  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Registers steal in loss

Gimenez went 2-for-4 with a stolen base in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Royals.

Gimenez continued his solid start to September with his third straight multi-hit effort. Over his last seven games, he's gone 9-for-25 (.360) with two steals and three runs scored, though he hasn't hit a home run or recorded an RBI in that span. The second baseman is up to a .305/.372/.483 slash line with 17 steals, 15 homers, 60 RBI and 52 runs scored through 122 contests this season.

  • Cavan Biggio RF | HOU

Blue Jays' Cavan Biggio: Back on bench Wednesday

Biggio is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game against the Orioles.

He'll retreat to the bench after starting each of the past four games at either second base or first base while going 3-for-10 with a pair of home runs and two walks. Vladimir Guerrero should see the overwhelming majority of starts at first base moving forward, but Biggio should be part of what looks to be a rotation at second base that also includes Santiago Espinal and Whit Merrifield.

  • Vidal Brujan 2B | NYM

Rays' Vidal Brujan: Sent down Wednesday

Brujan (undisclosed) was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Wednesday.

Brujan sustained a minor injury Monday against the Red Sox, but he should be back to full health since he was demoted rather than being placed on the injured list. Over three games during his week in the big leagues, he went 0-for-1 with a run and a stolen base. Brandon Lowe (triceps/elbow) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

  • Brandon Lowe 2B | PIT

Rays' Brandon Lowe: Reinstated, will start Wednesday

Lowe (triceps/elbow) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list Wednesday. He'll start at second base and bat second in Wednesday's game against the Red Sox, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Lowe dealt with a right triceps/elbow contusion recently but fielded grounders, swung the bat and took part in throwing drills over the weekend without incident. The 28-year-old will rejoin the Rays following a minimum-length IL stint and should work in the large side of a platoon with either Yu Chang or Isaac Paredes.

  • Romy Gonzalez 2B | BOS

White Sox's Romy Gonzalez: Heads to bench Wednesday

Gonzalez is out of the lineup for Wednesday's game in Seattle.

Gonzalez went 9-for-26 (.346 average) with a home run and four RBI while starting in each of the White Sox's last seven games, but an 0:8 BB:K over that stretch suggests he wasn't completely dialed in at the plate. He'll take a seat for the series finale in Seattle, and Gonzalez could be in danger of moving into more of a part-time role now that Yoan Moncada is back from the injured list. With Moncada taking over as Chicago's primary third baseman, Gonzalez now has to contend with Elvis Andrus, Josh Harrison and Leury Garcia for one of the two everyday roles in the middle infield.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

    Athletics' Tony Kemp: Sitting Wednesday

Kemp will sit Wednesday versus Atlanta.

Kemp will get a breather after he went 1-for-3 with a double, a walk and two runs scored in Tuesday's 10-9 loss. Jonah Bride will replace him at second base and bat sixth in the series finale.

  • Mark Mathias 2B | CIN

Rangers' Mark Mathias: Walks, steals, scores in win

Mathias went 0-for-2 with two walks, a stolen base and a run scored in Tuesday's 4-3 win over Houston.

Mathias started at designated hitter with a lefty on the mound. He's getting about three starts per week, primarily at DH and mostly against southpaws. Lefties Kole Calhoun and Brad Miller (hip) typically handle DH chores against righties. Mathias has taken five walks in the last five games after not getting a free pass in his first six with the Rangers.

  • Sam Haggerty LF | TEX

Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Notches steal Tuesday

Haggerty recorded a walk, a stolen base and a run in Tuesday's 3-0 win over the White Sox.

Haggerty's seen his playing time dry up lately, though he's now appeared off the bench in five straight games. He entered as a defensive replacement Tuesday and was productive in his lone plate appearance in the eighth inning. The outfielder has maintained a .297/.355/.469 slash line with 11 steals, four home runs, 15 RBI and 24 runs scored through 142 plate appearances. Despite his success, he's behind Jesse Winker and Mitch Haniger for playing time in the corner outfield positions.

  • Jose Altuve 2B | HOU

Astros' Jose Altuve: Homers, steals base in loss

Altuve went 1-for-4 with a solo home run and a stolen base in Tuesday's 4-3 loss to the Rangers.

Altuve showed off his speed and his power Tuesday as he hit a solo home run in the third inning and stole second base after reaching via the walk in the ninth inning. The homer, Altuve's 24th on the season, extended his lead among second basemen. The stolen base was his 15th on the season and gives him an outside shot to record his first 20/20 season since 2017.

  • Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: Late addition to lineup

Rengifo will start at second base and bat cleanup Tuesday against the Tigers.

The 24-year-old was originally absent from Tuesday's starting nine due to some knee soreness, per Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com, but the infielder checked out fine and is now in the lineup. Rengifo is 6-for-16 with a triple, a walk, an RBI and three runs through four games in September.
