    Pedro Alvarez lifts off in win over Dodgers

    Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez made his presence felt at the plate Sunday night, driving in three runs in his team's 5-3 win over the Dodgers in Los Angeles. 

    Alvarez singled in two runs in the opening frame and singled in another run in the sixth inning. He finished 2 for 3 with three RBI. He is hitting .223 with 10 homers and 31 RBI in 202 at-bats.

    Anthony Rendon keys defeat of Rangers with four hits

    The only negative for Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon on Saturday was that his consecutive hit streak ended at six when he struck out in the eighth. Other than that, he was sensational.

    Rendon slammed a solo homer in the first, singled and scored in the second, singled in the fourth and singled and scored in the sixth as his team blasted Texas. Rendon, who hadn't homered since May 5, has nine hits in his last six games.

    Nolan Arenado won't require surgery

    Rockies infielder Nolan Arenado will not require surgery to repair a mallet fracture in his left middle finger, the Denver Post reports Friday.

    Arenado saw a specialist in Cleveland Friday to determine the best course of action, and it will be allowed to heal naturally. At this point, however, it is not clear what that might mean for his potential timeline to return. He is still expected to miss much of June while recovering.

    Pedro Alvarez hits homer No. 10

    Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez got the Pirates on the board early Thursday, in a 6-3 win over the Dodgers.

    Alvarez had just one hit in the game, a solo home run in the second inning to tie the game, 1-1. He went 1 for 4 overall, with one strikeout in the win.

    Alvarez is hitting .221 with 10 home runs on the season, but has been better since he was moved out of the cleanup spot of the order last week. In his last seven games, Alvarez is hitting .280 with two home runs and three RBI.

    DJ LeMahieu hits first home run in loss Wednesday

    Rockies infielder DJ LeMahieu went 1 for 5 with his first home run of the season in his team's 6-3 loss to the Phillies Wednesday.

    LeMahieu wasj ust 1 for 17 in his last six games going into Wednesday's contest, and even with the home run he's 3 for 29 over his last nine. The homer was his first since August 12 of last season. LeMahieu has hit .269/.326/.331 with 13 RBI in 160 at-bats.

    The Rockies are acknowledging third baseman Nolan Arenado might be sidelined until late June or early July because of a broken finger, per FOX Sports.

    Phillies place Cody Asche on 15-day disabled list

    The Phillies placed third baseman Cody Asche on the 15-day disabled list Sunday with a hamstring strain, the team announced. The move is retroactive to May 23.

    Asche tested his hamstring with light jogging Sunday, and the team obviously didn't like the results after he showed no improvement. Asche has hit .258/.346/.425 with four home runs and 18 RBI in 120 at-bats.

    Cody Asche a candidate for trip to disabled list

    Phillies third baseman Cody Asche is not in the lineup Sunday for the third straight day, and the team will discuss whether he needs a trip to the disabled list, MLB.com reports.

    "We have to talk about it," manager Ryne Sandberg said Sunday. "That’s three days. That’ll be a discussion. We do have six bench guys. As we go forward, we’ll probably add an arm out there (in the bullpen). We need to discuss that."

    Asche tested the injured hamstring with light jogging Sunday morning but didn't feel any improvement. He said Saturday that he had played through the discomfort for six or seven games with the athletic staff treating the injury, but he did not like the way things were headed, so he and the team are hoping rest will cure the issue.
