  • Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Out of lineup Friday

Westburg is not in the lineup Friday against the Red Sox.

Adam Frazier will start at second base and bat seventh as Ramon Urias covers third base and hits eighth. The 24-year-old Westburg has slashed just .120/.185/.160 with 12 strikeouts over his last 27 plate appearances dating back to Sept. 13.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: On bench Friday

Massey is not in the lineup Friday against the Yankees.

Massey went 2-for-4 with a homer and two RBI in Thursday's series finale against the Tigers, but he'll take a seat Friday with the Yankees sending left-hander Carlos Rodon to the bump. Matt Duffy is starting at second base and batting seventh.

  • Andy Ibanez 2B | NYM

Tigers' Andy Ibanez: Taking seat Friday

Ibanez is absent from the lineup for Friday's game against the Guardians.

Ibanez had started nine straight games prior to Friday, making seven starts at second base and another two in left field. He'll begin this one on the bench, though, as Zach McKinstry covers second base and Akil Baddoo patrols left field.

  • Royals' Michael Massey: Hits two-run shot

Massey went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run in Thursday's loss against the Tigers.

Massey jumped on a hanging sinker from Sawyer Gipson-Long in the top of the third inning and sent it into the stands in right field, putting the Royals up 3-0. He later added a single but was left stranded, giving him his sixth multi-hit game this month. The second baseman is now up to 15 home runs on the season, with five of them coming in September.

  • Kolten Wong 2B | BAL

Dodgers' Kolten Wong: Three hits off bench

Wong went 3-for-3 off the bench in Thursday's 14-5 loss to the Rockies.

Mookie Betts was taken out of the game once the Dodgers fell far behind, and Wong stepped up to lead the team in hits despite not starting the contest. Wong has two multi-hit efforts over his last three games, but those are his only such games since joining the Dodgers. He's slashing .186/.259/.267 through 85 contests between Los Angeles and Seattle, though he's at a .333/.387/.556 slash line in a limited sample (31 plate appearances) with the Dodgers.

  • Dodgers' Enrique Hernandez: Blasts homer in loss

Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional run scored in Thursday's 14-5 loss to the Rockies.

Hernandez had gone 15 games without a homer entering Thursday. The utility man gave the Dodgers a short-lived 3-1 lead with his second-inning blast. He's hitting .283 (17-for-60) in September and .269 since he joined the Dodgers in a trade from the Red Sox. Between the two teams this year, he's at a .239/.292/.354 slash line with 10 homers, 58 RBI, 56 runs scored and four stolen bases over 138 contests.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Has partial UCL tear

Manager Buck Showalter announced Thursday that McNeil (elbow) has been diagnosed with a partial UCL tear, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

McNeil was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday afternoon with what was initially called a left elbow sprain. He is expected to avoid surgery and will try platelet-rich plasma (PRP) treatment with the goal of being 100 percent recovered by the beginning of spring training next February. The 31-year-old signed a four-year, $50 million contract extension with the Mets before the start of the 2023 campaign and went on to slash .270/.333/.378 with 10 homers and 10 steals in 156 games.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Mariners' Josh Rojas: Idle versus lefty

Rojas isn't in the Mariners' lineup Thursday against the Rangers.

Left-hander Jordan Montgomery will toe the slab to start Thursday's contest, meaning Rojas will remain on the bench to begin the game. Jose Cabaellero will start at second base and bat ninth in Rojas' place.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

Mets' Danny Mendick: Recalled from Syracuse

The Mets recalled Mendick from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday.

Mendick will provide depth off the bench after Jeff McNeil (elbow) was shut down for the final four games. Mendick, 30, has batted just .190/.227/.286 across 66 major-league plate appearances this year.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Marlins' Luis Arraez: Remains sidelined Thursday

Arraez (ankle) remains out of the lineup Thursday versus the Mets.

Arraez has now started only two of the Marlins' last seven games, at a crucial time as they look to claim the third NL wild-card spot. He sprained his left ankle during an infield drill last Tuesday and then aggravated the injury Saturday when he slipped on the dugout steps in Miami. Xavier Edwards is covering second base and batting ninth in Thursday's series finale against New York.
