  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: On bench for later game

McMahon is out of the lineup for the second game of Tuesday's doubleheader versus the Dodgers.

McMahon went 0-for-4 with two strikeouts in the opening game of the twin bill at Coors Field. Harold Castro will cover third base and bat seventh in the nightcap.

  • Royce Lewis 3B | MIN

    Twins' Royce Lewis: Taking swings

Lewis (hamstring) was swinging a bat Tuesday, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

The 24-year-old has been sidelined by a strained hamstring since Sept. 20, so his relatively quick return to swinging a bat is an encouraging sign. Lewis will be eligible to be reinstated from the injured list on the final day of the regular season Sunday, though it remains to be seen if he's expected to be healthy by that point.

  • Oswald Peraza 3B | LAA

Yankees' Oswald Peraza: Goes deep Monday

Peraza went 1-for-3 with a solo home run, an additional RBI and a walk Monday in a 6-4 victory versus the Diamondbacks.

Peraza came through with a big blast in the seventh inning, tying the score 3-3 with a 443-foot shot to left-center field. Arizona retook the lead in the following frame, but New York tied the game in the bottom of the eighth when Peraza walked with the bases loaded. The performance broke a seven-game stretch without an RBI for Peraza, who slashed .154/.214/.192 with a 39.3 percent strikeout rate over the cold stretch.

  • David McCabe 3B | ATL

Braves' David McCabe: Heading to AFL

McCabe will play for the Salt River Rafters this year in the Arizona Fall League.

McCabe, a 23-year-old switch-hitting third baseman Atlanta selected in the fourth round of the 2022 draft, had a strong first full season in pro ball, although he was old for the levels he played at. He posted a 145 wRC+ with Single-A Augusta and then slashed .281/.388/.428 with nine home runs and nine steals in 81 games for High-A Rome. His 30.7 percent hard-hit rate and 14.5 percent soft-hit rate on the season were strong marks, and it's encouraging that he maintained a 15.2 percent walk rate at High-A while cutting his strikeout rate from 26.7 percent to 19.0 percent.

  • Jhonkensy Noel OF | BAL

Guardians' Jhonkensy Noel: Shows improvement in second half

Noel slashed .246/.320/.451 with 14 home runs in 69 games during the second half for Triple-A Columbus.

Given that he is the second-youngest qualified hitter at Triple-A this year (behind Masyn Winn), Noel can be forgiven for struggling in the first half (.673 OPS). The 22-year-old has a 116.5 mph maximum exit velocity and a 106.3 mph 90th percentile exit velocity, but he also made too much soft contact (24.7 percent), so he could benefit in 2024 from being more selective at the plate.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: On bench Monday

Peterson is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Yankees.

Peterson had started in three of the Diamondbacks' last four matchups versus right-handed starting pitchers, but he'll take a seat Monday even with righty Clarke Schmidt taking the hill for the Yankees. Emmanuel Rivera will get the nod at third base in place of Peterson.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Royals' Matt Duffy: Hits second homer

Duffy went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Astros.

This was just the sixth game Duffy's gotten into in September -- the Royals have often opted to evaluate younger players in preparation for 2024. The homer was Duffy's second of the campaign. The infielder is slashing .249/.299/.324 with 15 RBI, 16 runs scored and a stolen base through 201 plate appearances. He'll likely close out this season in a bench role.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Tallies three hits Sunday

Ramirez went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Sunday's 5-1 loss to the Orioles.

Ramirez accounted for more than half of the Guardians' five hits in the game. He's hit well in September, batting .304 (28-for-92) with five stolen bases, three home runs and nine RBI over 23 games. For the season, the 31-year-old is up to a .281/.355/.481 slash line with 24 homers, 80 RBI, 86 runs scored, 27 stolen bases, 36 doubles and five triples through 151 contests.

  • Patrick Wisdom 3B | SEA

Cubs' Patrick Wisdom: Provides boost Sunday

Wisdom went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run home run in Sunday's 4-3 win over the Rockies.

Wisdom helped the Cubs overcome a 3-1 deficit during a three-run sixth inning, with his 22nd home run of the season serving as the big blow. It was the 32-year-old's first long ball this month, however, as he's slipped into a bench role in Chicago, though playing time is available in the short term for however long Jeimer Candelario (back) and Nick Madrigal (hamstring) are out.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Giants' J.D. Davis: Heads to bench Sunday

Davis is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Davis is 1-for-13 with two walks and four strikeouts over his past five games and will take a seat for Sunday's series finale in Los Angeles. Wilmer Flores is starting at the hot corner and batting third.
