Rays' Matt Duffy: Full game at third base

Duffy (hamstring) played all nine innings at third base for Triple-A Durham against Toledo on Monday and went 0-for-3 while also getting hit by a pitch.

Duffy has now played back-to-back full games in the field for the Bulls. The veteran infielder is up to 24 at-bats overall in the current phase of his rehab, just one short of the front end of the range the Rays had emphasized they'd like to see him hit before considering activation.

  • Josh Jung 3B | TEX

Rangers' Josh Jung: Jumps to Low-A

Jung was promoted to Low-A Hickory on Monday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

The eighth-overall pick in the 2019 draft, Jung played in just four games at the rookie-league level, going 10-for-17 at the plate. He'll jump over short-season Spokane and head straight to full-season ball.

Rays' Matt Duffy: Close to rehab assignment benchmark

Duffy (hamstring), who received a day off in his rehab assignment with Triple-A Durham on Sunday and continues to remain free of setbacks, is just a handful of at-bats away from the 25-30 the Rays want to see him log before activation, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The veteran infielder likely has everyone in the organization crossing their fingers at this point, as it seems he's tantalizingly close to making his 2019 big-league debut. Duffy encouragingly played a full game at third base for the Bulls on Saturday, and with 21 at-bats since his rehab resumed July 4, he's as little as one game away from hitting the front end of the team's desired benchmark. Duffy is slated to play in Monday's game at minimum with Durham, but he could well be up with the major-league club by the end of the week.

  • Gio Urshela 3B | MIN

Yankees' Gio Urshela: Knocks in two

Urshela went 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored in Sunday's win over the Blue Jays.

Urshela kicked off the scoring in this one with a single to left field, knocking in a pair of runs. The 27-year-old continues to see the ball well at the dish, and he's now slashing .302/.352/.461 with seven homers and 41 RBI over 74 contests.

  • Tigers' Jeimer Candelario: Drives in three Sunday

Candelario went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored and three RBI in Sunday's 12-8 win over the Royals.

Candelario's big hit was a bases clearing double in the third inning that turned a 3-2 deficit into a 5-3 lead for the Tigers. The 25-year-old has looked like a different player since returning to the majors from Triple-A on June 26. In 14 games since being recalled, Candelario is batting .327 with four home runs and 11 RBI

  • Matt Chapman 3B | SF

Athletics' Matt Chapman: Multi-hit effort in big win

Chapman went 3-for-4 with an RBI double, another two-bagger and two runs in a win over the White Sox on Saturday.

Chapman played a prominent role in the Athletics' 13-hit outburst, continuing his hot post-All-Star-break start. The third baseman had also gone 2-for-4 during a win in Friday's series opener, and he's now hitting .321 (9-for-28) overall in his first seven games of July.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Slugs 24th homer

Bregman went 2-for-5 with a walk and a solo home run in Saturday's 7-6 extra-innings win over the Rangers.

The 25-year-old infielder seemed fine despite the stitches on his chin from a wayward grounder that kept him out of Friday's contest. Bregman is now slashing .269/.398/.542 through 90 games with 24 homers and 57 RBI.

  • Matt Duffy 3B | TEX

Rays' Matt Duffy: Three more RBI in latest rehab game

Duffy (hamstring) played a full game at third base and went 1-for-5 with a double, three RBI, and two runs in Triple-A Durham's win over Norfolk on Saturday.

Duffy has now accomplished the rather unlikely feat of knocking in six runs with just one extra-base hit (Saturday's double) over the last two rehab games. The veteran infielder is reportedly closer than ever to finally seeing big-league action in 2019, and his ability to play all nine innings in the field Saturday may have sealed the deal in terms of his forthcoming activation.

  • Alex Bregman 3B | CHC

Astros' Alex Bregman: Returns to lineup

Bregman (head) is back in the lineup for Saturday's game against Texas, Hunter Atkins of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Bregman required four stitches in his chin after getting hit by a groundball Thursday and did not participate in Friday's contest, but he's ready to go Saturday. He'll play shortstop and bat third against the Rangers.

    Rays' Matt Duffy: Progressing well

Duffy (hamstring) could be activated off the 60-day injured list sometime next week, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Duffy, who has been on the shelf all year while nursing a persistent hamstring injury, is progressing very well in his final step before coming off the IL. In his five games since beginning his most recent rehab assignment, Duffy is slashing .188/.188/.250. The 28-year-old has been suffering from this hamstring injury since late February, so it is not unexpected that he's showing some early rust in his first few games back.
