  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Gets first start in outfield

Donovan will start in right field and bat fifth in Sunday's game against the Pirates, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

With the Cardinals recently moving Tommy Edman over to shortstop to clear room at the keystone for prospect Nolan Gorman, Donovan looks like he'll lose out on the everyday role in the infield he held for the better part of the past two weeks. However, Donovan looks like he could still end up playing regularly in the corner outfield or at designated hitter after Tyler O'Neill (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day injured list. For at least Sunday's contest, though, Donovan will be filling in for Dylan Carlson, who is day-to-day after exiting Saturday's 5-4 win with hamstring tightness.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Dealing with bruised hand

Rojas left Saturday's game against the Cubs with a left hand contusion.

Adding insult to injury, the bruise occured when Rojas was struck in the hand by a pitch that he swung at and struck out on, but he's at least escaped without a serious injury. He may need some time off to wait for his swelling and soreness to subside, but it appears that he's avoided the longer absence which would come with a fracture. Yonny Hernandez replaced him and could see some extra playing time if Rojas winds up being forced to sit for a few days.

  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: Takes seat against left-hander

Donovan isn't starting Saturday against the Pirates, John Denton of MLB.com

The 25-year-old has started exclusively against right-handed pitchers since joining the major-league club, and he'll take a seat with southpaw Jose Quintana on the mound Saturday. Nolan Gorman made his major-league debut at second base Friday, so Donovan will likely see most of his playing time in left field going forward.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Not starting Saturday

Gorman isn't starting Saturday against the Pirates, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Gorman made his major-league debut in Friday's series opener against Pittsburgh, and he went 1-for-3 with a run and a walk. However, he'll get a breather with left-hander Jose Quintana on the mound Saturday. Tommy Edman will shift to second base while Edmundo Sosa (ankle) returns to the lineup at shortstop.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | CHW

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Exits with left hand injury

Rojas was removed from Saturday's game against the Cubs after being hit by a pitch on his left hand in the top of the first inning, Nick Piecoro of The Arizona Republic reports.

Rojas swung when he was hit by a pitch, so he struck out during his lone plate appearance Saturday and was replaced defensively in the bottom of the first. The severity of the 27-year-old's injury isn't yet clear, but he should tentatively be considered day-to-day. If Rojas misses additional time, Yonny Hernandez should see increased work at the hot corner.

  • Nico Hoerner 2B | CHC

Cubs' Nico Hoerner: Running bases Saturday

Hoerner (ankle) will run the bases Saturday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Hoerner was cleared for baseball activities this week, but Saturday's workout will mark the first time he's run the bases since sustaining his ankle injury. The 25-year-old has been on the injured list for nearly a week, and it's possible he'll require a minor-league rehab assignment prior to rejoining the Cubs.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Returns to lineup

Marte is starting Saturday against the Cubs.

Marte has dealt with a sore hand recently, and he was out of the lineup for three of the last four games. However, he'll start at the keystone and bat third during Saturday's matchup, and he's also expected to start Sunday. Since the start of May, the 28-year-old has hit .365 with a home run, a triple, seven doubles, 11 runs, five RBI and a stolen base over 16 games.

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Team being cautious

Marte is expected to play Saturday and Sunday against the Cubs, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Eyebrows were raised when the Diamondbacks gave Marte the day off Friday. He had missed games Tuesday and Wednesday with a sore left hand but returned to play Thursday. Apparently, the club was being cautious in not wanting the second baseman to make back-to-back starts after having just returned from injury.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Pirates' Michael Chavis: Homers in loss

Chavis went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and two strikeouts in Friday's 5-3 loss to the Cardinals.

Chavis has drawn starts in the last four matchups, and he's recorded hits in each of those games. During that time, he's gone 7-for-13 with a homer, a double, two RBI and a run. The 26-year-old put the Pirates on the board with his solo homer in the bottom of the seventh inning Friday, marking the first time he's gone yard since April 30.

  • Nolan Gorman 2B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Reaches base twice in debut

Gorman went 1-for-3 with a run and a walk in Friday's 5-3 win over the Pirates.

Gorman played second base and batted sixth in his major-league debut Friday, and he singled in his first at-bat while drawing a walk in the sixth inning. The 22-year-old is one of the Cardinals' top prospects and should see plenty of time at the keystone after hitting .308 with 15 homers, 31 runs, 23 RBI and three stolen bases in 34 games at Triple-A Memphis to begin the year.
