Durbin went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in Thursday's 7-0 win over Toronto.

Durbin broke open a pitchers' duel with an eighth-inning grand slam that put the Red Sox up 5-0 before he singled in Boston's final run in the ninth. The blast was his 12th of the season. Durbin has been a hitting machine in the second half, recording a 130 wRC+ with 21 RBI over 27 games since the All-Star break.

The Giants claimed Whitcomb off waivers from the Astros on Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Sacramento, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Whitcomb will reclaim a roster spot after being booted off the Astros' 40-man roster Monday, though he will remain in the minors for the time being. Trevor McDonald (elbow) was transferred to the 60-day injured list in a corresponding move.

The Pirates recalled Brannigan from Triple-A Indianapolis on Thursday.

Brannigan struck out in his lone plate appearance with the Pirates this season and has slashed only .205/.305/.352 during his time with Indianapolis. The 25-year-old should serve as a reserve infielder.

Okamoto went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two runs scored and an RBI in Wednesday's win over the Red Sox.

The 30-year-old MLB rookie produced his first multi-hit performance since Aug. 3, and Okamoto's second-inning double off Ranger Suarez was his first extra-base hit in August. It's been a tough month for Okamoto, who's managed a .200/.256/.225 slash line in 12 games with two RBI and six runs, but Wednesday's effort could be a sign he's emerging from his slump.

Gonzales went 2-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in Wednesday's 8-2 loss to the Marlins.

Gonzales scored on a throwing error and a sacrifice fly for Pittsburgh's only two runs of the game. The Pirates are now 1-7 since the trade deadline, but Gonzales is third in the National League with a .307 average. The infielder is also up to 64 runs, a .760 OPS and 53 RBI across 478 plate appearances on the season.

Gelof went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and a second run scored in Wednesday's 8-4 loss to the Rays.

The 26-year-old infielder got hold of an eighth-inning sinker from Michael Grove and drove it over the left-field fence at Sutter Health Park. It was Gelof's 13th homer of the year, and his second in three games since coming off the IL after recovering from a knee injury that had sidelined him since July 9. It's been a tough year for the A's, but Gelof has put together a breakout campaign when he's been healthy, slashing .280/.331/.502 in 70 contests with eight steals, 32 RBI and 46 runs.

Bregman went 3-for-3 with two walks, three home runs and seven RBI in Wednesday's 12-6 win over the Nationals.

Bregman is officially on fire as he recorded his first career three-homer game and just his second multi-homer game of the season. The seven RBI are also a new career best. The veteran third baseman is now up to 16 long balls overall, and he's sporting a robust 1.123 OPS in 11 games this month with five of those home runs and 14 RBI. Bregman has put a sluggish start to the year behind him, and based on his recent performance, he could end up being a major difference-maker down the stretch.

Riley went 3-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and an additional run scored in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Mets.

Riley fell a triple shy of the cycle, highlighted by a 438-foot blast in the seventh inning. It continued a red-hot August for the third baseman, who's hitting .351 with seven extra-base hits, eight RBI and seven runs scored through 11 games this month. On the year, he's slashing .225/.299/.375 with 15 homers, 58 RBI, 50 runs scored and seven steals across 482 plate appearances.

Hayes is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the White Sox.

Hayes started in each of the Reds' last four games, but he went just 1-for-9 during that stretch to bring his season-long batting line down to a grisly .138/191/.234 over 178 plate appearances. Eugenio Suarez will fill in at third base for Hayes on Wednesday.

Vivas is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Cubs.

The Nationals will keep the left-handed-hitting Vivas on the bench for the second day in a row while the Cubs send another lefty (David Peterson) to the hill. Brady House will spell Vivas at third base and will bat third.
