  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Rangers' Kole Calhoun: Sits against another lefty

Calhoun is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Astros.

Calhoun will sit for the fourth time in five games, but on three of those occasions, he's been absent from the lineup versus left-handed pitching. With southpaw Framber Valdez on the hill for Houston, the lefty-hitting Calhoun will give way in left field to the righty-hitting Bubba Thompson, who should continue to hold down the short side of a platoon.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Yankees' Anthony Rizzo: Slams homer Monday

Rizzo went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Monday's loss to the Angels.

Rizzo took Jose Suarez deep for a solo shot in the fourth inning to give the Yankees a short-lived lead. The long ball was his fourth in August, though half of those came on the first two days of the month. Rizzo is one round tripper away from notching his first 30-homer season since 2017.

  • Michael Toglia 1B | COL

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Gets call-up to majors

The Rockies selected Toglia's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque ahead of Tuesday's game in Atlanta, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.

A corresponding transaction hasn't been announced, but Colorado apparently won't wait until the roster expands to 28 men Thursday before bringing Toglia aboard to the big leagues. The switch-hitting 23-year-old will likely spell C.J. Cron at first base occasionally, but the designated-hitter spot may present the clearer path for Toglia to see consistent at-bats. Toglia earned his promotion to Colorado by supplying a 1.171 OPS in 17 games with Albuquerque following his Aug. 10 call-up from Double-A Hartford.

  • Alex Blandino: Cut loose by Seattle

The Mariners released Blandino on Aug. 1.

Bladino is back on the open market after spending time in the Giants and Mariners organizations this season. The 29-year-old infielder played exclusively at Triple-A Tacoma during his time with Seattle, slashing .203/.399/.341 over 188 plate appearances.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Three hits, two runs in loss

Wade went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored in Monday's 6-5 loss to the Padres.

All three of Wade's hits were singles. He entered Monday in a 1-for-26 slump that saw him post just one double, one RBI, one walk and five strikeouts. He's homered five times in August, but he hasn't gone yard since Aug. 17. For the season, the 28-year-old is slashing .186/.286/.407 with eight long balls, 23 RBI, 17 runs scored, five doubles and a triple through 163 plate appearances.

  • Kevin Padlo 1B | LAD

    Pirates' Kevin Padlo: Clears waivers

The Pirates outrighted Padlo to Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday.

Padlo will stick in the Pirates organization after he was removed from the 40-man roster last week, when Pittsburgh claimed reliever Robert Stephenson off waivers from Colorado. Before being designated for assignment, Padlo appeared in three games for the Pirates and went 0-for-11 with a strikeout.

  • Keston Hiura 2B | LAD

Brewers' Keston Hiura: Hits walkoff homer

Hiura went 1-for-3 and hit a game-winning, two-run home run in Monday's 7-5 victory over the Pirates.

The Brewers trailed by two runs heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, but they tied the game in that frame and wound up in the win column thanks to Hiura's long ball in the ninth inning. Hiura still isn't playing on an everyday basis, but he started 12 of the Brewers' last 22 games. During that timeframe, he's hit .262 (11-for-42) and has posted six homers, 11 RBI and a 1.017 OPS.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Dealing with knee issue

Tellez left Monday's game against the Pirates due to right knee discomfort, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Tellez suffered the injury on the bases in the third inning and was forced to exit immediately after scoring. It was revealed after the game that he's dealing with some tendinitis, per Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, but Tellez was spotted walking around just fine in the clubhouse. He'll likely be re-evaluated Tuesday morning to determine his availability moving forward.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

    Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Pulled early

Tellez was removed in the fourth inning of Monday's game against the Pirates after appearing to suffer an injury on the bases, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Tellez scored from first base in the bottom of the third inning on a double to right field, and he was replaced at first base for the top of the fourth. The nature of the injury is unknown at this time.

  • P.J. Higgins 1B | CIN

Cubs' P.J. Higgins: Retreats to bench

Higgins is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Blue Jays.

Higgins had started in seven of the Cubs' last nine games, but even with Patrick Wisdom (finger) recently moving to the injured list, Higgins doesn't look as though he'll operate as the team's primary first baseman moving forward. He didn't help his cause by going 1-for-20 with 11 strikeouts in those seven starts, and Higgins' right-handedness is also likely to limit him to the short side of a platoon at the position with the lefty-hitting Alfonso Rivas, who draws the start Monday against Blue Jays right-hander Jose Berrios.
