  • Padres' Manny Machado: Stays hot Thursday

Machado went 4-for-5 with two runs and an RBI during Thursday's 7-5 win over the Reds.

Machado rallied the Padres with a leadoff double in the sixth, which propelled a four-run inning to give San Diego the lead. He added an RBI single in the eighth to extend the Padres' lead to three runs. Machado has nine hits over his last three games and is currently hitting .395 with 12 RBI.

  • Nick Madrigal 2B | LAA

Cubs' Nick Madrigal: Takes seat Thursday

Madrigal isn't starting Thursday's game against Atlanta.

Madrigal will get a breather after he went 2-for-11 with a double, an RBI, a walk and three strikeouts in his last three appearances. Jonathan Villar will start at the keystone and bat fifth.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Gets Thursday off

Candelario is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Twins.

He'll sit for the first time this season while he endures a prolonged slump at the plate. Harold Castro will fill it at the hot corner for Candelario, who went 0-for-10 over his last three starts to drop his season-long average to .143.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Racks up three hits Wednesday

Machado went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs and an RBI in Wednesday's 8-5 win over the Reds.

Machado plated the Padres' final run with a double in the ninth inning after singling and scoring in both the third and fifth frames. The two-bagger was his first extra-base hit since April 19, though he has consistently reached base via singles and walks during that span. Machado has seven multi-hit efforts on the season and is slashing .366/.444/.577 with three homers, 11 RBI, three stolen bases, 16 runs and an 11.2 percent walk rate over 81 plate appearances.

  • Royals' Emmanuel Rivera: Called up by Royals

The Royals recalled Rivera from Triple-A Omaha on Thursday, Alec Lewis of The Athletic reports.

Rivera was unable to secure a spot on the Opening Day roster this year, but he slashed .290/.389/.532 with three homers, a triple, four doubles, 11 runs, four RBI and a stolen base during 17 appearances at Triple-A. He'll serve as depth in the infield after Adalberto Mondesi (knee) was placed on the 10-day IL on Thursday.

  • Ramon Urias 3B | STL

Orioles' Ramon Urias: Not in Thursday's lineup

Urias will sit Thursday against the Yankees, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Urias has yet to get going at the plate this season, hitting just .203/.242/.237 through 15 games. Kelvin Gutierrez will get the start at third base.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Idle against lefty

Peterson is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Pirates.

The lefty-hitting Peterson will sit for the second straight day and the third time in four games with a southpaw (Jose Quintana) toeing the rubber for Pittsburgh. Platoon mate Mike Brosseau replaces Peterson at third base, though both players are expected to see their opportunities take a big hit in the near future with Luis Urias (quadriceps) potentially set to make his return from the injured list this weekend or early next week.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: On bench Thursday

Senzel is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Padres.

Following a recent stint on the injured list while he dealt with an illness, Senzel started in center field in each of the Reds' past six games, going a collective 5-for-19 with a home run, a double, two RBI and an additional run. He's likely just getting some routine maintenance Thursday in a day game after a night game, with Jake Fraley picking up the start in center field in his stead.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Activated, starting Thursday

The Reds activated Moustakas (biceps) from the 10-day injured list Thursday. He'll serve as the Reds' designated hitter and will bat seventh in the team's series finale with the Padres, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Manager David Bell said Wednesday that Moustakas was likely 3-to-4 days away from a return, but the Reds will end up bringing the 33-year-old back sooner than expected after he presumably looked better than expected in his workouts. Bell noted that Moustakas' biceps injury was still affecting his throwing, so he's expected to be limited to a DH or pinch-hitting role for the next several games before reclaiming his usual duties at third base. The lefty-hitting Moustakas should make regular starts against right-handed pitching, but he could frequently sit against southpaws.

  • Jose Ramirez 3B | CLE

Guardians' Jose Ramirez: Goes deep twice Wednesday

Ramirez went 2-for-4 with a pair of home runs and four total RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Angels.

Ramirez got Cleveland off on the right foot with a two-run homer in the first inning and produced another two-run shot in the eighth. The long balls were his fifth and sixth of the campaign and snapped a seven-game homer drought. Ramirez leads MLB with 25 RBI on the campaign and is slashing .353/.416/.735 across 77 plate appearances.
