  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Sits after nine straight starts

Torres is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Tigers.

For the first time since Opening Day, Torres will move to the bench, ending a streak of nine consecutive starts. Though Torres has essentially served as the Yankees' everyday second baseman while DJ LeMahieu has moved about the infield, the former hasn't been able to take advantage of the consistent playing time. Over his nine starts, Torres went 5-for-31 (.161 average) with one home run and two RBI.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Heading for MRI

Altuve (hamstring) is scheduled for an MRI on Tuesday, Jon Heyman of MLB Network reports.

Altuve left Monday's game against the Angels with a strained left hamstring. Initial reports indicated that he was merely considered day-to-day, but his MRI could reveal a more serious issue. If that's the case, expect to see Aledmys Diaz step into a starting role at second base.

  • Jonathan Arauz 3B | LAD

Red Sox's Jonathan Arauz: Heads to COVID-19 IL

The Red Sox placed Arauz on the COVID-19-related injured list Tuesday.

Boston is dealing with a minor COVID-19 outbreak to close out its homestand. After catcher Kevin Plawecki tested positive for the virus Monday along with two staff members, backstop Christian Vazquez and Arauz were added to the COVID-19 IL on Tuesday. Arauz had previously made three consecutive starts at second base from April 10 through 12, but he's seen limited action off the bench in the subsequent five games after Trevor Story shook off an illness. Pete Abraham of The Boston Globe notes that Arauz is vaccinated, so he'll be eligible to join the Red Sox for next week's series in Toronto if he clears MLB's testing protocol in timely fashion.

  • Tigers' Harold Castro: Sits after four straight starts

Castro is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Yankees.

After starting at shortstop in each of the previous four games, Castro will cede the position to Willi Castro in the series opener with the Yankees. Harold went 0-for-9 with four strikeouts over his most recent three starts, so it wouldn't be surprising if Willi ended up displacing him as the preferred option at the position while Javier Baez (thumb) is on the shelf.

  • Angels' Jeremiah Jackson: Lands on injured list

Jackson was placed on Double-A Rocket City's 7-day injured list Tuesday due to an unspecified injury, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Jackson appeared in two games for Rocket City to open the season but has now been sidelined for 10 days due to the injury. The Angels haven't said when he's expected to return.

  • Ozzie Albies 2B | ATL

Braves' Ozzie Albies: Slugs fifth homer

Albies went 1-for-5 with a solo home run Monday in a loss to the Dodgers.

Albies helped chase Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw in the sixth inning with a 421-foot solo blast. That was the second baseman's only hit of the game, and he has only one multi-hit effort so far this season. Albies is batting .213 through 47 at-bats, but he is tied for the MLB lead with five long balls.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

    Rays' Xavier Edwards: Nearing return

Edwards (shoulder) has been working out at the team's spring training facility and is nearing a return to game action, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Edwards was diagnosed with a shoulder impingement in early April, though the issue was not deemed to be major. It's not clear exactly what activity Edwards has been engaged in while missing game action, but it appears that a return in late April remains realistic.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Diagnosed with hamstring strain

Altuve is being considered day-to-day with a left hamstring strain, Danielle Lerner of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Altuve was unable to finish Monday's contest after stepping awkwardly on first base in an effort to beat out an infield single, though he appears to have avoided a significant injury. The team will likely re-evaluate the star second baseman in the morning to determine his status for Tuesday's matchup. Aledmys Diaz figures to see time at the keystone if Altuve is unable to go.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Exits with injury

Altuve was removed from Monday's game against the Angels due to an undisclosed injury, Brian McTaggart of MLB.com reports.

Altuve suffered the injury while running down the line to beat out an infield hit, and according to McTaggart, he appeared to step on first base awkwardly. The location and severity of the injury are unknown at this point.

  • Reds' Jonathan India: Won't start in San Diego

Manager David Bell said Monday it has yet to be decided whether India (hamstring) will be placed on the injured list, though the second baseman won't rejoin the starting lineup until at least Friday even if he avoids the shelf, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

India has already missed three games due to the hamstring injury and is out again Monday, and he apparently won't rejoin the lineup during the three-game set in San Diego, which ends Wednesday. A trip to the injured list would make sense for the 25-year-old at this point since he's already set to miss more time, and he could still return early next week since the transaction can be backdated a few days. Brandon Drury should continue to see action at the keystone in his absence.
