Braves' Austin Riley: Finding footing at Double-A

Riley, 20, is batting .349 with two home runs and nine RBI over his last 10 games for Double-A Mississippi.

Riley got off to a slow start following his promotion, but is now slashing .270/.311/.396 with four home runs and 14 RBI in 28 games at Double-A. His patience at the dish remains questionable, though, as Riley has fanned 31 times while drawing just six walks over that span. While there are certainly worries about his ability to make consistent contact at the higher levels, Riley has shown some solid power thus far during his brief professional career.

  • Anthony Rendon 3B | LAA

Nationals' Anthony Rendon: Three hits in Tuesday's win

Rendon went 3-for-4 with a double and a run scored in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Angels.

His bat cooled off a little in late July, and Rendon had a .143/.256/.200 slash line over a 12-game stretch prior to this past weekend's series with the Giants, but he seems to be snapping out of it with six hits in his last four games. Don't be surprised if the 27-year-old catches fire again to close out the regular season.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Back hitting third Tuesday

Arenado (hand) is starting at third base and hitting third Tuesday against the Braves, Rox Pile of the FanSided Network reports.

While he sat out Monday with the hand injury, he made an appearance off the bench, so it is not surprising to see him back in the mix for the second game of this series against Atlanta. Arenado should be deployed in all formats, particularly against lefty Sean Newcomb in Coors Field.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Sits out Monday

Arenado (hand) is not in the lineup for Monday's game against the Braves, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

Arenado will get the day off as he continues to nurse a hand injury he sustained after getting hit by a pitch during Sunday's game against the Marlins. X-rays came back negative, so the injury isn't expected to keep him sidelined for too long, though the Rockies will ultimately play it safe with their star third baseman. Pat Valaika is starting at the hot corner in his place, while Ryan McMahon could also draw starts there for any time Arenado is forced to miss.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: X-rays come back negative

Arenado was diagnosed with a left hand contusion after X-rays came back negative, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

This is a huge relief for Arenado and the Rockies, as initial X-rays seem to indicate the star third baseman avoided a more serious injury after he was plunked by a Vance Worley fastball in Sunday's game. The Rockies haven't indicated how long he might be out with the ailment, but more should be known once he is reevaluated in the coming days. Ryan McMahon will likely start at third base for any time Arenado ends up missing.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Exits after HBP on hand

Arenado exited Sunday's game against the Marlins after being hit by a pitch on his left hand during the fifth inning, Jenny Cavnar of AT&T SportsNet Rocky Mountain reports.

Arenado was 0-for-2 at the plate before being plunked by a Vance Worley pitch on his left hand in the top of the fifth inning. The star third baseman had his hand/wrist area examined by trainers and was subsequently lifted from the game. The exact nature and severity of his injury should become more clear after Arenado undergoes further testing.

  • Kyle Farmer 3B | ATL

Dodgers' Kyle Farmer: Optioned to Triple-A

Farmer was optioned to Triple-A Oklahoma City on Sunday.

Farmer will be sent back to the minors in order to open up a roster spot for Chris Hatcher's activation from the disabled list. Farmer went 4-for-10 as a pinch hitter in his stint with the major-league club.

  • Carlos Asuaje 3B | LAD

Padres' Carlos Asuaje: Out of Sunday lineup

Asuaje is not in the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

After hitting .320 in June and .307 in July, Asuaje is hitting just .225 over his first 40 at-bats during the month of August. He'll cede the start at second base to Yangervis Solarte, who will bat cleanup against Kenta Maeda and the Dodgers.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Draws first MLB start

McMahon is starting at first base and batting seventh during Sunday's game against the Marlins, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

McMahon will draw his first major-league start as Mark Reynolds heads to the bench for a day of rest. Consistent playing time may be hard to come by for the impressive prospect, but if he's able to make the most of his early opportunities he could work himself into a more regular role with the big-league club moving forward. He'll get his first true test Sunday against Vance Worley and the Marlins.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Could see time at shortstop

Suarez could see time at shortstop over the final seven weeks of the season, C. Trent Rosecrans of the Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The Reds designated Arismendy Alcantara for assignment, so Suarez is now higher on the depth chart at shortstop. Zack Cozart is still expected to get occasional days off for the quad injury that has twice placed him on the disabled list, so on days when he is out and Jose Peraza is in, Suarez would essentially be the backup there, and he could even see a few starts there before the season is over.
