  • Max Muncy 3B | LAD

Dodgers' Max Muncy: Not in Wednesday's lineup

Muncy is absent from the lineup for Wednesday's contest versus the Cubs, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

The left-handed-hitting Muncy will take a seat as the Cubs send southpaw Matthew Boyd to the bump. Miguel Rojas will handle third base and bat eighth for the Dodgers.

  • Amed Rosario SS | NYY

Nationals' Amed Rosario: Remains in backup role

Rosario is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

Even though CJ Abrams (hip) and Paul DeJong (nose) are both still on the injured list, Rosario has seen his playing time trend down lately. After making consecutive starts at third base April 12 and 13, Rosario has cracked the lineup just three times in the Nationals' ensuing nine games. Jose Tena has emerged as Washington's preferred option at third base, while Nasim Nunez is serving as Abrams' primary replacement at shortstop.

  • Gage Workman 3B | DET

Cubs' Gage Workman: Loses 40-man roster spot

The Cubs designated Workman for assignment Wednesday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Workman had some defensive lapses and went just 3-for-14 at the plate in nine games for the Cubs this season. The Rule 5 pick will be available via trade or a waiver claim, but if no other teams are willing to dedicate an active roster spot to him, he must be offered back to the Tigers for $50,000.

  • Nicky Lopez 3B | COL

Cubs' Nicky Lopez: Returns to Chicago on MLB deal

The Cubs signed Lopez to a one-year contract Wednesday, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Lopez was with the Cubs during spring training before opting out of his minor-league contract and eventually signing with the Angels. He's now back in Chicago and will initially fill a utility role in the infield, though he could get a decent amount of playing time at third base if the Cubs aren't satisfied with Jon Berti as their primary option at the position.

  • Jose Tena 3B | WAS

Nationals' Jose Tena: Three XBH in Tuesday's win

Tena went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a triple and a run scored in Tuesday's 7-0 win over the Orioles.

The Nats scalded the ball all night, with 10 of their 14 hits going for extra bases in a 7-0 rout, and Tena led the way with three of them. The 24-year-old has started three of the last four games, and with Washington looking to get some production from the hot corner, manager Dave Martinez suggested after Tuesday's contest that Tena could move into a strong-side platoon role at third base while Paul DeJong (nose) remains on the shelf, per Mark Zuckerman of MASNSports.com.

  • Connor Norby 2B | MIA

Marlins' Connor Norby: Absent from lineup

Norby is not in the lineup for Wednesday's contest against the Reds.

It's a routine day off for Norby, who has now started five of seven contests since being activated from the 10-day injured list. Graham Pauley will be at third base and bat ninth for the Marlins.

  • Braves' Nacho Alvarez: Shifts to 60-day IL

Atlanta transferred Alvarez (wrist) from the 10-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Wednesday.

Alvarez's IL stint is retroactive to March 24, so he won't be eligible to make his 2025 debut with Atlanta until at least May 23. Since the 22-year-old infielder was diagnosed with left wrist inflammation during spring training, Atlanta has provided scarce updates on where he stands in his recovery. Alvarez is currently conducting his rehab at Atlanta's spring facility in Florida, but it's unclear how close he might be to playing in simulated games and eventually heading out on a minor-league rehab assignment.

  • Noelvi Marte 3B | CIN

Reds' Noelvi Marte: Slugs another home run

Marte went 1-for-3 with a walk and a solo home run in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Marlins.

Marte put a charge into the ball, which left his bat at 116.7 miles per hour and landed 431 feet away. He made a third consecutive start at third base, homered for the second time in those three starts and has eight hits (five for extra bases) over his last 14 at-bats. Thus far, Marte has shown much better version of the player that missed 80 games due to a suspension and batted just .210 over 66 games in 2024. He began the season in the minors but is angling for a permanent role in the majors in the wake of his latest performance. Even with Christian Encarnacion-Strand (back) stuck on the injured list, the Reds seem to be prioritizing Marte at third base ahead of Jeimer Candelario, who is handling more of a part-time role while Spencer Steer serves as Encarnacion-Strand's primary replacement at first base.

  • Mark Vientos DH | NYM

Mets' Mark Vientos: Good to go Tuesday

Vientos (groin) is starting at third base and batting cleanup Tuesday against the Phillies.

Vientos sat out the past two contests after exiting Saturday's game due to groin discomfort, but he's ready to rejoin the starting nine for Tuesday's matchup with Philadelphia. The 25-year-old went 0-for-2 during Saturday's contest, which broke a modest six-game hit streak during which he had an .945 OPS.

  • Caleb Durbin 3B | BOS

Brewers' Caleb Durbin: Notches first big-league homer

Durbin went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in a loss to the Giants on Monday.

Durbin accounted for both of Milwaukee's runs in the contest with his two-run shot to left-center in the second inning. The rookie third baseman showed the ability to hit for a bit of power with 10 homers in 82 games in Triple-A last season, though speed is likely to be his calling card in the majors. Durbin has one theft to his name as a big-leaguer so far and has gone 3-for-15 through four contests.
