  • Cardinals' Brendan Donovan: On base five times Thursday

Donovan went 3-for-3 with a double and two runs scored in Thursday's 11-6 loss to the Nationals.

Donovan did his job as the leadoff man Thursday, reaching base in all five of his plate appearances. The effort increased his OBP to .400 on the season, good for fourth in the majors among batters with at least 300 plate appearances. His two runs now bring his total to nine in his last 10 games, as he has thrived hitting in front of Paul Goldschmidt and Nolan Arenado recently.

  • Nolan Gorman 3B | STL

Cardinals' Nolan Gorman: Riding pine Thursday

Gorman isn't starting Thursday against the Nationals, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Gorman started the last four games and went 3-for-13 with a homer, a double, two RBI and seven strikeouts. He'll get a breather while Albert Pujols serves as the designated hitter and bats sixth.

  • Jeff McNeil 2B | ATH

Mets' Jeff McNeil: Swipes third bag

McNeil went 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, a run scored, two RBI and a stolen base in a 10-0 win over the Pirates during the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader.

After picking up an RBI on a sacrifice fly in the matinee, McNeil was one of six different Mets to record multiple hits in the nightcap, chipping in his third steal of the year as well. Over his last 30 games, McNeil is slashing a blistering .361/.390/.500, but the hits haven't turned into a lot of production as he's compiled just one homer, one steal, 11 RBI and 13 runs over that stretch.

  • David Villar 1B | SF

Giants' David Villar: Goes deep twice in loss

Villar went 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBI in Wednesday's loss to the Dodgers.

Villar smacked a two-run homer off Clayton Kershaw to open the scoring in the fifth and later added a solo home run in the seventh off lefty reliever Justin Bruihl. The third baseman recently endured a rough seventeen-game stretch during which he slashed .075/.269/.100, but he's bounced back with three home runs in his last three games. The 25-year-old crushes lefties with a 1.187 OPS in 49 plate appearances compared to a .311 OPS in 47 plate appearances facing righties.

  • Ketel Marte 2B | ARI

Diamondbacks' Ketel Marte: Day off coming this weekend

Marte will play two of the three games in Colorado this weekend, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports. The Diamondbacks begin a three-game set in Denver on Friday.

Marte has an injury history at Coors Field, including his latest hamstring issue in mid-August which prompted two days off and several games limited to designated hitter. Arizona manager Torey Lovullo said at that time that Marte would likely get one day off the next time the team travels to Colorado.

  • Michael Chavis 2B | CIN

Pirates' Michael Chavis: Not starting Game 2

Chavis isn't starting the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Mets.

Chavis started at first base during Wednesday's matinee and went 2-for-4 with a double and a strikeout. He'll take a seat while Ben Gamel starts at first base and bats cleanup in the nightcap.

  • Bryson Stott 2B | PHI

Phillies' Bryson Stott: On bench Wednesday

Stott isn't starting Wednesday against the Marlins.

Stott went 5-for-11 with a solo homer, three total runs and four strikeouts over the last three games but will retreat to the bench for a second consecutive matchup. Edmundo Sosa will start at shortstop and bat ninth.

  • Alan Trejo SS | COL

Rockies' Alan Trejo: Settles in as primary shortstop

Trejo will start at shortstop and bat ninth in Wednesday's game against the Brewers, Patrick Lyons of TheDNVR.com reports.

Trejo looks as though he'll get a look as Colorado's everyday shortstop after Jose Iglesias (hand) was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday. The 26-year-old will pick up his fourth consecutive start at the position after going 4-for-9 with a double, a walk, an RBI and a run over the previous three contests.

  • Josh Rojas 3B | KC

Diamondbacks' Josh Rojas: Hits leadoff blast

Rojas went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-5 loss to the Padres.

Rojas got his contribution out of the way quickly, taking Joe Musgrove's first pitch of the game deep to left field for a leadoff homer. This ended a 20-game homer drought for Rojas, who hit .276 with five doubles, 10 RBI and 11 runs scored in that span. The 28-year-old has been fairly steady this year with a .275/.354/.401 slash line, eight long balls, 19 stolen bases, 46 RBI and 58 runs scored through 103 games.

  • Ha-seong Kim SS | ATL

Padres' Ha-Seong Kim: Clubs eighth homer

Kim went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Tuesday's 6-5 win over the Diamondbacks.

Kim entered Tuesday with no extra-base hits or RBI in his last nine contests. He changed that with a fifth-inning solo shot, his eighth homer of the season and his second since the start of August. The shortstop continues to do alright in a starting role, with a .256/.329/.382 slash line, 50 RBI, 49 runs scored and nine stolen bases through 126 contests.
