  • Luis Rengifo 3B | LAA

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Resting up Sunday

Rengifo is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Athletics.

Rengifo will get the afternoon off Sunday after he started in each of the Angels' last eight contests. Chris Taylor will fill in for Rengifo at second base and will bat fifth.

  • Padres' Jose Iglesias: On bench for third straight vs. RHP

Iglesias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rockies.

Iglesias will hit the bench while Jake Cronenworth shifts over from shortstop to make his first start at shortstop since the 2022 season. With Xander Bogaerts (foot) out indefinitely, the Padres could prioritize offense over defense by phasing out Iglesias and leaning more heavily on Cronenworth and Luis Arraez in the middle infield, which would open up a regular spot in the lineup for the hot-hitting Gavin Sheets. Iglesias had already sat out the Padres' previous two matchups against right-handed starters, though San Diego went with Mason McCoy rather than Cronenworth at shortstop in both of those contests.

  • Ramon Urias 2B | HOU

Astros' Ramon Urias: Not in Sunday's lineup

Urias is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Rangers.

Urias started five straight games from Aug. 31 to Sept. 4, but he finds himself on the bench Sunday for the third straight game while in the midst of a 5-for-28 (.179) slump. Mauricio Dubon is receiving the start at second base in the series finale for Houston.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | KC

Royals' Adam Frazier: Left out of lineup Sunday

Frazier is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Twins.

After starting the last five games and going 3-for-16 with one home run, one double, two walks, three runs and two RBI, Frazier will receive a breather. The Royals will go with Michael Massey at second base and Randal Grichuk in left field in the series finale.

  • Hye Seong Kim 2B | LAD

Dodgers' Hyeseong Kim: Third straight start vs. RHP

Kim will start at second base and bat seventh in Sunday's game against the Orioles.

After being activated from the 10-day injured list Tuesday, Kim came off the bench for the ensuing two contests, but he's now started in three straight games with right-handers on the mound for the opposition. The rookie could end up holding down a strong-side platoon role at the keystone until Tommy Edman (ankle) returns from the IL.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Blue Jays' Andres Gimenez: Not in Sunday's lineup

Gimenez is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Yankees, Shi Davidi of Sportsnet.ca reports.

Gimenez started the previous 20 games and will receive a day off after posting a .185/.243/.292 slash line during that stretch. Davis Schneider is manning the keystone in Sunday's series finale for Toronto.

  • Guardians' Daniel Schneemann: Pops two-run double in win

Schneemann started at second base and went 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, two RBI and a run scored in Saturday's 3-2 win over the Rays. He was also caught stealing.

Schneemann was integral to the win, which vaulted Cleveland above Tampa Bay in the postseason chase. He popped a two-run, bases-loaded double to left-center to put the Guardians on top in the fourth inning. He later led off the ninth with a single and scored the game-winning run. The offense came out of nowhere for Schneemann, who entered the contest on a 1-for-25 skid over the previous eight games.

  • Orioles' Jackson Holliday: Resting Sunday

Holliday is out of the lineup for Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

The Orioles will give Holliday a couple of days to catch his breath with a team day off coming Monday. Holliday had made 12 consecutive starts at second base, but he'll yield to Luis Vazquez on Sunday.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Hopes for rehab games this week

Donovan (groin) hopes to begin a rehab assignment sometime during the upcoming week, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Donovan has been upping his baseball activities as he works his way back from a left groin strain and appears almost ready to test things out in a game setting. He could be eyeing a return Sept. 15 when the Cardinals return to St. Louis to begin a homestand. Donovan has been sidelined since mid-August.

  • Matt McLain SS | CIN

Reds' Matt McLain: In productive stretch

McLain went 1-for-1 with two walks and a solo home run in Saturday's 6-3 win over the Mets.

McLain and other Cincinnati hitters jumped on New York right-hander Jonah Tong for homers in three consecutive innings. He's launched three homers in the last seven games and extended a hit streak to nine contests, during which he's gone 11-for-27 (.407) with three home runs, six RBI and eight runs. His .230 batting average is at its highest point since April 2.
