Chavis was traded from the Red Sox to the Pirates on Friday, Keith Law of The Athletic reports.

Chavis was once a fairly highly rated prospect, but he's failed to live up to his potential through his first 168 MLB games. He's struck out in 33.6 percent of his plate appearances while slashing just .234/.291/.413. The move to one of the league's most pitcher-friendly parks in Pittsburgh certainly doesn't help his outlook, though he's at least now with a rebuilding organization that could give him the opportunity to work through his struggles in a regular role.

Lux (hamstring) is rehabbing at the Dodgers' spring training facility and will begin a rehab assignment soon, Michael J. Duarte of NBC LA reports.

Lux has been taking batting practice and sprinting, and he recently indicated that his recovery from a strained left hamstring is going better than expected. A specific date for the start of his rehab assignment has not been determined, but he remains likely to return to the big club in early August. It's unclear where Lux will fit in once he returns, however, as Corey Seager (hand) is slated to return to action Friday and the recently acquired Trea Turner may be able to come off the COVID-19 injured list within the next week.

Short isn't starting Friday's game against the Orioles, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

Short will get a breather after going 1-for-11 with a double, two RBI, a run and four strikeouts across the last three games. Harold Castro will start at shortstop and bat seventh.

Mendick was optioned to Triple-A Charlotte on Friday.

The 27-year-old started the past two games, but he'll head to the minors to make room on the big-league roster for Cesar Hernandez, who was acquired from Cleveland on Thursday. Mendick could return to the majors later in the year if Chicago requires another utility option.

Miller was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Friday, Zack Meisel of The Athletic reports.

Cesar Hernandez was shipped to the White Sox on Thursday, and Miller will take his place on Cleveland's roster for now. The 24-year-old received his first taste of the big leagues earlier this season and went 5-for-47 with 24 strikeouts in 28 games, but he could be in the mix for regular playing time at the keystone with Hernandez out of the picture. However Andres Gimenez, who isn't able to accompany the team for a four-game set in Toronto to begin next week while establishing his permanent residency in the U.S., could take Miller's roster spot when the team returns to Cleveland on Aug. 6.

Espinal went 2-for-4 with a walk, two runs scored and an RBI in Thursday's rout of the Red Sox.

Getting the nod at third base and hitting eighth, Espinal made a contribution in a 13-1 win that saw every Jays starter collect at least one hit and drive in at least one run. With Lourdes Gurriel (elbow) sidelined and Cavan Biggio seeing more action in the outfield as a result, Espinal and his .320/.370/.422 slash line in 138 plate appearances this season could see an uptick in playing time in the short term.

Semien went 2-for-4 with a walk, two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI in Thursday's rout of the Red Sox.

The Jays banged out seven two-baggers in total on the night as they played wall ball in Fenway Park to fuel a 13-1 win. Semien hasn't missed a beat despite losing his spot at the top of the order to George Springer, hitting safely in six straight games and slashing .289/.347/.533 since the All-Star break.

Frazier isn't in the lineup Thursday against the Rockies, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

Frazier led off in each of his first two appearances with his new club, and he went 2-for-10 with two runs and a strikeout. He'll get a breather as Jake Cronenworth shifts to the keystone while Eric Hosmer starts at first base.

Gimenez won't be called up within the next week despite Thursday's trade that sent Cesar Hernandez to the White Sox, Joe Noga of The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports.

While Gimenez struggled significantly at the big-league level to open the season, he's hit a much better .274/.335/.492 for Triple-A Columbus and would be Hernandez's logical replacement. The Venezuelan infielder is in the process of establishing permanent residency in the United States, however, meaning he couldn't take part in next week's trip to Toronto. Owen Miller will get the call-up for now, but it's possible Gimenez gets an opportunity when Cleveland crosses the border again to host the Tigers on Aug. 6.

Miller will be called up ahead of Cleveland's weekend series against the White Sox, Ryan Lewis of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.

Miller could get a shot as the regular second baseman down the stretch after Cesar Hernandez was dealt to the White Sox on Thursday. He struggled to a .106/.160/.128 line in his 18-game debut earlier this season, but he owns a far better .297/.374/.489 line in 48 games for Triple-A Columbus.
