Mariners' Jean Segura: In lineup for series opener
Segura (shin) is starting at shortstop and hitting third Thursday against the A's, Shannon Drayer of 710 ESPN Seattle reports.
Segura won't be forced to miss any additional action after exiting Wednesday's game with a bruised shin. The 28-year-old shortstop, who is slashing a solid .317/.348/.439 with nine homers and 20 stolen bases this season, will face right-hander Frankie Montas in Thursday's series opener.

Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL
Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson: Plans to play Thursday
Donaldson (calf) plans to play in Game 1 of High-A Dunedin's doubleheader Thursday, Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic reports.
Donaldson was expected to get Wednesday night off due to soreness in his calves and legs before the contest was rained out and rescheduled for Thursday. He's set to test his calf out in the first game of Thursday's twin bill, and how he fares could ultimately determine whether the Blue Jays deal him before the Aug. 31 waiver deadline.

Matt Chapman 3B | SF
Athletics' Matt Chapman: Scores twice in loss
Chapman went 2-for-4 with two runs and a walk in a loss to the Astros on Wednesday.
After a rare 0-for-5 performance Tuesday, Chapman's bat heated right back up in Wednesday's loss, as he churned out his fourth multi-hit effort of the last five games. The 25-year-old's excellent .374 on-base percentage in August has helped lead to him scoring 21 runs, and he's been responsible for another 17 through his own offensive exploits.

Rafael Devers 1B | SF
Red Sox's Rafael Devers: Makes first rehab appearance
Devers (hamstring) went 1-for-3 with a double and played five innings at third base for Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday.
Devers played his first rehab game since the Red Sox placed him on the disabled list Aug. 17 with a strained left hamstring. This is Devers' second DL stint due to a hamstring injury, so expect the Red Sox to make sure he's rehabbed fully. The 21-year-old third baseman could return to Boston's active roster this weekend.

Willians Astudillo 3B | MIA
Twins' Willians Astudillo: Smacks first big-league homer
Astudillo got the start at catcher and hit ninth Wednesday, going 1-for-4 with a solo home run in a 4-3 win over the Cleveland.
His third-inning shot off Adam Plutko got the Twins on the board, and gave Astudillo his first career big-league homer. The 26-year-old is still only slashing .269/.296/.462 through his first 11 games in the Show, but Minnesota has little to lose by giving him regular playing time in September to see if he can factor into the organization's plans for 2019 and beyond.

Alex Bregman 3B | CHC
Astros' Alex Bregman: Hit streak reaches 10 games
Bregman went 2-for-3 with a double, two walks, an RBI and a run scored in Wednesday's win over the Athletics.
Bregman had multiple hits for the third straight game and has hit safely in 10 straight, batting .475 (19-for-40) with a .543 OBP during the streak. He's reached base safely in all but one game during the month of August.

Jean Segura 3B | CLE
Mariners' Jean Segura: X-rays come back clean
X-rays on Segura's shin came back negative, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Segura exited Wednesday's game after fouling a ball off his shin in the sixth inning. Fortunately, it sounds like the shortstop is simply dealing with a bruise, leaving him day-to-day ahead of Thursday's series opener against the A's. He was 2-for-3 with a stolen base -- his 20th of the season -- and a run scored before exiting.

Mariners' Jean Segura: Exits Wednesday's game
Segura left Wednesday's game after fouling a ball off his foot, Ryan Divish of The Seattle Times reports.
Segura was able to finish his at-bat -- he flew out to right field -- before being replaced by Andrew Romine in the field prior to the bottom of the sixth inning. He is expected to undergo post-game tests on the foot.

Josh Donaldson 3B | MIL
Blue Jays' Josh Donaldson: Not in lineup due to soreness
Donaldson is not in Wednesday's lineup for High-A Dunedin due to soreness in his calves and legs, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.
Donaldson kicked off his rehab assignment Tuesday, going 1-for-2 with an RBI and a walk while manning third base. Whether he returns to action for Dunedin on Thursday could determine if he's traded before the Aug. 31 waiver deadline.

Jean Segura 3B | CLE
Mariners' Jean Segura: Triples in low-scoring loss
Segura went 2-for-4 with a triple in a loss to the Padres on Tuesday.
Segura has now churned out multiple hits in seven of his last 10 games, the latest taste of offensive success in another stellar season at the plate. The shortstop looks like a near certainty to finish with a .300 or better average for the third straight season, and he's now just seven RBI away from eclipsing the career-high 64 he compiled in 2016 with the Diamondbacks.
