    Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Picks up steal in loss

    Marte went 1-for-3 with a walk and a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Astros.

    Two of Marte's eight steals this season have come in September. He's hitting .313 (26-for-83) this month, an improvement on his .278 mark for the season. The second baseman has added an .849 OPS, 25 home runs, 82 RBI, 94 runs scored, 26 doubles and nine triples through 149 contests.

    Astros' Jose Altuve: Registers 14th steal

    Altuve went 1-for-4 with a stolen base in Friday's 2-1 win over the Diamondbacks.

    Altuve's steal was his first since Aug. 20, and his 14th of the season in 16 tries. He's not been lacking for opportunities on the basepaths lately -- he's hit .377 (20-for-53) with four walks over his last 12 games. The second baseman has a .315/.398/.531 slash line with 17 home runs, 51 RBI and 75 runs scored through 88 contests.

    Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Diagnosed with knee contusion

    Hoerner departed Friday's game against the Brewers with a left knee contusion, Maddie Lee of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

    Hoerner suffered the contusion when he fouled a ball off his knee in the top of the sixth inning. X-rays came back negative for any fractures, per Lee, and the second baseman will try to rally back Saturday with the Cubs in must-win territory to keep their NL wild-card hopes alive.

    Twins' Jorge Polanco: Removed with sore ankle

    Polanco is considered day-to-day after exiting Friday's game at Colorado due to right ankle soreness, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.

    Polanco tweaked his ankle on a fourth-inning strikeout, though he was able to gut it out until the bottom of the sixth. Donovan Solano slid over from first base to second base with Alex Kirilloff entering to play first. This is the same ankle Polanco has twice had surgically repaired, but it sounds like he could be available as early as Saturday for the AL Central-champion Twins.

    Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Exits with apparent injury

    Hoerner was pulled from Friday's game against the Brewers with an apparent knee injury, Tim Stebbins of MLB.com reports.

    Hoerner fouled a ball off his left knee in the top of the sixth inning and was replaced at second base by Miles Mastrobuoni to begin the bottom of the seventh. Hoerner finished the night 0-for-3.

    Twins' Edouard Julien: Gets breather Friday

    Julien is not in the lineup Friday against the Rockies.

    This looks to be a planned day of rest for Julien, who boasts an .825 OPS with 15 homers and three steals through his first 107 major-league games. Christian Vazquez will serve as the Twins' designated hitter Friday at Colorado. Donovan Solano is batting leadoff.

  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Added to lineup Friday

    Westburg was added to the lineup for Friday's game against the Red Sox, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

    Baltimore has made a few alterations after scratching both Adley Rutschman and Ramon Urias due to illness. Westburg will play third base and bat sixth as James McCann handles the catching duties and hits eighth.

    Pirates' Ji Hwan Bae: Sitting Friday

    Bae isn't in the Pirates' lineup Friday against the Marlins, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

    Bae has gone 5-for-20 with four RBI and three runs scored across his last five games, and he'll get a breather to open Pittsburgh's final series of 2023. Jared Triolo will start at second base instead while Connor Joe gets the nod at first base.

    Marlins' Luis Arraez: Still out Friday

    Arraez (ankle) isn't in the Marlins' lineup Friday against Pittsburgh, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

    As the Marlins continue to fight for the third NL Wild Card spot, Arraez will miss his fourth consecutive start since aggravating a left ankle sprain Saturday against the Brewers. Jon Berti will start at second base and bat sixth.

  • Red Sox's Enmanuel Valdez: Sitting against lefty

    Valdez is not in the lineup Friday against the Orioles.

    Pablo Reyes will play second base and bat seventh versus the O's and left-hander John Means. Valdez has gone 1-for-12 with five strikeouts against lefties this season.
