Danny Mendick 3B | CHW
White Sox's Danny Mendick: Up as extra man
Mendick was called up by the White Sox to serve as the extra man for Thursday's "Field of Dreams" game against the Yankees.
Teams usually only get to add a 27th player when they play twice in one day, but they'll also get one for this special occasion in Dyersville, Iowa. Mendick can cover multiple positions off the bench for the White Sox but is unlikely to play a major role in the contest.

Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Scores three times in romp
Hernandez went 3-for-5 with two doubles and three runs Wednesday in the Red Sox's 20-8 win over the Rays.
Hernandez was one of six Red Sox starters with multiple hits in Boston's highest-scoring game since 2015. The offensive outburst ended a rough six-game stretch for Hernandez, who went 2-for-22 in those contests.

Ernie Clement 2B | TOR
Indians' Ernie Clement: Remains on bench
Clement isn't starting Thursday's game against the Athletics.
Clement appears to have lost his hold on the starting job at second base, as he'll be out of the lineup for the third time in the last four games. Andres Gimenez will remain at the keystone and bat ninth.

Andres Gimenez SS | TOR
Indians' Andres Gimenez: Notches steal Wednesday
Gimenez went 0-for-2 with a walk and a stolen base in Wednesday's 6-3 loss to Oakland.
The infielder worked a double steal with Oscar Mercado in the seventh inning. Gimenez is up to five stolen bases in 97 major-league plate appearances this season. He's gone 1-for-10 with a walk and one RBI in four games (three starts) since he was recalled from Triple-A Columbus. The 22-year-old will likely compete with Ernie Clement for playing time at second base, which could lead to a strong-side platoon for Gimenez.

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Goes yard again
Lowe went 1-for-4 with a solo home run Wednesday against the Red Sox.
Lowe took Nathan Eovaldi yard in the sixth inning to record his 26th homer of the season. It was his second home run in as many games and fourth in nine contests since the calendar flipped to August. Earlier in the game, Andrus swiped his 10th base of the season after singling in the second. Despite Wednesday's late-inning heroics, Andrus' first season outside of Texas has been a year-long struggle; he's slashing just .234/.282/.312 in 417 plate appearances.

He's slashing .274/.334/.494 with 21 homers, 62 RBI, 69 runs scored and nine stolen bases through 452 plate appearances overall. The infielder is one long ball shy of matching his career-high 22 from 2019.

Indians' Owen Miller: Takes over as primary first baseman
Miller will start at first base and bat eighth Wednesday against the Athletics, Shayna Rubin of The San Jose Mercury News reports.
The rookie will stick in the starting nine for the 11th time in 12 games, and he should be Cleveland's primary option at first base for the foreseeable future after Bobby Bradley (knee) was placed on the injured list Monday. Since his July 30 call-up from Triple-A Columbus, Miller is slashing .194/.275/.389 with a pair of home runs and five RBI.
