Astros' Jack Mayfield: Enters for injured Correa
Mayfield entered Tuesday's game after Carlos Correa left with an ankle injury. He went 0-for-1 and played shortstop for the final three innings of a 4-1 win over the Rangers.
Correa's injury has been diagnosed as a bone bruise and X-rays were negative. If the injury forces Correa to sit, Mayfield is a possible replacement, particularly with Aledmys Diaz (quadriceps) dealing with an injury.

Altuve returned to the lineup Tuesday after being activated from the injured list. In an atypical season, Altuve has produced atypical numbers, with his .598 OPS checking in nearly 300 points lower than his 2019 figure.

Merrifield went 2-for-5 with a double in the Royals' 6-0 loss to the Tigers on Tuesday night. He also stole a base.
Merrifield swiped his eight bag of the season and logged his third-consecutive multi-hit game. Unfortunately, the Royals were 0-for-6 with runners in scoring position and left 10 men on base during Tuesday's showing. Nonetheless, Merrifield remains one of the hottest hitters in baseball, riding a 13-for-30 stretch with three walks and only two strikeouts.

Yankees' Thairo Estrada: Returns to alternate site
Estrada was optioned to the alternate training site after Tuesday's win over the Blue Jays.
The 24-year-old saw regular playing time toward the end of August with DJ LeMahieu sidelined, but he's struggled with a .469 OPS in 25 games this season. Estrada may not rejoin the big-league club with the team getting healthier and with less than two weeks remaining in the regular season.

Chavis is out of the lineup Tuesday against the Marlins, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.
Chavis started the previous three games and went 3-for-10 with one homer and a stolen base. Yairo Munoz receives the start in left field for the series opener in Miami.

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Sitting with quad issue
Torres isn't in Tuesday's lineup due to a quadriceps issue, Lindsey Adler of The Athletic reports.
Torres isn't in the lineup for a second consecutive game, and manager Aaron Boone said that Torres is being held out as a precaution. He served as a pinch hitter Sunday and will be available to do so once again Tuesday, but Boone said that he doesn't want to risk a more serious injury by starting him.

Astros' Jose Altuve: Activated, starting Tuesday
Altuve (knee) was activated from the 10-day injured list and is starting Tuesday against the Rangers, Jake Kaplan of The Athletic reports.
Altuve spent just over 10 days sidelined with a right knee sprain, but he'll be available for Houston going forward. The 30-year-old hit in the batting cage Saturday and should now resume his role as the Astros' primary second baseman. He'll bat second in Tuesday's lineup while playing second base against the Rangers.

Torres is currently riding a five-game hitting streak, but he'll retreat to the bench for a second consecutive game. Tyler Wade will start at shortstop in his absence.

Athletics' Marcus Semien: Swats seventh homer
Semien went 2-for-3 with a walk, a home run and four RBI during a 6-5 loss to the Mariners in the first game of Monday's doubleheader.
His three-run shot off Marco Gonzales in the fourth inning gave the A's a 5-0 lead, but Jesus Luzardo and Joakim Soria combined to squander it. Semien is hitting .318 (7-for-22) over his last six games including the nightcap, but on the year he still carries a sluggish .227/.300/.395 slash line with seven homers, four steals, 21 RBI and 24 runs through 42 contests.

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Comes through as pinch hitter
Torres slugged a two-run double as a pinch hitter in Saturday's win over Baltimore.
Torres was slated for a day off but was called upon to pinch hit in the bottom of the eighth inning. He came through with a clutch double to plate two runs and break a 1-1 tie. The hit marked Torres' fifth straight game with a base knock, and he has gone 7-for-14 with four extra-base hits and seven RBI over that span.
