  • Dominic Smith 1B | ATL

Nationals' Dominic Smith: Sitting against lefty

Smith is out of the lineup Thursday night against the Mets, Bobby Blanco of MASNSports.com reports.

Stone Garrett will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth versus the Mets and left-hander Joey Lucchesi. Smith got off to a decent start this year with the Nationals, but his overall batting line has sunk to .232/.323/.244 through 93 total plate appearances.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Swats fourth homer

Freeman went 2-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 8-1 loss to the Pirates.

The Dodgers only managed four hits in total off Roansy Contreras and the Pittsburgh bullpen, and Freeman's eighth-inning blast was all that stood between the Bucs and a shutout. It's the fourth homer of the year for the first baseman, and Freeman sports a .289/.375/.464 slash line with nine RBI and 20 runs through 25 games -- somewhat disappointing numbers by his own lofty standards.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Enjoys big game at plate

Goldschmidt went 4-for-5 with a pair of solo home runs in a loss to the Giants on Wednesday.

Goldschmidt carried St. Louis' struggling offense Wednesday, producing half of the team's hits and plating two of its three runs on a pair of solo homers. It was the first four-hit game and first multi-homer effort of the season for the star first baseman, who is slashing .315/.417/.533 through 108 plate appearances. Goldschmidt has added four homers, 13 RBI, 16 runs, two steals and a 15:17 BB:K.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Goes deep in win

Wade went 2-for-4 with a home run, a triple, a walk and two total RBI in Wednesday's 7-3 victory versus St. Louis.

Wade was originally out of the lineup Wednesday, but he was added as the Giants' starting right fielder when Mike Yastrzemski was scratched due to a left side injury. Wade took advantage of the opportunity, hitting a solo homer to center in the fourth inning and producing a run-scoring triple in the eighth. He's hitting just .237 this season, but six of his 14 hits have gone for extra bases.

  • Giants' Wilmer Flores: Knocks fourth homer

Flores went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Wednesday's 7-3 win against the Cardinals.

Flores went deep in the seventh inning, swatting a two-run shot to give the Giants a 6-2 lead. The veteran infielder is up to four homers on the season, putting him on pace to reach 20 homers in a campaign for the first time in his career. Flores has complemented the moderate power with a .278/.316/.486 slash line and nine RBI across 76 plate appearances.

  • Matt Olson 1B | ATL

Braves' Matt Olson: Clubs solo homer

Olson went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 6-4 win over the Marlins.

Olson had a rollercoaster evening Wednesday, striking out three times in the win but hitting a solo homer to open the top of the eighth to bring Atlanta to within one. He sparked the offense, as the team rallied around his long ball to put up four total runs in the inning and claim the lead. Olson has hit seven home runs this season with 21 RBI and 19 runs scored over 25 games. Wednesday's homer was the slugger's first since April 18.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Starting in right field

Wade will start in right field Wednesday against St. Louis and bat sixth, Sonja Chen of MLB.com reports.

With Mike Yastrzemski scratched from the lineup due to a tight left side, Wade will face the left-handed Steven Matz on Wednesday. Wade holds just a .355 OPS against southpaws across 88 plate appearances since 2021.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: Out of lineup Wednesday

Wade isn't starting against the Cardinals on Wednesday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

As the Cardinals prepare to begin the game with southpaw Steven Matz on the mound, the left-handed Wade will retreat to the bench for Wednesday's contest. Wilmer Flores will take Wade's place at first base and bat seventh.

  • Yuli Gurriel DH | SD

Marlins' Yuli Gurriel: Showcases power, speed

Gurriel went 2-for-4 with a solo home run and and a stolen base in Tuesday's loss against the Braves.

Gurriel swiped his first bag of the 2023 season Tuesday, taking second base after hitting a single in the second frame. The first baseman also came through in crunch time, clubbing a solo home run in the top of the ninth that brought the Marlins to within three, but they were unable to build momentum and mount a comeback. Though Gurriel is used primarily as a bench option for Miami, he's worth a look in daily formats when in the starting lineup against left-handed pitching, considering his minuscule 9.1 percent strikeout rate in that split.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Receives Tuesday off

Cron is out of the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Guardians.

Cron appears to be getting a maintenance day after he started each of the Rockies' past five games and went 4-for-20 with a home run, a double, three runs and two RBI. Mike Moustakas will fill in for Cron at first base.
