  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Rockies' Nolan Arenado: Leaves yard in second straight

Arenado went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run Monday in the Rockies' 16-9 loss to the Dodgers.

Arenado slugged one of two home runs off Dodgers standout Walker Buehler, who was charged with his most earned runs (six) since serving up seven at Coors Field back on June 27. With 36 home runs and 107 RBI on the campaign, Arenado has been up to his usual tricks in the heart of the order, but the Rockies' horrid pitching staff remains the main reason why the team is stuck in last place in the NL West.

  • Kevin Newman 3B | LAA

Pirates' Kevin Newman: Could return Tuesday

The Pirates are hopeful that Newman, who missed Sunday's game due to leg tightness, will be healthy enough to play Tuesday, 93.7 The Fan in Pittsburgh reports.

Speaking on Neal Huntington's radio show, assistant general manager Kyle Stark said he hoped that a couple days off would aid in Newman's recovery. "We're optimistic, he should be fine," Stark said. "He experienced some tightness in his leg. Coming out of Saturday's night game, it's an opportunity (to rest) with Monday's off day." Before leaving Saturday's game early as part of a double switch, Newman extended his hitting streak to eight games. He's slashed .514/.564/.886 with three homers and two steals during his latest hot streak.

  • Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL

Braves' Josh Donaldson: Slugs 34th homer

Donaldson went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, a walk and three runs in a 6-3 victory against the Blue Jays on Monday.

He's not the same contact hitter he was, but Donaldson's power has returned this year. He already has 34 homers, which is more than what he had in either of the last two years. Donaldson has hit at least eight home runs in each of the last three months, and if he does that again in September, he'll at least tie his career high in the category. Donaldson is batting .260 with 34 home runs, 79 RBI, 85 runs and three steals in 481 at-bats this season.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Could return next week

Manager Dave Roberts said Monday that Muncy (wrist) is a candidate to return next week, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Muncy has been sidelined since Aug. 28 with a small fracture in his right wrist, though he's hoping to resume swinging Monday. In the meantime, look for Gavin Lux to continue to fill in at the keystone while Muncy is sidelined.

  • J.D. Davis 1B | LAA

Mets' J.D. Davis: Three hits in win

Davis went 3-for-5 with a double, two runs scored and two RBI in Monday's 7-3 win over the Nationals.

After slashing .295/.361/.589 in August with eight homers and 18 RBI in 28 games, Davis got September off to a similarly impressive start. The 26-year-old has made himself a fixture in left field and in the heart of the Mets' batting order, and that seems unlikely to change over the final weeks of 2019.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Sitting out Monday

McMahon is not starting Monday against the Dodgers.

McMahon is 1-for-15 (.067) with eight strikeouts in his career against opposing starter Walker Buehler, so it's no surprise to see him on the bench Monday. Garrett Hampson is starting at second base and hitting sixth in place of McMahon, who is hitting .179 with a .640 OPS and 44.2 strikeout rate over his past 10 games.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

    Reds' Eugenio Suarez: X-rays negative

Suarez's X-rays on his hand were negative Monday, revealing nothing worse than a contusion.

Suarez was hit in the hand by a pitch Sunday and appeared initially worried that he could be forced to miss the rest of the season. Those worries were apparently unfounded, however, so he should be back in the lineup soon.

  • Eugenio Suarez DH | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Gets MRI on hand

Suarez, who is out of the lineup for Monday's series opener against the Phillies, said he underwent an MRI on his injured left hand earlier in the day, John Fay of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The results of Suarez's tests probably won't be known until later in the day, but the fact that he required an MRI hints that the third baseman could be dealing with more than a day-to-day concern. On a more positive note, Suarez indicated that his hand felt a lot better than it did Monday, specifically noting that he's regained full movement. Kyle Farmer picked up the start at the hot corner Monday and could end up serving as the primary option at the position if Suarez needs to be shut down.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Brewers' Mike Moustakas: Cleared to start Monday

Moustakas (wrist) will start at third base and bat cleanup Monday against the Astros.

After sitting out the Brewers' previous five games on account of the wrist issue, Moustakas gained clearance to re-enter the starting nine after completing a successful live batting practice session Sunday, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com. Moustakas may don protective padding on his sore left wrist in his return to the lineup, but the issue isn't expected to routinely cost him starts in the final month of the season.

  • Jean Segura 3B | CLE

Phillies' Jean Segura: Remains out Monday

Segura (personal) is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds.

Segura left the team prior to Sunday's 5-2 win over the Mets and didn't make the trip to Cincinnati with the big club after learning about the death of his grandmother. The shortstop reportedly flew to the Dominican Republic to be with his family, so it wouldn't be surprising if he missed most -- if not all -- of the four-game set with the Reds. Segura's absence will allow Brad Miller to pick up a second straight start at third base while Scott Kingery moves over to shortstop.
