lineup for Thursday's series finale, though it sounds like he might be able to avoid the 10-day injured list. Mark Vientos is playing third base for New York on Thursday as Daniel Vogelbach fills the DH role.

Brett Baty 3B | NYM
Mets' Brett Baty: Not in lineup, getting scans
Baty is not in the lineup Thursday versus Arizona as he undergoes imaging scans on his left groin, Abbey Mastracco of the New York Daily News reports.
Danny Mendick has joined the Mets in New York in case Baty requires a stint on the 10-day injured list. The young third baseman felt discomfort in his groin while running the bases in Wednesday's win over the Diamondbacks, and manager Buck Showalter revealed afterward that it has been a lingering issue. Mark Vientos will handle the hot corner in Thursday's series finale.

Giants' J.D. Davis: Smacks game-tying homer
Davis went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run and a walk in Wednesday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Guardians.
Davis' eighth-inning blast tied the game at 5-5. The infielder is batting .313 with three homers and eight RBI over 10 games in September. He's sat out against two of the last four right-handed pitchers the Giants have faced, but he's still in the lineup more often than not between third base, first base and designated hitter. For the season, Davis is slashing .251/.327/.421 with 18 homers, 68 RBI, 57 runs scored, one stolen base, 21 doubles and one triple through 133 games.

LeMahieu is out of the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader in Boston.

Nationals' Carter Kieboom: Not in Thursday's lineup
Kieboom is absent from the lineup for Thursday's game versus the Pirates, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.
Kieboom was playing regularly for a while at third base after being called up in late August, but he's now started just two of the last six games and both of those came against lefies. Jake Alu is at the hot corner Thursday.

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Another two hits in loss

The third baseman also added a double and has now recorded at least two hits in back-to-back games and in five of his last seven. He's batting .288 in September with two homers, two steals, four RBI and four runs scored.
