  • Orlando Arcia 3B | COL

Rockies' Orlando Arcia: Placed on injured list

The Rockies placed Arcia on the 10-day injured list Friday with right elbow inflammation.

Arcia hasn't played since leaving Tuesday's game early with an elbow injury, and he'll officially miss at least another week now that he's on the IL. Kyle Karros and Aaron Schunk were both called up from Triple-A Albuquerque to replenish the Rockies' infield depth, though it's unclear which player will receive the lion's share of the playing time at third base.

  • Kyle Karros 3B | COL

Rockies' Kyle Karros: Selected from ABQ

The Rockies selected Karros' contract from Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

One of the top prospects in Colorado's farm system, Karros has slashed .306/.368/.500 with two homers, four RBI and nine runs scored through 68 plate appearances since being promoted to Triple-A in mid-July. The 23-year-old infielder will now join the major-league roster alongside Aaron Schunk to help make up for the loss of Orlando Arcia (elbow), and Karros will get the nod to make his MLB debut Friday while starting at third base.

  • Matt Shaw SS | CHC

Cubs' Matt Shaw: Sitting out Friday

Shaw is not in the starting lineup for Friday's game against the Cardinals.

Shaw was swinging a hot bat for a stretch in late July, but he's gone just 3-for-15 to begin August, bringing his season average down to .222 across 287 plate appearances. The 23-year-old will sit for the second time in five games as Willi Castro takes over at third base and bats seventh against right-hander Michael McGreevy.

  • Braves' Nacho Alvarez: Included in Friday's lineup

Alvarez (side) will start at third base and bat eighth Friday against the Marlins.

Alvarez has evidently turned the page on the side soreness that cropped up during Wednesday's contest. Since replacing Austin Riley (abdomen) on Atlanta's active roster, Alvarez has gone 3-for-10 with a pair of doubles and five strikeouts.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Not starting Friday

Marte isn't in the starting lineup for Friday's contest against Pittsburgh.

Marte has become a regular presence in right field for the Reds of late, starting seven of the team's past eight games at that position. However, he'll give way in right field Friday to Jake Fraley.

  • Vidal Brujan 2B | ATL

Braves' Vidal Brujan: Lands with Atlanta

Atlanta claimed Brujan off outright waivers Friday.

Brujan began the season with the Cubs before being DFA'd in late July. The Orioles claimed him off waivers Aug. 3, but he played in only one game with the club, notching a hit in his only at-bat. Brujan will now likely fill a utility role for an Atlanta roster that could use help at third base while Austin Riley (abdomen) is unavailable. Brujan's logged time at every position on the field except for pitcher, catcher and first base this season.

  • Graham Pauley 3B | MIA

Marlins' Graham Pauley: Goes yard again Thursday

Pauley went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run in Thursday's loss to Atlanta.

The third baseman capped a five-run second inning when he ripped a Carlos Carrasco sinker down the right-field line. Pauley is batting .292 (7-for-24) over his last 10 games, a stretch that includes all three of his homers in the majors this season.

  • Braves' Nacho Alvarez: Battling side soreness

Manager Brian Snitker said Thursday that Alvarez is dealing with side soreness caused by a slide he made during Wednesday's loss to Milwaukee, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Alvarez's injury will cause him to miss out on the starting nine for Thursday's series opener against the Marlins, though there's a chance he may be available off the bench. Jonathan Ornelas will man the hot corner and bat eighth while Alvarez recovers.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Taking over right-field job

Marte is starting in right field and batting seventh in Thursday's game versus the Pirates.

Instead of benching Marte after trading for Ke'Bryan Hayes, the Reds have made Marte their full-time right fielder, starting him at the position six times across their last seven tilts. Marte is slashing only .216/.216/.324 over his last 10 games and will likely need to pick it back up offensively if he wants to continue playing every day, but Cincinnati appears prepared to do what it can to keep the 23-year-old's bat in the lineup.

  • Nolan Arenado 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Arenado: Could return from IL on Aug. 18

Arenado (shoulder) is tentatively slated to rejoin the Cardinals on Aug. 18 before their series against the Marlins, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Arenado is headed to the team's spring training complex in Jupiter, Florida on Friday to strengthen his injured right shoulder before eventually participating in rehab games with the club's rookie-level Florida Complex League squad. If all goes well on that front, he will then make the short drive from Jupiter to Miami to rejoin the Cardinals for the start of a road trip. Arenado has slashed just .167/.219/.200 over his last 17 games since suffering finger and shoulder injuries.
