Machado has missed a few games lately and has largely been limited to serving as the designated hitter in September due to an elbow injury, and he'll take a seat after the Padres' eight-game win streak was snapped Saturday. Xander Bogaerts will rest his legs as San Diego's designated hitter while Ha-Seong Kim works as shortstop.

Escobar is 3-for-24 with nine strikeouts over his past eight games, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's series finale in Minnesota. The veteran infielder will likely have a lesser role during the final week of the regular season with Mike Moustakas (forearm) being reinstated from the injured list.

Angels' Mike Moustakas: Activated from IL
The Angels reinstated Moustakas (forearm) from the 10-day injured list Sunday.
Moustakas landed on the IL with a strained left forearm Sept. 15, and he'll return from injury just in time to replace C.J. Cron (back), who went on the injured list Sunday. Moustakas was 9-for-35 with three RBI and a run scored since Sept. 1 before getting injured.

Vargas is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader versus Atlanta, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Vargas has an .821 OPS through 14 games in September and will take a seat for Sunday's matinee. Carter Kieboom is starting at the hot corner and batting seventh.

Riley is out of the lineup for Game 1 of Sunday's doubleheader at Washington, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
The 26-year-old started the past 14 games after sitting out a couple contests due to an illness in early September, and he'll take a seat for Sunday's matinee after he posted a 1.017 OPS with three homers, 11 RBI and 10 runs during that 14-game stretch. Luke Williams will handle the hot corner in Game 1 with Riley likely to be back in the starting nine for the nightcap.

Moncada is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Red Sox.
Moncada started the past five games and will receive a day off after he posted a .786 OPS and 42.9 percent strikeout rate in that stretch. Lenyn Sosa will handle the hot corner and bat seventh for Sunday's series finale in Boston.
