Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN
Reds' Noelvi Marte: Ramping up in Dominican Republic
Marte (suspension) recently reported to the Reds' facility in the Dominican Republic to continue participating in exhibition games before the start of the Dominican Summer League, Gordon Wittenmyer of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Marte is continuing to serve the 80-game suspension he was handed down in March for violating MLB's joint drug prevention and treatment program, but he's been able to stay in playing shape of late by appearing in extended spring training games in Arizona and now in the Dominican Republic. According to team president Nick Krall, the Reds plan to have Marte participate in games in the Dominican Republic for about a week to 10 days before he returns to the United States to begin an official rehab assignment in the minors. Marte, who hit .316 with three home runs and six stolen bases in 35 games for the Reds in 2023 following his late-season promotion to the big leagues, is eligible to make his 2024 debut for the big club June 27 in St. Louis.

Zack Short 3B | DET
Braves' Zack Short: Filling in for injured Riley
Short will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
Short will draw a ninth consecutive start at the hot corner while Austin Riley (side) remains day-to-day. The 28-year-old has delivered a solid .345 on-base percentage over his prior eight starts, but he's provided little fantasy value with a .208 average, zero home runs or stolen bases and two RBI and runs during that stretch. He'll fall back into a light role once Riley is cleared to return to the lineup.

Danny Mendick 3B | CHW
White Sox's Danny Mendick: On bench Wednesday
Mendick is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Blue Jays.
After being activated from the injured list Friday, Mendick had started at third base in each of the White Sox's ensuing five games, going 3-for-18 with two doubles and two RBI. Mendick should have a fairly clear path to regular playing time at the hot corner while Bryan Ramos (quadricep) is on the shelf, but he'll give way to Zach Remillard in Wednesday's series finale.

Luis Urias 2B | ATH
Mariners' Luis Urias: Gets another start Wednesday
Urias will start at third base and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Yankees.
Urias will stick in the lineup for the seventh time in eight games, but most of his playing time came while infielders J.P. Crawford (oblique) and Jorge Polanco (hamstring) were both out with injuries. Crawford and Polanco are both starting Wednesday, but the Mariners will have room in the lineup for Urias with the left-handed-hitting Josh Rojas hitting the bench against Yankees southpaw Nestor Cortes. Assuming both Crawford and Polanco are in the clear to handle everyday roles moving forward, Urias looks like he'll be relegated to the short side of a platoon with Rojas.

Austin Riley 3B | ATL
Braves' Austin Riley: Sitting again Wednesday
Riley (side) is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.
Though Riley took a step forward in his recovery from a left side strain by taking swings Tuesday, he'll remain on the bench for the ninth game in a row Wednesday. Provided he didn't experience any setbacks from Tuesday's activity and is continuing to show daily improvement, Riley still looks like he'll avoid the injured list, and his return to the lineup could happen any day.

Jon Berti 3B | CHC
Yankees' Jon Berti: On bench in second straight
Berti is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Mariners.
Berti finds himself on the bench for the second day in a row after he had started at third base in each of the preceding three games while going 3-for-9 with a home run and two walks. While he might not have eclipsed Oswaldo Cabrera on the depth chart just yet, Berti has been poaching more work of late from Cabrera, who has mustered an underwhelming .626 OPS since the beginning of May. Both Berti and Cabrera will likely see their playing time suffer when DJ LeMahieu (foot) -- who is currently in the midst of a rehab assignment -- likely returns from the 10-day injured list next week.

Ernie Clement SS | TOR
Blue Jays' Ernie Clement: Returns to bench role
Clement is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.
Clement started at third base in six consecutive games from May 10 through 17, but he's since moved back into a utility role with the likes of Justin Turner, Kevin Kiermaier and George Springer all returning to full health after missing out on multiple starts due to illnesses. Isiah Kiner-Falefa has since moved back to the hot corner after previously seeing most of his time at second base when the Blue Jays weren't at full strength.

Cole Tucker 3B | LAA
Angels' Cole Tucker: Playing time trending down
Tucker is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Astros, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Tucker made five consecutive starts at third base from May 5 through 9, but with the Angels having since acquired Luis Guillorme and returned Luis Rengifo from the injured list, Tucker's playing time has become more sparse. He's on the bench for the ninth time in the Angels' last 12 games, with two of his starts during that stretch coming in left field.

Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Giants' Matt Chapman: Lifts homer in loss
Chapman went 2-for-5 with a solo home run and a double in Tuesday's 7-6 extra-inning loss to the Pirates.
Chapman has gone 16-for-43 (.372) with eight extra-base hits and eight RBI over his last 11 games. The third baseman's homer Tuesday gave the Giants a 5-2 lead in the seventh inning. He's up to six long balls, 22 RBI, 30 runs scored, 13 doubles and five stolen bases while slashing .243/.303/.411 over 48 contests. While his .714 OPS is notably down from last year, he seems to have turned a corner in May by batting .279 after hitting just .212 in April.
