Astros' Jose Altuve: Ties Game 4 with late home run

Altuve went 1-for-4 with a solo home run, two runs and a walk in Tuesday's win over the Red Sox in Game 4 of the ALCS.

Altuve had gone 0-for-9 across the last two games, but he blasted his second game-tying home run of the ALCS in the eighth inning of Tuesday's contest before the Astros plated seven runs in the top of the ninth. Since the start of the postseason, he's hit .219/.350/.563 with two doubles, three home runs, seven runs, seven RBI and a stolen base.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Homers yet again

Hernandez went 2-for-4 with a solo homer and a pair of runs scored in Saturday's ALCS Game 2 win over the Astros.

Hernandez just won't stop hitting. He singled and scored on Rafael Devers' grand slam in the second inning and stretched the Red Sox's lead to nine with a solo shot off Jake Odorizzi in the third. He's now homered five times in seven games this postseason while going 16-for-32 at the plate.

Astros' Jose Altuve: Swats game-tying homer

Altuve went 1-for-3 with a home run, three RBI, two runs, a walk and a strikeout in Friday's 5-4 win over the Red Sox in Game 1 of the ALCS.

Altuve crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first inning Friday, and he tied the game with his two-run blast in the bottom of the sixth. The 31-year-old has gone 6-for-19 with two home runs, two doubles, 11 runs, six RBI and a stolen base across five postseason appearances this year.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Tallies three extra-base hits

Hernandez went 4-for-5 with two solo home runs, a double and a strikeout in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Astros in Game 1 of the ALCS.

Hernandez has recorded hits in five of his six postseason appearances in 2021, and Friday's contest marked the second time that the 30-year-old has recorded at least three extra-base hits in a game during the 2021 playoffs. He's hit .500 with four home runs, four doubles, eight RBI and seven runs across his six playoff outings this year.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Doubles, homers in series clincher

Altuve went 3-for-5 with a double, a home run, four runs scored and three total RBI in Tuesday's 10-1 win over the White Sox in Game 4 of the ALDS.

Altuve's long ball off Liam Hendriks put an exclamation point on the game and the series, sending the White Sox home and Houston to its fifth straight ALCS. While Altuve's batting average didn't get back up to .300 and the running seems to be a thing of the past, he showed he's still a forced to be reckoned with at the plate with 31 homers, 83 RBI and 117 runs scored during the regular season.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Homers again Sunday

Hernandez went 3-for-6 with a home run, two RBI and a strikeout in Sunday's 6-4 win in Game 3 of the ALDS.

Hernandez tallied five hits in Friday's Game 2 victory, and he stayed hot by reaching base three times and homering for a second straight contest Sunday. The 30-year-old has gone 9-for-19 with two homers, five runs, five RBI and a walk across four appearances since the start of the postseason.

  • Red Sox's Enrique Hernandez: Dominant showing in Game 2

Hernandez went 5-for-6 with a home run, three doubles, three runs and three RBI in Friday's 14-6 win over the Rays in Game 2 of the ALDS.

Hernandez was held without a hit in the first game of the series, but he bounced back Friday and played a key role in the win. Across his three postseason appearances in 2021, the 29-year-old has gone 6-for-13 with four extra-base hits, four runs, three RBI and a walk.

  • Danny Mendick 3B | CHW

White Sox's Danny Mendick: Joins playoff roster

Mendick will be on the White Sox's playoff roster for the ALDS against the Astros.

The White Sox elected to go with an additional utility player over an extra reliever. Mendick does provide good defensive versatility, as he's appeared at six different positions this season, but he doesn't provide much else. He's a career .239/.298/.342 hitter and isn't much of a weapon as a pinch runner, either, as he has below-average sprint speed and has yet to steal a base in 120 career major-league games.

  • Jonathan Arauz 3B | LAD

Red Sox's Jonathan Arauz: Left off ALDS roster

Arauz wasn't included on Boston's ALDS roster, Bill Koch of The Providence Journal reports.

Arauz was on the roster for Tuesday's AL Wild Card Game but didn't appear in the contest. Danny Santana (illness) was added to the ALDS roster to serve as a utility man.

  • Angels' Jeremiah Jackson: Returning to action in AFL

The Angels announced Wednesday that Jackson (quadriceps) will be included on their Arizona Fall League roster, Sam Blum of The Athletic reports.

Jackson strained his quad in late June and was shut down for about 10 weeks before he returned to action in the rookie-level Arizona Complex League in early September. After completing a six-game rehab assignment in the ACL, Jackson returned from the injured list to rejoin Low-A Inland Empire, finishing the campaign with a .263 average, eight home runs and 11 steals in 45 games with the affiliate. Jackson still only picked up just over 200 plate appearances on the season on account of the injury, so the stint in the AFL will allow him to pick up some extra reps while also giving him the chance to take at-bats against higher-caliber competition.
