Major League Baseball is currently investigating Marcano (knee) for a violation of the sport's gambling policy, which could result in a lifetime ban, Jared Diamond and Lindsey Adler of The Wall Street Journal Report report.

According to the report, four other minor-league players are under investigation along with Marcano, a 24-year-old infielder who has been on the Padres' 10-day injured list all season while he completes his recovery from a torn ACL. Per Jeff Passan of ESPN.com, while MLB's investigation isn't yet complete, a penalty for Marcano could be imposed in the coming days. Marcano has seen big-league action in each of the previous three seasons as a member of the Padres and Pirates, slashing .217/.269/.320 with five home runs and seven stolen bases across 447 career plate appearances.

The Phillies placed Clemens on the 10-day injured list Monday with lower-back spasms, Alex Coffey of The Philadelphia Inquirer reports.

Clemens had been set to return to action Sunday against the Cardinals before being scratched from the lineup. The Phillies have ultimately opted to give him extra time to heal from the back injury. He should have a chance to return from the IL next week when first eligible.

McNeil is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Nationals.

The lefty-hitting McNeil is being withheld from the lineup for Mets' second straight matchup with a left-hander (MacKenzie Gore), as he had previously taken a seat when New York opposed Arizona southpaw Jordan Montgomery on Monday. McNeil could be moving into the strong side of a platoon at second base with the righty-hitting Jose Iglesias, who will draw another start.

The Orioles placed Mateo on the 7-day concussion injured list Monday.

Mateo's move to the 7-day IL comes as little surprise after he entered MLB's concussion protocol when he was removed in Saturday's 4-3 loss to the Rays after being inadvertently hit the back of the helmet by teammate Cedric Mullins, who was swinging in the on-deck circle alongside him. Ramon Urias came off the bench to replace Mateo, but the Orioles could turn to rookie Connor Norby -- who was called up from Triple-A Norfolk in a corresponding move -- to step in for Mateo as their new everyday second baseman.

Vargas went 2-for-4 with a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Sunday's win over the Guardians.

Getting another start at shortstop in place of CJ Abrams (shoulder) and batting ninth, Vargas swiped his fifth bag of the season in a productive afternoon. Abrams could be back in the lineup as soon as Monday against the Mets, bumping Vargas back to the bench, but the veteran utility player has been effective when called upon this season, slashing .288/.368/.385 through 120 plate appearances.

Grissom, who was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday with a right hamstring strain, is slated to undergo an MRI, Christopher Smith of The Springfield Republican reports. "We're not there yet," manager Alex Cora said, when asked about a timeline for Grissom's return. "He feels like it wasn't as bad as in spring training. But he's getting imaging so we'll know."

Grissom's upcoming MRI should shed light on the severity of the hamstring strain he sustained in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Tigers. As Cora notes, Grissom was previously slowed by a left groin/hamstring injury in spring training, which prevented the 23-year-old from making his Red Sox debut until May 3. For whatever length of time Grissom is sidelined this time around, Enmanuel Valdez is likely to serve as the Red Sox's primary second baseman against right-handed pitching, while Jamie Westbrook should be the main option at the keystone versus lefties.

The Twins optioned Julien to Triple-A St. Paul on Monday.

Julien put up a 132 OPS+ last season as a rookie and opened the 2024 campaign as the Twins' leadoff man against right-handed pitching. While he started off with an .830 OPS in April this season, he posted a .482 OPS with a 36.5 percent strikeout rate since May 1. Julien could regain a regular role with Minnesota later this season, but he'll head to St. Paul for now as he looks to get back on track. Willi Castro will likely take over as the Twins' primary second baseman, with Kyle Farmer being mixed in against lefties.

Valdez started at second base and went 1-for-5 with an RBI in Sunday's 8-4 extra-inning loss to Detroit.

After serving as Boston's designated hitter Saturday, Valdez made a second consecutive start Sunday. He's expected to serve as the primary second baseman against right-handers while Vaughn Grissom (hamstring) and Romy Gonzalez (hamstring) are on the 10-day injured list, per Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe. Valdez will share the position with Jamie Westbrook, who should get the majority of the starts against left-handed pitching.

Schneemann went 1-for-3 with a two-run double in Sunday's 5-2 loss to the Nationals.

Schneemann made his major-league debut Sunday, and it didn't take him long to add a couple other milestones. He produced a two-run double in his first at-bat, providing all of the Guardians' run production in the contest. The 27-year-old is likely to take on a utility role -- he started at second base Sunday but likely won't see much time there with Andres Gimenez in a starting role at the keystone. Schneemann's best paths to playing time will likely be right field or shortstop, as Will Brennan and Brayan Rocchio haven't hit particularly well despite seeing large roles this season.

Gelof went 1-for-4 with a solo home run during Sunday's 3-1 loss to Atlanta.

Gelof put up the A's only tally Sunday, swatting a game-tying homer off Dylan Lee in the seventh inning. The long ball was Gelof's fourth of the season, and his first since April 22. The second baseman finished the three-game series with Atlanta 3-for-11 (.273) with three extra-base hits, two RBI and three runs.
