Chavis is out of the lineup for Thursday's game against the Blue Jays, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

After starting five times in seven-game span, the righty-hitting Chavis will sit for the second consecutive contest, even though Toronto is bringing a lefty (Hyun Jin Ryu) to the hill. Chavis has gone 3-for-19 at the dish since his June 9 promotion from Triple-A Worcester, but despite his lack of success, he should see semi-regular at-bats as Boston's top utility option until Marwin Gonzalez (hamstring) returns from the injured list.

Hoerner was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right oblique strain Thursday, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.

Hoerner suffered an oblique injury while attempting to check his swing Wednesday, and he'll be unavailable for at least 10 days. The Cubs called up Sergio Alcantara to serve as infield depth, but David Bote will likely work as the primary second baseman while the 24-year-old Hoerner is sidelined.

Hoerner (oblique) isn't starting Thursday's game against Cincinnati.

Hoerner exited Wednesday's loss to the Reds due to right oblique tightness, and he'll be unable to return to the lineup Thursday. Whether he's available off the bench remains to be seen, but David Bote will start at second base and bat eighth.

McNeil isn't starting Thursday's game against Atlanta.

McNeil racked up two hits in each of his last two games, and he went 6-for-12 with a home run, two doubles, four RBI and two strikeouts during that time. Brandon Drury will start at second base and bat eighth.

Polanco went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run, two runs scored and a walk Wednesday against the Tigers.

Polanco waited until the bottom of the ninth inning to do the majority of his damage, takingGregory Soto yard for his 15th homer of the season. He's swung the bat well since the All-Star break, collecting at least one hit in 10 of his 12 starts while also recording three homers, eight RBI and nine runs. Overall, he's managed a .266/.329/.454 line across 401 plate appearances while also chipping in nine steals.

Drury went 1-for-1 with a game-winning solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over Atlanta.

Entering the game as a pinch hitter in the seventh inning, Drury got hold of a Max Fried curveball to produce the winning margin. The 28-year-old utility player now has four homers in only 52 plate appearances for the Mets, but he's unlikely to push his way into consistent playing time unless the team suffers another rash of injuries.

Hoerner was removed from Wednesday's game against the Reds with right oblique tightness, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Hoerner was pulled from the game in the seventh inning after appearing to injure himself while attempting to check a swing. It's unclear how severe the issue may be, though it appears a stint on the injured list is possible.

Espinal went 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base Wednesday against Boston.

Espinal received the start at third base in the back half of Wednesday's doubleheader and picked up his third steal of the year in the third inning. The 26-year-old landed on Toronto's roster as a utility infielder but has logged the bulk of his playing time at third base, slashing .315/.361/.419 with one home run and 10 RBI in 133 plate appearances this season. Espinal would likely move back to his original utility role if Toronto acquires a more offensive-minded third baseman prior to the trade deadline.

Hoerner exited Wednesday's game in the seventh inning with an apparent side injury, Russell Dorsey of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Hoerner reportedly grabbed his right side after attempting to check his swing on a strikeout earlier in the game, according to Jordan Bastian of MLB.com. The severity of the injury remains unclear. Meanwhile, Kris Bryant took over at shortstop, his second career appearance at the position.

Biggio is not in the lineup for Game 2 of Wednesday's doubleheader at Boston.

Biggio started the matinee and went 1-for-3 with a pair of strikeouts. The 26-year-old has struggled since the All-Star break, going 5-for-27 with a solo home run, two walks and an additional run scored in nine games. Santiago Espinal will start at third base in the nightcap.
