  • LaMonte Wade LF | HOU

Giants' LaMonte Wade: On base three times in win

Wade went 1-for-3 with two walks, one RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 7-5 win over the Yankees.

Wade has started at first base and hit leadoff in both of the Giants' games so far. Since they've faced two right-handed starters, the usage isn't surprising -- Wade is widely expected to handle the strong side of a platoon at first this season. He's gone 1-for-6 with three walks over two games so far. Fantasy managers probably shouldn't read into the steal too much, as he swiped just six bags in his 109-game breakout campaign in 2021, though he may be incentivized to run more if he remains in the leadoff spot.

  • Josh Naylor 1B | SEA

Guardians' Josh Naylor: Swats first homer

Naylor went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Saturday's 2-0 win against Seattle.

Naylor's fourth-inning, 430-foot solo shot produced one of just two runs in the pitching-dominant game. The long ball was his first of the campaign following a career-best 20-homer performance last season. Naylor has gone 3-for-12 with a pair of RBI through his first three games in 2023.

  • Yandy Diaz DH | TB

Rays' Yandy Diaz: Slugs first homer

Diaz went 3-for-4 with a home run, a double, a walk, three RBI and three runs scored Saturday against the Tigers.

Diaz has hit atop the Rays' order in each of the team's first two games, and he enjoyed a big game Saturday. He tallied an RBI double in the third inning before slugging his first home run of the season one frame later. Diaz isn't known for his power production -- he has a career .133 ISO -- but he should be a good bet to get on base regularly and score plenty of runs this season.

  • Diamondbacks' Christian Walker: Belts first long ball

Walker went 2-for-3 with a solo home run in Saturday's loss to the Dodgers.

The Diamondbacks didn't have much success against Dodgers starter Clayton Kershaw on Saturday, but Walker continued his dominance of the future Hall of Famer with a pair of hits, including a solo homer to left field in the second inning. The long ball was the fifth of his career against Kershaw in just 31 at-bats, but it didn't make much of an impact on the game, as Los Angeles rolled to a 10-1 victory. Walker has gone 4-for-10 with two RBI through his first three games of the campaign.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Connects on third homer of season

Cron went 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run in Saturday's loss to the Padres.

Cron continues his hot weekend as he clobbered a two-run homer off Michael Wacha to bring the Rockies within a run at 5-4 in the sixth. That's already Cron's third homer of the season, and he's driven in seven runs over the first three games. It's a great start for Cron that's nice to see after his struggles to end the 2022 campaign.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Blasts two homers against Nats

Olson went 2-for-3 with a walk, two home runs and three RBI in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Nationals.

The first baseman went back-to-back with Ronald Acuna in the first inning against Josiah Gray before launching a two-run shot off rookie Thad Ward in the seventh. Olson needed only two regular-season games to show that his spring power display was still in full effect. After posting two straight campaigns with at least 30 homers and 100 RBI, the 29-year-old could be gearing up for a career-best season.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Homers off Sale

Mountcastle went 2-for-5 with a two-run home run and two runs scored in a loss to the Red Sox on Saturday.

Mountcastle hit the first of three homers off Chris Sale with a two-run shot in the first inning. He also singled and came around to score on a double by Anthony Santander. It's a strong start to the season for Mountcastle, who is going to get plenty of RBI chances hitting behind Adley Rutschman to open the year.

  • Joey Votto 1B | TOR

Reds' Joey Votto: Begins rehab assignment

Votto (shoulder) began a rehab assignment with Triple-A Louisville on Saturday.

Votto entered spring behind schedule as he worked his way back from August shoulder surgery. He evidently wasn't behind by a large margin, as he seemingly has a chance to return from the injured list when first eligible.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Sitting Saturday

Flores will be on the bench Saturday against the Yankees.

Flores got the start at third base in the season opener, going 0-for-3 with a walk and a strikeout. David Villar gets the start at the hot corner in the second game of the year.

  • Padres' Jake Cronenworth: Agrees to seven-year extension

Cronenworth and the Padres agreed to a seven-year, $80 million extension Friday, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

Cronenworth's contract won't start until 2024. Lin notes that the infielder has already passed his physical, and the deal is expected to be announced Saturday. The infielder struggled to a .239/.332/.390 slash in 2022, but he did hit 17 homers and drive in 88 runs while making the All-Star team for the second time in his career. Cronenworth should remain an everyday player for at least the next few years while seeing time at several defensive spots.
