  • Jorge Polanco 1B | NYM

Twins' Jorge Polanco: Homers twice in loss

Polanco went 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBI in Wednesday's 9-6 loss to the Yankees.

Polanco homered in the third inning off Gerrit Cole and he hit the foul pole in the ninth inning off Brooks Kriske. He has eight long balls this season, but four have come in the last nine games. The 27-year-old is slashing .242/.310/.430 with eight home runs, 27 RBI, 31 runs and three steals in 232 plate appearances. His 31 runs lead the Twins.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Pops 10th homer

Altuve went 1-for-6 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-3 win over Boston.

The second baseman has shown some pop recently with four round trippers in his last nine games. For the season, Altuve has 10 homers, 28 RBI, 40 runs scored and two stolen bases while slashing .293/.363/.466 in 50 contests. He's already doubled his homer total (five) from 48 games last season.

  • Luis Arraez 2B | SF

Twins' Luis Arraez: Performing baseball activities

Arraez (shoulder) was spotted working out on the field Wednesday for the second day in a row, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Arraez looks to be making good progress in his recovery from a right shoulder strain, but the Twins haven't revealed a timeline for his return from the 10-day injured list, where he's resided since May 26. He'll likely require a multi-game rehab assignment in the minors before being activated from the IL.

  • Tigers' Harold Castro: Late scratch Wednesday

Castro was scratched from Wednesday's lineup against the Mariners due to a right hand injury, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Castro hurt his right hand during pregame warmups, and he'll be replaced by Isaac Paredes at third base. The 27-year-old is being examined by team doctors, and a better idea of his status going forward could be revealed once the examination is complete.

  • Amed Rosario 3B | NYY

Indians' Amed Rosario: Triples in three-hit effort

Rosario went 3-for-5 with an RBI triple and three runs scored in Tuesday's 10-1 win over St. Louis.

The shortstop opened the scoring with an RBI triple to plate Cesar Hernandez in the first inning. Rosario then scored on a Jose Ramirez groundout. Rosario also singled twice and scored each time he got on base. He's slashing .256/.318/.398 with four home runs, 18 RBI, 28 runs scored, five stolen bases and four triples in 51 games. He's scored 10 runs in his last eight contests as a steady presence in the No. 2 spot in the lineup.

  • Jahmai Jones 2B | DET

Orioles' Jahmai Jones: Returns from injured list

Jones (oblique) was activated off the minor-league injured list Tuesday.

Jones hit the injured list in mid-May with a strained left oblique, an injury which was originally expected to keep him out for days rather than weeks. He played just six games for Triple-A Norfolk prior to suffering the injury but could make his case for a big-league call-up if he hits well upon his return, as the Orioles have turned to players like Stevie Wilkerson and Pat Valaika at second base in recent weeks.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Sits against southpaw

Lowe will hit the bench against lefty Jon Lester and the Nationals on Tuesday, Steve Carney of Sports Radio 620 WDAE reports.

Lowe has had more than a platoon role this season, but he's now been on the bench against three of the last five southpaws the Rays have faced. He's hitting just .192/.304/.369 on the season, so it wouldn't be a surprise to see his playing time continue to dip until he turns things around. Mike Brosseau will be the second baseman Tuesday.

  • Xavier Edwards 2B | MIA

Rays' Xavier Edwards: Back from injured list at Double-A

Double-A Montgomery reinstated Edwards (oblique) from the 7-day injured list Tuesday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.

Edwards landed on the IL with the oblique issue in early May, and after a month-long absence, he looks ready to make his 2021 and organization debut. The 21-year-old switch-hitting infielder slashed .301/.349/.367 over 217 plate appearances at High-A Lake Elsinore in 2019 as a member of the Padres organization. Tampa Bay acquired Edwards in the deal that sent Tommy Pham and Jake Cronenworth to San Diego prior to the 2020 campaign.

  • Vidal Brujan 2B | NYM

Rays' Vidal Brujan: Thriving at Triple-A

Brujan owns a .305/.407/.543 slash line with four doubles, seven home runs, 21 RBI, 13 steals, 18 walks and 26 runs across 123 plate appearances at Triple-A Durham.

Fellow elite prospect Wander Franco is grabbing a lot of the spotlight, but as Brujan's numbers clearly indicate, he's having no trouble shining regularly against the highest level of competition in the minors either. Adam Berry of MLB.com reports Brujan just received the organization's Minor League Hitter of the Month award for May, and his lauded pound-for-pound strength has already led to some surprising power displays. Brujan and Franco are regularly heading up the top of the order for the Bulls as a 1-2 punch thus far this season, and the former's defensive versatility could certainly lead to him getting his first big-league promotion at some point in 2021.

  • Red Sox's Christian Arroyo: Finds success in leadoff spot

Arroyo went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBI, two runs scored and a walk in Monday's 5-3 victory over Miami.

Arroyo drove home a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on a single to right field, extending Boston's lead to three. Monday marked the sixth time this season he's slotted in as the leadoff hitter, a role that's been occupied by Danny Santana of late. Arroyo is slashing .301/.350/.441 with 11 extra-base hits, 10 RBI and one stolen base through 31 games this season.
