    Henderson will get a breather after the Orioles clinched the American League East title Thursday. Jorge Mateo is playing shortstop and batting ninth Friday as Ramon Urias handles the hot corner and hits eighth.

    Giants' J.D. Davis: Season ends with shoulder strain

    Davis was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday, retroactive to Sept. 27, with a left shoulder strain.

    Davis injured his shoulder on a slide during Tuesday's game against the Padres and it will prematurely end his 2023 campaign. The 30-year-old will finish having slashed .248/.325/.413 with 18 home runs and 69 RBI over 144 games. Davis will be arbitration-eligible for a final time this offseason.

    Pirates' Jared Triolo: Making case for 2024 role

    Triolo went 2-for-5 with two doubles, two RBI and a run scored Thursday against the Phillies.

    Triolo has settled into a regular utility role around the infield. Since Sept. 9, he's hit .375 (18-for-48) with two home runs, five RBI and 12 runs scored, and he's recorded seven multi-hit performances across 14 starts. The Pirates will have a number of younger infielders vying for playing time to begin 2024, and Triolo may have added his name to the mix with the way he's wrapping up the current campaign.

    White Sox's Yoan Moncada: Mashes solo homer

    Moncada went 1-for-2 with a solo homer and a second run scored in Thursday's 3-1 victory over the Diamondbacks.

    Moncada drew a leadoff walk in his first plate appearance before coming around to score on an Andrew Vaughn home run that put the White Sox up 2-0. The third baseman would then add an insurance run with a leadoff shot to open the bottom of the fourth, giving him five long balls this month to go along with 11 RBI. Moncada's hit safely in six of his last eight games, though he's also struck out at least one time in 12 straight.

    Blue Jays' Matt Chapman: Breaks home run drought

    Chapman went 1-for-4 with a solo homer in Thursday's victory over the Yankees.

    Chapman went yard off Luke Weaver in the fourth inning for his 16th long ball of 2023. However, the homer was Chapman's first since Aug. 4, though he missed two weeks due to injury. The third baseman has struggled down the stretch, going 12-for-82 (.146) with five runs scored and four RBI across his last 23 games.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

    Braves' Austin Riley: Tallies three hits in win

    Riley went 3-for-4 with a triple, a double and two runs scored in Thursday's 5-3 win over the Cubs.

    Riley has logged four multi-hit efforts over his last eight games, going 12-for-30 (.400) in that span. The third baseman is up to a .282/.346/.519 slash line with 37 home runs, 96 RBI, 116 runs scored, 30 doubles, three triples and three stolen bases through 156 games this season. He continues to hit in the heart of the order in a near-everyday role.

    Yankees' Oswald Peraza: Sits down Thursday

    Peraza isn't in the Yankees' lineup Thursday against the Blue Jays.

    Peraza will sit out the series finale after being held hitless through the first two games against Toronto. Oswaldo Cabrera will instead start at third base and bat sixth.

    Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Rest day Thursday

    Hayes is not in the lineup for Thursday's game at Philadelphia.

    This appears to be a routine day of rest for Hayes, who went 2-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored in the Pirates' loss to the Phillies on Wednesday. Jared Triolo will start at third base and bat third in Thursday's series finale.

    Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Gets breather Thursday

    McMahon is not in the lineup Thursday versus the Dodgers.

    McMahon will grab some rest leading into the final weekend of the Rockies' season. Alan Trejo is starting at third base and batting seventh Thursday against Los Angeles.

  • Royals' Maikel Garcia: Sitting out Thursday

    Garcia is not in the lineup for Thursday's contest in Detroit.

    Garcia started each of the first two games of the series but will get a break for the finale. Nick Loftin will fill in at third base and MJ Melendez has been elevated to the leadoff spot.
