  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Angels' Anthony Rendon: Advances to running bases

Rendon (hamstring) was cleared to run the bases Monday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Rendon continues to take steps forward in his rehab, and Bollinger notes that Monday's workout is the first time he's been given the green light to circle the bases since suffering a left hamstring strain. The 34-year-old remains without a firm timeline for a return, though the club should have an idea of what his minor-league rehab assignment will look like in the near future.

  • Eguy Rosario 3B | SD

Padres' Eguy Rosario: Recalled by San Diego

The Padres recalled Rosario from Triple-A El Paso on Monday.

Rosario started the season with the big club, slashing .250/.294/.542 with three home runs and six RBI over 52 plate appearances before he was optioned to the minors May 5 with Manny Machado returning to third base. In Triple-A, Rosario was slashing .289/.400/.622 with 10 home runs and 35 RBI before his second call-up to the majors. To make room for Rosario on the 26-man roster, Jose Azocar was optioned to Triple-A El Paso in a corresponding move.

  • Trey Lipscomb 3B | WAS

Nationals' Trey Lipscomb: Sent to Triple-A

The Nationals optioned Lipscomb to Triple-A Rochester on Monday.

Lipscomb was recalled from Rochester on June 12 when Joey Gallo (hamstring) was placed on the injured list. He appeared in five games for Washington following his call-up, going 1-for-11 over that span. Lipscomb will head back to Triple-A to get steadier playing time, with his demotion opening up a spot on the 26-man active roster for designated hitter/outfielder Harold Ramirez, whose contract was selected from Rochester.

  • Cavan Biggio RF | HOU

Dodgers' Cavan Biggio: Idle against lefty

Biggio is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the White Sox.

The lefty-hitting Biggio will once again hit the bench while the Dodgers face off against a lefty starter (Garrett Crochet) for the third time in four games. Platoon mate Enrique Hernandez gets the nod at third base in Biggio's stead.

  • Reds' Santiago Espinal: Playing time trending upward

Espinal will start at third base and bat seventh in Monday's game against the Pirates.

Espinal will occupy third base for the fifth time in six games, with three of those starts coming against right-handers. For the second time during that stretch, Espinal will take aim at Pirates lefty Bailey Falter, who takes the hill for the Pirates on Monday. Espinal will carry a five-game hitting streak into Monday's contest, and he could end up handling a near-everyday role in the Cincinnati infield until the team elects to reinstate Noelvi Marte (suspension) to the big-league roster. Marte's 80-game suspension comes to an end Thursday, but he's struggled during his rehab assignment at Triple-A Louisville and could be optioned if the Reds prefer to hand Espinal regular playing time.

  • Joseph Ortiz 2B | MIL

Brewers' Joey Ortiz: Taking seat Monday

Ortiz is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.

Ortiz had started each of the previous 10 contests but will begin this one on the bench. Andruw Monasterio will cover third base while Ortiz gets some rest.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Expected back soon

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol said Monday that he's optimistic Arenado (forearm) will be ready to return to the lineup in the coming days, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Arenado will miss a second straight start Monday against Atlanta with a left forearm issue, which is evidently something that's bothered the third baseman off and on throughout the season. However, he's feeling better following an injection and was working out on the field pregame Monday. Brandon Crawford will get a second straight start at the hot corner in Arenado's place.

  • Gabriel Arias SS | CLE

Guardians' Gabriel Arias: Activated, starting Monday

Arias (personal) was reinstated from the family medical emergency list and will start at shortstop and bat eighth in Monday's series opener in Baltimore.

Cleveland sent infielder Angel Martinez back to Triple-A Columbus to make room on the 26-man active roster for Arias, who rejoins the big club after missing the previous three games while tending to a personal matter. Though he'll immediately enter the lineup in his return to the Guardians as the Orioles send southpaw Cade Povich to the mound, the righty-hitting Arias is expected to serve as a bench player against right-handed pitching more often than not.

  • CJ Alexander 3B | HOU

Royals' CJ Alexander: Gets call to big leagues

The Royals selected Alexander's contract from Triple-A Omaha on Monday. He'll start at third base and bat eighth in Monday's game against the Marlins.

Alexander, 27, has hit .323/.369/.555 with nine home runs this season at Omaha. Though he'll enter the lineup Monday for his MLB debut, Alexander will likely serve as a utility player during his first stint in the big leagues.

  • Addison Barger 3B | TOR

Blue Jays' Addison Barger: Settling in at third base

Barger will start at third base and bat sixth in Monday's game against the Red Sox.

Barger will stay in the lineup for the seventh time in nine games, with each of his last four starts coming at third base. He looks like he'll be a priority over Ernie Clement at the hot corner while Isiah Kiner-Falefa shifts over to shortstop as a replacement for Bo Bichette (calf), who remains on the injured list. Since getting recalled from Triple-A Buffalo on June 14, Barger has gone 7-for-20 with a double, a walk, a stolen base, three RBI and three runs.
