  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Optioned to Toledo

The Tigers optioned Jung to Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. Jung was recalled from Triple-A on Wednesday but will head back to the minors after going 0-for-2 during his lone appearance against the Red Sox. Zack Short re-signed with Detroit on an MLB contract Friday and will take Jung's place on the active roster.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Back in big leagues

The Tigers recalled Jung from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. He'll start at designated hitter and bat ninth in the Tigers' series finale against the Red Sox. Detroit had optioned Jung to Triple-A on Sunday, but he'll rejoin the big club just three days later after Gleyber Torres (oblique) was placed on the 10-day injured list. Capable of playing first base, second base and third base, Jung will shore up the Tigers' infield depth but isn't expected to be in line for steady at-bats during his upcoming stint in the majors.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Returns to minors

The Tigers optioned Jung to Triple-A Toledo on Sunday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Jung was called up from Toledo on Wednesday and will return there after going 1-for-4 with two walks and a run in two big-league contests. Zack Short is taking his spot on the major-league roster.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Called up, drawing start Wednesday

The Tigers recalled Jung from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday. He'll start at designated hitter and bat ninth in Detroit's matchup with Atlanta. Though he'll be making his 2026 debut for Detroit in a non-defensive role, Jung will be an option for the Tigers at three infield spots (first base, second base and third base) while he's up with the big club. With Javier Baez (ankle) landing on the injured list in a corresponding move, the Tigers have an opening the everyday lineup, but it's not clear if Jung will be in line for regular starts or if Detroit will lean on a committee of players to replace Baez. Jung has struggled in his limited opportunities at the big-league level over the previous two seasons and got off to a so-so start to the campaign at Toledo, producing a .222/.358/.364 slash line and 103 wRC+ while striking out at 22.8 percent clip over 123 plate appearances.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Sent down to Triple-A

The Tigers optioned Jung to Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Jung was recalled from Toledo last week after Colt Keith (ribs) was placed on the 10-day injured list. This time, Justyn-Henry Malloy is taking Jung's spot on the 26-man roster. Jung has appeared in 21 games for the Tigers this season, slashing .106/.236/.106 with zero extra-base hits, three RBI, eight runs scored and a 7:16 BB:K across 55 trips to the plate.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Back in big leagues

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Back in lineup Tuesday

Jung is starting at third base and batting eighth in Tuesday's game against the Red Sox. After starting three straight games, Jung got Monday off, but he'll return to the lineup a day later. The 24-year-old is starting to emerge as Detroit's top option at the hot corner, at least against righties. The eventual return of Matt Vierling (shoulder) could squeeze Jung a bit, though he should maintain a regular role for now.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Out of Tigers lineup

Jung is not in the lineup for Monday's game versus the Red Sox. Right-hander Tanner Houck is on the bump for the Red Sox, but the left-handed-hitting Jung will grab a seat after starting each of the last three games against righties. Zach McKinstry will pick up a start at third base and bat sixth for the Tigers in the series opener.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Sitting Wednesday

Jung isn't in the lineup for Wednesday's game against Colorado. Jung will get an opportunity to regroup Wednesday after going 1-for-16 with five strikeouts over his last seven games. Zach McKinstry will shift to the hot corner to fill in for Jung, who could be on his way back to Triple-A Toledo if he doesn't rediscover his swing soon.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: On bench against RHP

Jung is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels. Since being promoted from Triple-A Toledo on April 21, the lefty-hitting Jung had started in each of the Tigers' last 10 matchups with right-handed pitchers, but he's slashed just .107/.286/.107 overall. He'll now head to the bench Sunday against right-hander Jack Kochanowicz, and a return to Toledo could soon be in the cards for Jung if sitting against righties starts to become a trend.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Taking seat against southpaw

Jung is not in the Tigers' lineup Thursday against the Angels. The Angels are sending southpaw Yusei Kikuchi to the mound Thursday, so the left-handed bat of Jung will begin the game on the bench. In Jung's place, Andy Ibanez has the start at third base and is batting cleanup

