Newman (groin) was activated from the 60-day injured list Friday, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

The 28-year-old began the season as Pittsburgh's starting shortstop but has been sidelined since late April with a strained groin, and prospect Oneil Cruz was promoted and claimed the starting role in his absence. Newman is expected to fill a utility role now that he's healthy and should see most of his playing time at second base and shortstop. He hit .250/.308/.375 with eight RBI, four runs and a stolen base in 14 games prior to the injury.

Kennedy isn't in the lineup Friday against the Rockies.

Kennedy recorded hits in four of the last five games and went 6-for-18 with a double, three RBI and three runs during that time. Sergio Alcantara will take over at the keystone and bat eighth Friday.

Machado went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Thursday's 2-1 extra-inning victory versus San Francisco.

Machado crushed a 421-foot solo shot off Logan Webb in the fourth inning. That stood as the Padres' lone run until Jorge Alfaro produced a walk-off double in the 10th. The long ball was Machado's first since he returned from a nine-game absence due to an ankle injury. In seven contests since his return, the veteran third baseman is batting .174 and has struck out 11 times in 23 at-bats.

Anderson is out of the lineup for Friday's game aaginst the Mets, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Anderson started the past four games and will head to the bench after going 3-for-15 with a walk and five strikeouts. Joey Wendle will man the hot corner while Jon Berti starts at second base.

Moustakas is out of the lineup for Friday's game versus the Rays.

Moustakas went 2-for-7 with two doubles and a walk during Thursday's twin bill, but he'll take a seat Friday with southpaw Shane McClanahan pitching for Tampa Bay. Donovan Solano will bat fifth as the designated hitter.

Davis went 3-for-4 with a double and a grand slam Thursday against the Marlins.

Davis was in the lineup with a southpaw on the mound, as has been customary this season. He delivered his third home run of the season in the fifth inning to give the Mets a 10-run advantage. Davis has been limited primarily to a short-side platoon role this season, though he has delivered a .253/.337/.373 line across 181 plate appearances for the campaign.

Hayes isn't starting the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Reds.

Hayes is getting a breather after he went 1-for-5 with a run and two strikeouts in Thursday's matinee. Diego Castillo is starting at third base and batting seventh.

Bernabel was promoted to High-A Spokane on Sunday and has gone 2-for-8 with two doubles and an RBI in his first two games there.

This comes on the heels of a terrific .317/.390/.504 batting line with 10 homers, 21 steals and a 29:39 BB:K across 67 games in Single-A. Bernabel was a standout in rookie ball last year, and the 20-year-old has built on that in a big way this season. There's no guarantee that his stolen-base ability will hold up as he progresses through the minors, as scouts have generally considered Bernabel just an average runner, but there's enough pop in his bat to make him an intriguing prospect nonetheless, particularly with the potential of the Coors Field effect.

Maton (shoulder) will begin a rehab assignment at Single-A Clearwater on Thursday.

Maton, who has been on the 10-day injured list since June 5 with a sprained right shoulder, will likely stick with Clearwater through the weekend before potentially moving his rehab assignment to Triple-A Lehigh Valley or Double-A Reading next week. The 25-year-old could be ready to return from the IL before the All-Star break, though he'll likely see limited action as a utility player once he rejoins the Phillies.

Reynolds is out of the lineup for the first game of Thursday's doubleheader with the Pirates.

Reynolds went 3-for-11 with a double, two walks, three runs and an RBI while starting each of the past four games in the middle infield while both Kyle Farmer and Jonathan India have battled minor injuries. Farmer and India are back in the lineup Thursday at shortstop and second base, respectively, so Reynolds' brief re-emergence as an everyday player looks set to come to an end.
