Mariners' Sam Haggerty: To IL with groin strain

Haggerty was placed on the 10-day injured list Tuesday with a left groin strain.

The transaction spells an end to Haggerty's regular season, and the Mariners may need to advance to the ALDS for him to have a chance at playing again in 2022. The 28-year-old outfielder hit .256/.335/.403 with five home runs and 13 steals in 201 plate appearances.

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Sits for first game of doubleheader

Torres (illness) remains on the bench for the first half of Tuesday's doubleheader against Texas.

Torres was scratched Monday due to illness, and he's still not feeling well, per Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News. It's possible he would only have been asked to play one half of the twin bill even if fully healthy, however. Oswald Peraza starts at second base in his absence.

  • Adam Frazier 2B | LAA

Mariners' Adam Frazier: Multi-hit effort in loss

Frazier went 2-for-3 with an RBI single in a loss to the Tigers on Monday.

Frazier's multi-hit effort was one of only two on the night for the Mariners and served as his first such tally since Sept. 22. While the veteran's .238 average and .613 OPS are well below his career norms, Frazier is showing some encouraging signs at the plate as the postseason approaches, hitting a solid .276 with three doubles and five RBI across his last nine games.

  • Blue Jays' Whit Merrifield: Three more hits Monday

Merrifield went 3-for-3 with a run scored and two RBI in Monday's 5-1 win over the Orioles.

All three hits were singles, and he was caught stealing, but it was still another productive night for Merrifield. The 33-year-old has three three-hit performances in the last four games, and over his last 12 contests he's slashing a blistering .463/.477/.854 with four doubles, four homers, 10 runs and 11 RBI.

Mariners' Sam Haggerty: Departs with groin injury

Haggerty left Monday's game against Detroit with a groin injury and will undergo an MRI on Tuesday, Daniel Kramer of MLB.com reports.

Haggerty singled with two outs in the bottom of the ninth inning and subsequently stole second base. However, he had to leave the field with a trainer after sliding hard into the bag. Manager Scott Servais later indicated that Haggerty injured his groin, and the concern is serious enough to warrant an MRI. Before departing, Haggerty went 1-for-2 with a pair of walks, a run and the aforementioned stolen base.

  • Andres Gimenez 2B | TOR

Guardians' Andres Gimenez: Notches 20th steal

Gimenez went 0-for-4 with a hit-by-pitch and a stolen base in Monday's 5-2 extra-inning loss to the Royals.

Gimenez has scuffled a bit lately, going 3-for-19 with a walk and nine strikeouts over his last five contests. That's limited his chances to do damage on the basepaths, but he was plunked in the eighth inning Monday and swiped second before he was left on base. The 24-year-old has put together a breakout year with a .300/.371/.471 slash line, 20 steals, 17 home runs, 68 RBI and 65 runs scored in 144 contests while serving as the Guardians' top second baseman.

  • Luis Rengifo 2B | MIL

Angels' Luis Rengifo: On bench Monday

Rengifo isn't starting Monday against Oakland, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Rengifo is getting a rare day off after he went 0-for-8 with a walk and two strikeouts over the last two games. David Fletcher will take over at the keystone and bat ninth Monday.

  • Tony Kemp 2B | MIN

Athletics' Tony Kemp: On bench against southpaw

Kemp isn't starting Monday against the Angels.

Kemp will take a seat for a second consecutive game since left-hander Patrick Sandoval is starting for the Halos on Monday. Seth Brown is taking over in left field and batting fifth.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Dealing with illness

Torres was removed from Monday's lineup against the Rangers since he's under the weather, Kristie Ackert of the New York Daily News reports.

Torres was scratched from the lineup just over an hour before first pitch, and it's not yet clear whether he'll be available off the bench for the series opener in Texas. He should be considered day-to-day ahead of the Yankees' final two regular-season games.

  • Gleyber Torres 2B | DET

    Yankees' Gleyber Torres: Scratched Monday

Torres was scratched from Monday's lineup against the Rangers for an undisclosed reason, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

Torres was initially slated to start at the keystone and bat third Monday, but he was removed from the lineup just over an hour before the start of the game. Oswald Peraza will shift to second base while Isiah Kiner-Falefa enters the lineup at shortstop.
