  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Taking grounders, hitting

Jung (neck) fielded grounders prior to Friday's game, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Jung has also done some hitting as he works his way back from neck spasms, and he's set to begin a rehab assignment at Double-A Frisco on Saturday, per Kennedi Landry of MLB.com. Jung is eligible for activation from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, and he has a good shot to return that day. Josh Smith has been the primary third baseman for the Rangers since Jung was shelved.

  • Austin Riley 3B | ATL

Braves' Austin Riley: Moved down to five spot

Riley will start at third base and bat fifth in Friday's game against the Marlins.

Riley batted second in the first six games of the season and hit third in the seventh contest, so this is the lowest he's hit thus far in 2025. The 28-year-old is just 3-for-27 with an 11:2 K:BB in the early going. Ozzie Albies is batting second Friday, which is the first time he's hit higher than fifth against a righty this season.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Taking seat versus lefty

Muncy is not in the lineup for Friday's game in Philadelphia, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

It's southpaw Jesus Luzardo on the bump for the Phillies, so the left-handed-hitting Muncy will begin this one on the bench. Miguel Rojas will play third base and bat eighth in Friday's series opener.

  • Paul DeJong SS | DET

Nationals' Paul DeJong: Getting breather Friday

DeJong is not in the lineup for Friday's contest against the Diamondbacks.

It's been a struggle for DeJong in the early going this season, as he's just 4-for-18 with 11 strikeouts. He'll get a day off to regroup while Jose Tena plays third base and bats eighth.

  • Thomas Saggese LF | STL

Cardinals' Thomas Saggese: Recalled from Triple-A

The Cardinals recalled Saggese from Triple-A Memphis on Friday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

He's taking the roster spot vacated by Nolan Gorman (hamstring). Saggese had gone 4-for-14 with one home run and a 3:2 K:BB over his first four games with Memphis this season. He is likely to serve in a reserve infielder role.

  • Jorge Polanco DH | NYM

Mariners' Jorge Polanco: Back from paternity leave

The Mariners reinstated Polanco from the paternity list Thursday.

After taking two days to welcome a new addition to his family, Polanco will officially be back in action for the Mariners' series opener against San Francisco on Friday. The 31-year-old has gone 6-for-15 with four RBI in four games this season and has collected a base hit in each contest. Leo Rivas was optioned to Triple-A Tacoma in a corresponding move.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Red Sox's Alex Bregman: Breaks out Thursday

Bregman went 3-for-5 with a two-run homer, two doubles, an additional run scored and three total RBI in Thursday's 8-4 victory over the Orioles.

After failing to record an extra-base hit in his first six games this season, Bregman picked up three in Thursday's win, including a first-inning homer off Charlie Morton, his first long ball with the Red Sox. The 31-year-old Bregman is now 9-for-31 to start the year after slashing .260/.315/.453 with 26 home runs and 75 RBI in 634 plate appearances during the 2024 regular season with the Astros.

  • Oliver Dunn SS | TB

Brewers' Oliver Dunn: Out again versus lefty

Dunn is absent from the lineup for Thursday's contest against the Reds.

The Brewers are facing a lefty in Nick Lodolo, which is the fifth time in seven games that they've gone up against a southpaw. Dunn has begun all of those tilts on the bench and will again yield third base to Vinny Capra on Thursday.

  • DJ LeMahieu 2B | NYY

Yankees' DJ LeMahieu: Week away from live at-bats

Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Thursday that LeMahieu (calf) is "about a week away" from taking live at-bats, SNY.tv reports.

Boone added that it would be "a pretty big build-up" for LeMahieu, who needs to go through the equivalent of a full spring training as he works his way back from a left calf strain. With that rough timeline, it would seem LeMahieu can safely be ruled out for the remainder of April. Oswaldo Cabrera has been serving as the Yankees' primary third baseman this season.

  • Brett Harris 1B | BOS

Athletics' Brett Harris: Activated, optioned to Triple-A

The Athletics reinstated Harris (oblique) from the injured list Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A Las Vegas.

Harris landed on the injured list ahead of the season due to a strained left oblique that's been bothering him since the start of March. He began playing in rehab games at Las Vegas on Sunday, going 3-for-9 with two RBI and two stolen bases, and he'll officially remain in the minors now that he's fully healthy.
