Sosa slashed .261/.314/.522 with two homers, 11 RBI and six runs scored across 51 plate appearances in the Cactus League and is expected to begin the year as the White Sox's primary DH, but he will remain on the bench during the team's season opener. Andrew Benintendi will serve as the designated hitter instead while Austin Hays, Luisangel Acuna and Everson Pereira start across the outfield.

The Mets designated Brujan for assignment Wednesday.
Brujan got on base at a .400 clip this spring, but that wasn't enough to win a reserve role in New York. The utility player has bounced around to multiple organization and has yet to establish himself at the big-league level, sporting a .199/.267/.276 batting line across parts of five seasons.

The Cubs selected Kingery's contract from Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday.
Kingery was able to emerge from spring training with a utility job after slashing a middling .204/.339/.327 over 59 plate appearances but making an impact on the basepaths (five steals in five attempts). The 31-year-old is unlikely to see extensive playing time, but he could prove to be a useful bench asset thanks to his speed and ability to play three infield spots and all three outfield positions.

Cardinals' JJ Wetherholt: Officially added to 40-man roster
The Cardinals selected Wetherholt's contract from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday.
St. Louis freed up a spot on the 40-man roster for their top prospect by placing outfielder Lars Nootbaar (heels) on the 60-day injured list. Following a dazzling 2025 campaign that included stops at Memphis and Double-A Springfield, Wetherholt continued to impress throughout spring training, posting a .386 on-base percentage in the Grapefruit League while contributing two home runs and two stolen bases. He's projected to serve as the Cardinals' everyday second baseman and is expected to bat leadoff in Thursday's season opener versus Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen.

Orioles' Jordan Westburg: Officially lands on IL
The Orioles placed Westburg (elbow) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Westburg isn't expected to be ready to make his season debut until at least early May while he recovers from a partial UCL tear in his right elbow. Per MLB.com, Westburg has been running, fielding grounders and taking one-handed swings as of last week, but he has a few more checkpoints to hit in the recovery process before he'll be ready to head out on a rehab assignment.

Braves' Ha-Seong Kim: Hitting shelf to begin season
Atlanta placed Kim (finger) on its 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Kim isn't expected to be ready to make his season debut until at least some point in the first half of May after he required surgery in January to address a torn tendon in his right middle finger. The 30-year-old reported to spring training March 16 to resume taking part in baseball activities, though he has yet to be cleared to resume swinging a bat. Mauricio Dubon is expected to serve as Atlanta's everyday shortstop while Kim is on the shelf.

The Royals placed Massey (calf) on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.
Massey has been ramping things back up, and because the IL move is backdated to Sunday, he will be eligible for activation April 1. It's unclear whether he'll be ready to return from his calf strain by that time, but his absence is projected to be brief.

The Dodgers placed Edman (ankle) on the 10-day injured list Monday.
The IL move for Edman was a formality, as he's still working his way back from right ankle surgery and didn't play in any Cactus League contests. The Dodgers are aiming for Edman to be ready for his season debut around late May. Per MLB.com, Edman has been able to take batting practice and recently progressed to straight-line running.