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Spotted at Comerica Park

Jung joined the Tigers at Comerica Park prior to Monday's game against the Padres, Chris McCosky of The Detroit News reports. There's no word yet on if Jung will be recalled to the active roster or is just in Detroit as a precaution, but Kerry Carpenter (hamstring) did exit Sunday's game with a hamstring issue. Jung failed to make the Opening Day roster but has slashed .239/.409/.463 with three homers over his first 19 games at Triple-A Toledo.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Could benefit with Vierling out

With Matt Vierling (shoulder) set to begin the regular season on the injured list, Jung could have a clearer path to regular playing time at third base, per Joey Johnston of MLB.com. Jung was already seemingly on top of the depth chart at the hot corner, though he was likely to work in a platoon with Vierling. However, Vierling is dealing with a strained right rotator cuff muscle and will not be ready for Opening Day, so Jung may see a larger share of the playing time in the early going. If the 24-year-old gets off to a hot start, he could lock up the role more firmly for the rest of the year.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Impresses in batting practice

Jung's wrist is fully recovered from December surgery, and he put on a show during batting practice Saturday by hitting homers out to all fields, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports. With Alex Bregman choosing Boston over Detroit and a couple other teams, the third-base job is an open competition between Jung and Matt Vierling this spring. Jung has a chip on his shoulder and reported to camp early to show that he's regained the explosiveness in his swing that was more apparent in 2023. His exit velocities were below expectations last season, but Beck reports those metrics have been on the rise since minicamp in January. Jung mentioned that he did 100 push-ups a day to strengthen the wrist and also put in a lot of time with his brother, Rangers third baseman Josh Jung, working on his footwork at third base. Vierling will make the team regardless, but Jung will likely open the season at Triple-A if he can't win the third-base job in spring training.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Undergoes wrist surgery

Jung underwent a minimally invasive surgical procedure on his right wrist in October, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports. Jung had been dealing with right wrist inflammation late in the season and the 24-year-old is expected to be ready to go for spring training in February. Jung appeared in 34 games with the Tigers during the 2024 regular season, producing a .241 average with five doubles, three RBI and 14 runs scored over 79 at-bats. Manager A.J. Hinch noted Monday that Jung will be given an opportunity to win a job during spring training, and he'll see work at third base, second base and in the designated hitter slot, per Petzold.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Playing time drying up

Jung is not in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Rays. Jung has now been absent from the Tigers' lineup for seven of the last 10 games. The rookie has just a .675 OPS and 31.5 percent strikeout rate in his first 31 big-league contests. Zach McKinstry is handling third base Tuesday as manager A.J. Hinch continues to mix and match at the hot corner.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Taking seat Friday

Jung is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles. It's the fourth time Jung has been on the bench in the past five games, though two of those contests came against left-handed pitchers. The 23-year-old hasn't helped himself with Detroit making a push for a playoff spot, as he has a .222/.364/.259 slash line through 15 games in September.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Absent from Monday's lineup

Jung is not in the starting lineup for Monday's game against the Royals. Jung will be out of the starting lineup for the third time in four games, and Zach McKinstry will get the start at third base Monday. Jung has gone 5-for-23 with a .640 OPS since the beginning of September.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Not in Sunday's lineup

Jung is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Orioles. Jung has a .619 OPS through his first 24 big-league games and is hitting .227 over 22 at-bats in September, and he will head to the bench Sunday as southpaw Cade Povich takes the mound for Baltimore. Andy Ibanez will receive a start at third base and bat leadoff in the series finale.

  • Tigers' Jace Jung: Not in Friday's lineup

Jung is out of the lineup for Friday's game against the Orioles, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports. Jung started the previous four games and will receive a day off after going 2-for-9 with three walks, a double and five runs during that span. Matt Vierling will shift to third base while Wenceel Perez receives a start in right field against Baltimore righty Zach Eflin.
