Arenado agreed to a one-year, $26 million contract with the Rockies on Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.

It appeared as though an arbitration hearing was imminent, but after Arenado previously requested $30 million and the Rockies offered up $24 million, the two sides managed to settle on $26 million as a fair price, which is a record for a player going through the arbitration process. The 27-year-old has proven that he's worth the hefty price, belting 38 homers while driving in 110 runs and finishing with a .297 batting average in 156 games a season ago. He'll look to inflict more damage on opposing teams during the 2019 season now that he has a contract in place for at least another year.

Manager Clint Hurdle indicated Newman would compete with Erik Gonzalez for the Pirates' starting shortstop job during spring training, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

With Jordy Mercer now in Detroit and Josh Harrison still sitting on the open market, the Pirates have vacancies for both of their middle-infield spots. While Adam Frazier is seemingly in pole position for duties at the keystone, the battle between Newman and Gonzalez, an offseason pickup from the Indians, should prove to be the more competitive job battle. Heading into camp, Newman is probably behind Gonzalez in the pecking order after slashing just .209/.247/.231 in his first taste of the big leagues last season. Gonzalez, meanwhile, didn't receive many opportunities to play behind Francisco Lindor in Cleveland the past three seasons, but he's well regarded for his dynamic defense and owns a respectable .263 batting average at the MLB level.

Olt signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Sunday, according to his personal Instagram account.

Olt spent the majority of the 2018 campaign with Triple-A Pawtucket, hitting .224/.357/.430 with 11 homers in 71 games. The 30-year-old hasn't appeared in the majors since 2015 and owns a career .580 OPS across parts of three major-league seasons, so he's nothing more than organizational depth.

Bregman has yet to resume hitting following arthroscopic elbow surgery, Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Bregman is reportedly under orders from the team's training staff to take things slowly, so it's not particularly surprising that he's yet to hit, given that it's been only 15 days since the procedure. It was suggested at the time of his surgery that he'd be limited to start spring training, and the latest reports seem to support that timeline. There haven't been suggestions that his status for Opening Day is in doubt, but if a setback does occur, expect Aledmys Diaz to move into the starting lineup temporarily.

Lewis received an invitation to major-league spring training, LaVelle E. Neal III of the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.

The 19-year-old split the 2018 season between Low-A Cedar Rapids and High-A Fort Meyers, compiling a .292/.352/.451 slash line with 14 home runs, though he understandably saw a dip in production after being promoted in July. Nonetheless, the No.1 overall pick from the 2017 draft will have a chance to showcase himself at spring training, though he should still begin the season at Fort Meyers or Double-A Chattanooga.

Madrigal was invited to the White Sox's big-league camp Tuesday.

Madrigal, the fourth overall pick in 2018, didn't disappoint in his first taste of professional ball, hitting a combined .303/.353/.348 with eight stolen bases and a 5:7 K:BB in 179 plate appearances across stops in the AZL, Sally League and Carolina League. The 21-year-old figures to open the 2019 campaign at Double-A, though he should be on the fast track to the majors.

Reynolds was outrighted to Triple-A Fresno on Thursday, Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports reports.

Reynolds will head to Triple-A after passing through waivers untouched. Over parts of three major-league seasons (240 plate appearances), the 28-year-old owns a lackluster .223/.295/.340 slash line. Look for him to serve as organizational depth in 2019.

Maggi signed a minor-league contract with the Twins on Wednesday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Maggi toiled at Triple-A for a second consecutive season, hitting a respectable .272/.333/.345 with 11 stolen bases in 64 games with Columbus. He served a 50-game suspension at the beginning of the year after testing positive for Amphetamine. The utility man, who turns 30 in March, figures to offer organizational depth for the Twins in 2019.

The White Sox claim they have not moved off a seven-year offer to Machado, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

That claim was backed up by Bob Nightengale of USA Today, who reported the White Sox's original offer to Machado nearly two weeks ago. An ESPN.com report circulated Monday that the offer was bumped up to eight years, with a separate report from Z101 Digital indicating the value to be at $250 million. To recap, Chicago is standing by its original seven-year offer and has not divulged the salary involved.

Machado has received an eight-year offer from the White Sox, Jeff Passan of ESPN.com reports. The deal is reported to be worth $250 million, per Hector Gomez of Z101 Digital.

The White Sox reportedly made a long-term offer to Machado at the beginning of January, and it's unclear if that offer was for eight years or if they've increased it to eight years. In any event, the term of the contract indicates the seriousness of Chicago's pursuit of Machaco, who would fill a large hole on the left side of the infield. Machado's camp is also engaged with the Phillies, who remain in the hunt for Bryce Harper.
