Evan Longoria 3B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Evan Longoria: Activated from injured list
Longoria (back) was activated from the injured list Monday.
Longoria began a rehab assignment last Thursday, and the Diamondbacks decided he was ready to rejoin the big club after appearing in three games over the last four days. Based on his usage earlier in the season it's unlikely he will play every day, but with an .803 OPS and all kinds of Diamondbacks manning the hot corner in during his absence, Longoria should jump right back into the mix.

J.D. Davis 1B | LAA
Giants' J.D. Davis: Sitting out Monday
Davis is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Phillies, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
Davis will get a breather after he started in each of the last four games while going 5-for-14 with a double, an RBI and a run. With Davis on the bench, Wilmer Flores will pick up a start at third base in his stead and bat third in the series opener.

Austin Riley 3B | ATL
Braves' Austin Riley: Rare steal Sunday
Riley went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Sunday's loss to the Giants.
After rapping a two-out single in the first inning, Riley got himself into scoring position with his third steal of the season -- a new career high -- and first since late June. The third baseman is slashing .304/.360/.557 through 19 games in August with five home runs, 13 RBI and 14 runs, and he sits one long ball short of his third straight 30-homer campaign.

Carter Kieboom 3B | CLE
Nationals' Carter Kieboom: Called up as 27th man
Kieboom was recalled from Triple-A Rochester to serve as the 27th man for Sunday's Little League Classic against the Phillies, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.
Kieboom returned from the injured list at Rochester in early August after missing nearly two months with an oblique injury, and he'll now have the chance to make his first MLB appearance since 2021. Since the 25-year-old is up with the Nationals as an extra player Sunday, he could be sent back down immediately following the contest.

Manny Machado 3B | SD
Padres' Manny Machado: Goes yard twice in matinee
Machado went 2-for-4 with two solo home runs in a 6-4 loss to the Diamondbacks during the first game of Saturday's doubleheader.
Getting the start at DH due to accumulated bumps and bruises, including a bout of elbow soreness, Machado's swing seemed to be in peak form as he took Merrill Kelly deep to left field in the first inning before slicing a Kevin Ginkel fastball over the right-field wall in the eighth. Machado was back at third base for the nightcap, and while he went 0-for-4, the fact that he was feeling well enough to play defense is a strong sign his health issues are minor.

Nolan Arenado 3B | ARI
Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Swats 26th homer
Arenado went 1-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's 13-2 loss to the Mets.
Arenado is batting .303 (20-for-66) with four homers in August, but he has just eight RBI over 16 contests this month. The third baseman's warm stretch has lifted his slash line to .283/.329/.509 for the season, and he's added 26 homers, 85 RBI, 58 runs scored and two stolen bases through 118 games overall. He's still got enough season left to get to his usual milestones of 30 homers and 100 RBI.

Jake Burger 1B | TEX
Marlins' Jake Burger: Four hits across twin bill
Burger went 4-for-7 with a run scored across both games of Saturday's doubleheader versus the Dodgers.
Burger was solid at the plate, collecting four of the Marlins' 13 hits between the two games. The third baseman extended his hitting streak to 11 games, a span in which he's gone 19-for-43 (.442) with six extra-base hits and nine RBI. He's at a .240/.305/.528 slash line with 27 home runs, 63 RBI, 52 runs scored and a stolen base through 105 contests between the Marlins and the White Sox this year. He's maintained steady playing time since he joined Miami.

Jace Peterson SS | ARI
Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: Breather in Game 2
Peterson will sit Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader with San Diego.
Peterson will take a seat after he went 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout in the Diamondbacks' 6-4 win in Game 1. Geraldo Perdomo will slide over to third base while Nick Ahmed enters the lineup at shortstop and bats eighth in the nightcap versus the Padres.
-
Max Muncy 3B | LAD
Dodgers' Max Muncy: Sitting for nightcap
Muncy isn't in the Dodgers' lineup for Game 2 of the Saturday's doubleheader with Miami, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.
Muncy went 0-for-3 with two strikeouts and a walk during Game 1, and he'll get a breather to cap off Saturday's activities. Enrique Hernandez will draw the start at the hot corner and bat eighth.

Kevin Newman 3B | LAA
Reds' Kevin Newman: Placed on injured list
The Reds placed Newman on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left oblique strain, retroactive to Aug. 16.
Newman was previously on the injured list with an illness in late July, and now an oblique injury will force him out for at least another week. Top prospect Noelvi Marte was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move.
