  • Brian Anderson RF | ATL

Marlins' Brian Anderson: Could be back this weekend

Anderson (oblique) is expected to return to the lineup around when he is first eligible, Barry Jackson of The Miami Herald reports.

Saturday is the earliest possible date for Anderson's activation from the IL, but with the Marlins getting an off day Monday, a more cautious approach would see him back on the field Tuesday against the Diamondbacks. The 27-year-old has had a sluggish start at the plate, slashing .200/.262/.300 with one homer and five RBI through 17 games.

  • Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY

Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Cranks eighth homer

McMahon went 1-for-4 with a walk, a two-run home run and two runs scored Tuesday against the Giants.

McMahon delivered a game-winning home run in the 10th inning, his eighth long ball of the campaign. While his power production early on has stood out, McMahon has more quietly cut his strikeout rate from a career mark of 30.1 percent to 22.8 percent through 92 plate appearances this season.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Collects two doubles in win

Arenado went 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI in Tuesday's 5-2 win over the Phillies.

Arenado logged a double in each of his first two at-bats but caught a break in the first inning. Brad Miller misjudged a sliding catch in left field and the ball went off his glove and rolled all the way to the wall, giving him his lone RBI of the evening and tying the game up at 1-1. The two extra-base hits helped him snap a minor 0-for-10 drought and raised his slash line to .256/.309/.456 with four home runs, 13 RBI and 10 runs scored through his first 23 games as a Cardinal.

  • Nick Senzel 3B | LAD

Reds' Nick Senzel: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Senzel is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Dodgers.

Senzel went 0-for-6 with two walks and an RBI over the past two games. Tyler Naquin will start in center field and bat fifth for Cincinnati.

  • Eugenio Suarez 3B | CIN

Reds' Eugenio Suarez: Riding pine Tuesday

Suarez is not in Tuesday's lineup against the Dodgers.

He's in a brutal 2-for-40 slump with a 42.9 percent strikeout rate over that stretch. Kyle Farmer is starting at shortstop and batting eighth.

  • Mike Moustakas 3B | CHW

Reds' Mike Moustakas: Back in action Tuesday

Moustakas (illness) was activated from the injured list prior to Tuesday's game against the Dodgers.

This was the earliest Moustakas was eligible to come off the IL. He will start at third base and bat cleanup against righty Walker Buehler.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Should start swinging this week

Hayes (wrist) should start swinging again this week, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

He is feeling better after reaggravating his wrist injury last week, and the fact that he could resume swinging this week is very encouraging, as there was no clear report regarding the severity of his setback. It sounds like he could come off the injured list sometime in May.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Out of Tuesday's lineup

Longoria is not in the lineup Tuesday against the Rockies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The 35-year-old missed the previous three games with left hamstring tightness before rejoining the lineup Monday and going 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI and a run, but he'll return to the bench Tuesday. There's been no indication Longoria aggravated the injury, so the Giants may just be exercising caution after the veteran's return to action. Jason Vosler will start at the hot corner and bat eighth in his place for San Francisco.

  • Rodolfo Castro 2B | PHI

Pirates' Rodolfo Castro: Sent to minors

The Pirates optioned Castro to their alternate training site Tuesday.

The 21-year-old infielder appeared in one game during his first cup of coffee in the majors, going 0-for-3 in an April 21 loss to the Tigers. He'll likely report to Triple-A Indianapolis or Double-A Altoona when the minor-league season begins next week, and he'll likely remain on the farm for much of the 2021 campaign unless the Pirates' infield depth is tested.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Plates three in return to lineup

Longoria went 2-for-2 with a double, three RBI and a run scored in Monday's 12-0 blowout victory over the Rockies.

Longoria made his return to the lineup after missing the prior three games with a tight left hamstring, and he picked up right where he left off. The 35-year-old singled home a run before later scoring himself during a four-run first inning, then came back the following frame to plate two more on a double to deep left field. He was then replaced on base by Jason Vosler as a precautionary measure to get him some added rest. Longoria has been excellent so far with a slash line of .316/.409/.614 over 57 at-bats. He's on pace for the best statistical season of his career while ranking among the MLB leaders in barrel rate, exit velocity and a number of other Statcast categories. Of course, it's questionable whether he'll be able to keep it up, as Longoria has finished with an OPS around .700 in each of the last four seasons.
