Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH
Mets' Jeff McNeil: Slow start to spring
McNeil has only one hit, a solo home run, in 18 at-bats through his first seven Grapefruit League appearances.
He's also had some defensive issues at third base, and his 0:4 BB:K could use some work. McNeil's starting job isn't in any jeopardy, however. He should spend most of his time at second base while hitting near the top of the order after beginning his big-league career with a .319/.383/.501 slash line across three seasons.

Mark Mathias 2B | CIN
Brewers' Mark Mathias: Heads to 60-day IL
The Brewers placed Mathias (shoulder) on the 60-day injured list Tuesday.
Mathias becomes the second Brewers utility man to hit the 60-day IL, joining Tim Lopes (oblique). According to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, manager Craig Counsell said Mathias was diagnosed with a torn labrum, but he doesn't believe the injury will sideline the 26-year-old for the entire season. That said, Mathias acknowledged that his recovery timeline will hinge on whether he needs surgery to address the injury. For now, Mathias is hopeful to address the labrum tear through non-surgical means, which would allow him to return to action in 3-to-4 months, per Adam McCalvy of MLB.com.

Ha-seong Kim 2B | ATL
Padres' Ha-seong Kim: Back in action
Kim (illness) will start at shortstop and bat sixth in Tuesday's Cactus League game against the White Sox.
Kim missed only two days of work after coming down with the illness, so his preparation for Opening Day won't be too affected. The rookie has gone 2-for-18 with four walks and seven strikeouts through his first nine Cactus League games.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Returns to lineup
Marte (foot) is back in the lineup Tuesday against Oakland, batting second and playing center field.
Marte got hit in the foot by a pitch Monday against the Mariners, but he checked out fine after the game. He won't even need a single day off despite the fact that it's still spring training, so there's seemingly little reason to worry about any lingering effects.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Avoids significant injury
According to manager Torey Luvullo, Marte is "fine" after being struck by a pitch on his right foot during Monday's spring game against Seattle, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.
Marte was lifted from the exhibition after getting hit by the pitch, but it appears this move was only precautionary. The Diamondbacks will likely proceed with caution over the next few days with their starting center fielder, however.

Jonathan India 2B | KC
Reds' Jonathan India: Potential second base starter
The Reds are moving Eugenio Suarez to shortstop and Mike Moustakas to third base for Tuesday's spring training game against the Rockies, presumably with an eye towards using that alignment in-season. That would allow India to start at second base, C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic reports.
India got a lot of work at second base during 2020 at the Reds' alternate training camp site, and they were impressed with his work. Presumably the 2018 first-round pick out of Florida is considered a net upgrade over their current alternatives at shortstop. This buys the Reds some time to send Jose Garcia back to the minors to develop further with the bat.

Ketel Marte 2B | ARI
Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Exits after pitch hits foot
Marte left Monday's game against the Mariners after a pitch hit his foot, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports.
Marte walked slowly to first base with a team trainer before exiting the game. Whether or not he suffered a significant injury is not yet clear. If he's forced to miss time at the start of the regular season, Daulton Varsho or Tim Locastro could see starts in center field.

Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC
Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Could return Wednesday
Hoerner (back) wanted to play Monday and could return to the lineup as soon as Wednesday following Tuesday's off day, Gordon Wittenmyer of NBC Sports Chicago reports.
Hoerner was scratched from the lineup for Sunday's game against the Angels, but the issue evidently isn't a particularly serious one. His readiness for Opening Day doesn't appear to be threatened.
-
Brendan Rodgers 2B | BOS
Rockies' Brendan Rodgers: Injury not too serious
Rodgers will continue to rest his hamstring for now, but the injury he suffered Saturday against the Mariners isn't thought to be serious, Nick Groke of The Athletic reports.
Rodgers hasn't had the best luck with injuries, but this particular issue doesn't seem like a major one. If he can get back on the field soon, he'll still have time to make the Opening Day roster.

Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC
Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Scratched with back tightness
Hoerner was scratched from Sunday's spring game against the Angels with lower back tightness, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
It's unclear when the back issue first surfaced for the 23-year-old, though he went 0-for-2 with a walk and a caught stealing during Saturday's contest. Hoerner has been crushing the ball so far in spring training with a 1.383 OPS and four extra-base hits through seven games, and it's unclear how long the back issue is expected to keep him sidelined.
