Phillies' Brock Stassi: Hits fifth homer of spring Tuesday

Stassi went 2-for-4 with his fifth home run of the spring in Tuesday's 9-0 win over the Braves.

Stassi entered Tuesday's game as a replacement for Tommy Joseph, who left the game after being hit on the hand by a pitch. He is competing with Daniel Nava, Chris Coghlan and Cameron Perkins for a bench job this spring.

    Phillies' Tommy Joseph: X-rays negative

Joseph's X-rays revealed there is no fracture in his left hand, Jim Salisbury of CSN reports.

The 25-year-old was hit by a pitch on his left hand during Tuesday's spring training game, and although it was deemed a contusion, he went for an X-ray as a precaution. The results came back clean, although Joseph still doesn't have a timetable for his return. Consider him day-to-day until the Phillies say otherwise.

Phillies' Tommy Joseph: Exits game after being hit by pitch

Joseph was removed from Tuesday's game with a left hand contusion after he was hit by a pitch, Meghan Montemurro of The News Journal reports.

Joseph was hit by a pitch in the first inning but remained in the game until it was his turn to bat again in the third, so the severity of the injury is unclear. It's also uncertain how long the 25-year-old will be sidelined for, so for now he should be considered day-to-day.

  • Justin Bour 1B | SF

Marlins' Justin Bour: Hits second spring homer Monday

Bour went 1-for-3 with a two-run home run, his second blast of the spring, in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets.

Impressively, the homer came against Noah Syndergaard, although the Mets' ace was fading fast in the fourth inning in his return to action from a bout of bronchitis. Bour is hitting just .207 through 29 spring at-bats and has yet to have a multi-hit day, but Monday's long ball might be a sign he's beginning to lock in his swing.

  • Mets' Asdrubal Cabrera: Pops third spring homer Monday

Cabrera went 2-for-3 with a solo home run, his third shot of the spring, in Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Marlins.

The Mets continue to launch homers like they're playing in the thin desert air of the Cactus League, and three-quarters of their starting infield went yard in this one. Cabrera's now hitting .304/.360/.739 through 23 spring at-bats and appears more than ready for Opening Day.

  • Rhys Hoskins 1B | CLE

Phillies' Rhys Hoskins: Reassigned to minor league camp

Hoskins was reassigned to minor league camp Sunday, Meghan Montemurro of the Wilmington News Journal reports.

Hoskins was 5-for-18 with two home runs in 10 games this spring. He will open the year at Triple-A Lehigh Valley and could get a look with the Phillies later this year if Tommy Joseph fails to build on his 2016 season.

  • Dominic Smith DH | ATL

Mets' Dominic Smith: Sent to minor league camp

Smith was sent back to the Mets' minor league camp Saturday, The New York Daily News reports.

While he hit only .185 in 27 at-bats, Smith made a good first impression on manager Terry Collins. "I thought he didn't hit like he normally does. I think he's always hit. The most thing I was impressed with is he came into camp in great shape. That's impressive for a young guy," Collins said. "It probably hit me more than anything that he was willing at his age. 'Hey look I am going to come into camp and show everybody I can get ready to play.' I think he's going to be a big league player. He's got great hands. I do think, I do believe he's going to hit. I always think those guys will learn how to hit the ball out of the ballpark." Smith is still only 21, but if his power stroke continues to develop at Triple-A Las Vegas this season, don't be surprised if he makes his big league debut sometime in the second half.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Hits first spring training home run

Rizzo went 2-for-3 and hit his first home run of spring training in Thursday's loss to the Mariners.

After missing some time with a back injury last week, it's good to see Rizzo look healthy at the plate. Rizzo took Seattle lefty James Paxton deep in the first inning. The Cubs slugger only hit eight of his 32 home runs against lefties last season, so any gains he makes in that department only enhance his fantasy value.

  • Josh Bell DH | MIN

Pirates' Josh Bell: Gets first taste of Grapefruit League

Bell (knee) made his spring debut Monday, going 0-for-2 with a walk and a strikeout against the Yankees.

While he didn't run the bases much or get a chance to show that his knee is feeling better, he also didn't suffer any setbacks. The switch-hitter played five innings at first base and appears on track to start Opening Day.

  • Anthony Rizzo 1B | NYY

Cubs' Anthony Rizzo: Returns to lineup

Rizzo (back) returned to action Monday, going 1-for-3 with a run scored in an exhibition win over the Angels.

Rizzo had been held out the past few days with lower-back tightness, so it's good to see him back on the field. Cubs manager Joe Maddon relayed Sunday that Rizzo would play Monday and Tuesday, so assuming he has no setbacks, the star slugger should be right back out there for the exhibition game against Team Italy.
