Carter Kieboom 3B | CLE
Nationals' Carter Kieboom: Begins rehab assignment
Kieboom (oblique) is set to begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with High-A Wilmington, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Kieboom has been on the minor-league injured list since June 20 because of an oblique strain, but he's rounding back into good health and could potentially get a look in Washington down the stretch. The 25-year-old former top prospect hasn't appeared in a major-league game since 2021, battling various injuries along the way, but with Jeimer Candelario traded to the Cubs, Kieboom could get a look at third base for the Nationals down the stretch if he can stay healthy.

Emmanuel Rivera 3B | BAL
Diamondbacks' Emmanuel Rivera: Knocks in run
Rivera started at third base and went 1-for-3 with a walk and a run scored in Monday's 4-3 extra-innings win over San Francisco.
Rivera's 10th-inning single gave the Diamondbacks a brief lead before the Giants scored in the bottom of the frame. It was his sixth straight game with hit; he's 8-for-20 during the streak. A series of moves over the last few days impacts third base going forward. After placing Evan Longoria (back) on the injured list Saturday, Arizona traded infielder Josh Rojas to Seattle then acquired infielder Jace Peterson from Athletics. Peterson is essentially a Rojas replacement -- a left-handed bat that plays second and third base -- and could emerge as a platoon mate of Rivera.

Ryan McMahon 3B | NYY
Rockies' Ryan McMahon: Goes yard Monday
McMahon went 2-for-4 with a solo home run, a double and a sacrifice fly in Monday's 4-3 extra-inning win over the Padres.
McMahon ended July well, logging multiple hits in four of his last six games this month. He's knocked a double in three straight contests. The third baseman is up to a .260/.339/.472 slash line with 17 homers, 52 RBI, 55 runs scored and five stolen bases through 102 games overall.

Jace Peterson SS | ARI
Diamondbacks' Jace Peterson: Sent to Snakes
The Athletics traded Peterson and cash to the Diamondbacks on Monday in exchange for Chad Patrick.
Through 324 plate appearances this season, Peterson holds a .637 OPS -- his lowest mark since 2019 (.599). However, the 33-year-old utilityman is slashing .313/.410/.438 since the All-Star break and will now provide Arizona with a hot bat off the bench that is capable of fielding nearly every defensive position. Peterson likely won't see consistent starts with his new team, but his versatility should be enough to get him into the lineup every once in a while.

Jeimer Candelario 3B | LAA
Cubs' Jeimer Candelario: Traded to Cubs
Candelario was traded from the Nationals to the Cubs on Monday in exchange for DJ Herz and Kevin Made, Jon Morosi of MLB Network reports.
Candelario has deep ties with the Cubs organization, as he first signed with them as a 16-year-old in 2010 and made his big-league debut with Chicago in 2016 before getting traded to the Tigers and then the Nationals. The switch-hitting third baseman has been very productive this season, slashing .258/.342/.481 with 16 home runs, 57 runs, 53 RBI and six steals in 99 games while playing every day and hitting in the middle of the lineup. He should be able to play almost every day with the Cubs, but he could get more rest days now that he is a part of a deeper active roster.

Jeimer Candelario 3B | LAA
Nationals' Jeimer Candelario: Held out Monday amid trade talks
Candelario is not in Monday's lineup against the Brewers, Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com reports.
Candelario almost never rests when healthy, but in this case he is being held out while the Nationals discuss trade packages with other teams ahead of Tuesday's trade deadline. He is hitting .250 with a .349 OBP, nine home runs and five steals in 48 games since June 1. If Candelario gets traded, it would be to a better lineup, but he may see a home park downgrade and could hit lower in the order and play less often for a contending team.

Austin Riley 3B | ATL
Braves' Austin Riley: Homers again Sunday
Riley went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer and an additional run scored in Sunday's victory over Milwaukee.
Riley put Atlanta ahead 2-1 in the bottom of the first with a 463-foot bomb off of Colin Rea, his 24th homer of the season and eighth in his last 11 games. Over his 11-game power surge, Riley's gone 17-for-44 (.386) with 19 RBI and a 1.436 OPS. He's now slashing .275/.335/.500 with 75 runs scored, 64 RBI and a pair of stolen bases across 454 plate appearances this season.

Brian Anderson RF | ATL
Brewers' Brian Anderson: Cleared for rehab assignment
Anderson (back) will begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A Nashville this week, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
Anderson landed on the 10-day injured list July 16 due to a back strain and will likely need a few games in the minors to regain his timing at the plate before the Brewers are comfortable activating him. Once he's reinstated from IL, Anderson could settle into an everyday role at either third base or designated hitter. Andruw Monasterio has performed capably at the hot corner in Anderson's stead, but the Brewers could make room for both players in the regular lineup by installing Monasterio at second base as a replacement for Brice Turang, who has largely underwhelmed with the bat since being called up from Triple-A in late June.

Abraham Toro 1B | BOS
Brewers' Abraham Toro: Gaining playing time
Toro will serve as the Brewers' designated hitter and No. 7 batter in Sunday's game against Atlanta.
Toro has gone 4-for-7 with a home run and four RBI in his two games since being called up from Triple-A Nashville on Wednesday, and he could end up getting a look in a near-everyday role so long as he continues to wield a hot bat. Even after acquiring Carlos Santana from the Pirates on Thursday, the Brewers still have an opening in the regular lineup, so expect manager Craig Counsell to continue to take a hot-hand approach to that spot.
