  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Sitting again Sunday

Escobar (quadriceps) is not in the lineup Sunday against the Giants.

Escobar has been battling a quad issue for the past couple weeks and finds himself on the bench for the second consecutive contest. Asdrubal Cabrera will receive another start at the hot corner for Arizona.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: On base thrice in loss

Arenado went 1-for-2 with a double and two walks in a loss to the Rockies on Saturday.

The slugger continues to get on base at a torrid pace, as he now owns a .395 OBP across his last nine games. Arenado has a solid-but-unspectacular .267 average during that stretch, but he's also drawn seven walks in addition to lacing eight hits, six (four doubles, two home runs) of which have gone for extra bases.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Day off Sunday

Hayes is out of the lineup Sunday against the Brewers, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

Hayes is 1-for-22 with a double, a run and a steal in the past six games and will receive a day to reset Sunday. Wilmer Difo will work at the hot corner in his place.

  • Jace Peterson SS | ARI

Brewers' Jace Peterson: Heads to bench Sunday

Peterson is out of the lineup Sunday against the Pirates.

Peterson is 14-for-30 with a homer, five doubles, eight walks, 11 RBI, 10 runs and two stolen bases in his past 10 games, and he'll take a seat Sunday after making seven consecutive starts. Despite the day off, the 31-year-old should continue seeing regular playing time until Kolten Wong (calf) returns sometime after the All-Star break.

  • Padres' Manny Machado: Cracks 19th homer

Machado went 1-for-4 with a home run and two RBI on Saturday against the Phillies.

Machado belted his 19th homer in the first inning to stake the Padres to a 2-0 lead against Philadelphia starter Zach Eflin. Machado's bat had gone cold over the previous week, and his round tripper Saturday was his first extra-base knock in his last eight games. He's slashing .259/.335/.457 in 319 plate appearances on the season, a big drop across the board compared to the .304/.370/.580 line he put up during the shortened 2020 campaign.

  • Evan Longoria 3B | ARI

Giants' Evan Longoria: Could return shortly after break

Longoria (shoulder) could return from the injured list around the third week of July, Kerry Crowley of The San Jose Mercury News reports.

Longoria has been participating in baseball activities for just over a week, and he could return the Giants shortly after the All-Star break. The third baseman has been on the injured list since June 6, so he could require a rehab assignment before he's cleared to return.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Takes seat Saturday

Escobar isn't starting Saturday's game against the Giants.

Escobar suffered a right quadriceps strain nearly two weeks ago, and he's been seen hobbling around the bases recently, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. It's not clear whether Saturday's exclusion from the lineup is due to the quad issue or whether he could be available off the bench. Asdrubal Cabrera will take over at the hot corner and bat third.

  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: On base three times Friday

Muncy went 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBI in Friday's 10-5 victory versus the Nationals.

Muncy contributed an RBI single in the Dodgers' nine-run seventh inning. That was his only hit of the game, but the first baseman also reached base twice via walk. His 19.2 percent walk rate ranks second in the majors behind Joey Gallo, and Muncy trails only Vladimir Guerrero with a .420 OBP. Muncy has collected exactly one hit in each of his past six games, with four of those knocks leaving the park.

  • Ke'Bryan Hayes 3B | CIN

Pirates' Ke'Bryan Hayes: Cooling off at plate

Hayes went 0-for-4 with a strikeout in Friday's 7-2 loss to the Brewers.

Since failing to touch first base on an apparent home run June 8, Hayes is slashing .231/.315/.321 with one homer and 10 RBI in 89 plate appearances. He has just three hits in his last 23 at-bats. On the plus side, he'll face lefty Eric Lauer on Saturday and Hayes is hitting .400 in 50 career at-bats against southpaws.

  • Diamondbacks' Eduardo Escobar: Guarding quad

Escobar has been seen hobbling around the bases in recent games, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. He recently missed three games due to a quadriceps injury and may not be fully healthy.

Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said the team's medical staff does not believe Escobar is at risk of doing further damage to the quad. "He's protecting it, we know that," Lovullo said. "We've talked to him about getting that stride length and picking up that leg the way he normally would. I think it's just the natural progression of trust in that leg that there won't be a breakdown." Escobar, who has started seven of the last eight games, went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Friday's 11-4 loss to the Giants.
