  • Padres' Brandon Dixon: Sent to Triple-A

The Padres optioned Dixon to Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday.

Dixon has slashed just .203/.244/.329 in 33 major-league games (86 plate appearances) this season. Luis Campusano (thumb) is coming off the 60-day injured list and the Padres have also called up position players Taylor Kohlwey and Alfonso Rivas ahead of Tuesday night's series opener in Toronto.

  • Dodgers' Freddie Freeman: Knocks three hits

Freeman went 3-for-5 with a double, a triple and two runs scored in Monday's victory over the Orioles.

Freeman crossed home in the fourth and sixth innings while collecting six total bases Monday. He's collected multiple hits in seven of his last 17 games, going 23-for-70 (.329) during that span. The veteran slugger is up to 52 extra-base hits and 74 runs scored with a .952 OPS through 426 plate appearances.

  • Jared Young 1B | NYM

Cubs' Jared Young: On bench versus southpaw

Young will sit Monday against the Nationals, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.

With left-hander MacKenzie Gore on the mound Monday, Young will head to the bench. Righty bat Trey Mancini will take over at first base and bat seventh in the series opener with Washington.

  • LaMonte Wade 1B | CHW

Giants' LaMonte Wade: On bench versus lefty

Wade is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Reds, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

With southpaw Brandon Williamson on the bump for the Reds, Wade will be one of multiple lefty-hitting Giants regulars who will head to the bench. Wilmer Flores will spell Wade at first base.

  • Spencer Steer LF | CIN

    Reds' Spencer Steer: Sitting Monday

Steer is not in the starting lineup Monday against the Giants.

Steer will get a day off after he went 1-for-9 with a walk and four strikeouts in the Reds' three-game series with Milwaukee. Joey Votto will take over at first base while Christian Encarnacion-Strand makes his MLB debut at designated hitter while hitting seventh in the series opener with San Francisco.

  • Cardinals' Paul Goldschmidt: Homers in victory

Goldschmidt went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and a walk in Sunday's win over the Nationals.

Goldschmidt gave the Cardinals some breathing room with a two-run shot in the sixth to put them up 6-3. He had gone nine straight games without an RBI from July 1 through July 14 but has tallied three RBI and been on base five times over his last two games. The 35-year-old continues to provide a steady bat for the Cardinals and is now slashing .285/.370/.480 with 16 homers, 49 RBI, 54 runs and a 47:88 BB:K in 405 plate appearances.

  • Michael Toglia 1B | COL

Rockies' Michael Toglia: Pops homer Sunday

Toglia went 1-for-5 with a solo home run in Sunday's 8-7 extra-innings win over the Yankees.

Toglia got the nod at first base, spelling C.J. Cron, who served as the designated hitter Sunday. The homer was Toglia's first of the campaign. He's batting just .172 with a 2:10 BB:K over 31 major-league plate appearances, and it's unlikely he sees much more than a reserve role while on the Rockies' 26-man roster.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Rockies' C.J. Cron: Smacks grand slam in win

Cron went 1-for-5 with a grand slam and an additional run scored in Sunday's 8-7 extra-innings win over the Yankees.

Cron put the Rockies ahead 5-3 with his eighth-inning blast, his second in as many games. The first baseman is batting a solid .314 (11-for-35) in July, lifting his season slash line to .250/.293/.451 through 50 contests. He's added nine homers, 28 RBI, 28 runs scored and 10 doubles over 198 plate appearances.

  • P.J. Higgins C | CIN

Cubs' P.J. Higgins: Dealt to Chicago

The Cubs acquired Higgins from the Diamondbacks on Sunday in exchange for cash considerations, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Higgins was having a nice season at Triple-A Reno, slashing .316/.407/.471 through 58 games, but clearly Arizona did not have plans for him at the major-league level. Now back with the team that drafted him in 2015, Higgins could get another opportunity with the Cubs down the road if there is an injury or if the team trades a catcher or two.

  • Rowdy Tellez 1B | ATL

Brewers' Rowdy Tellez: Out another 3-to-4 weeks

Tellez (forearm) suffered a fractured left ring finger while shagging a fly ball Saturday and will be sidelined for another 3-to-4 weeks, at a minimum, Todd Rosiak of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Tellez appeared set to return from the injury list Tuesday after turning the page on an inflamed right forearm. However, he's been set back by a stroke of bad luck after injuring the ring finger during batting practice and requiring 17 stitches for a torn nail bed. Manager Craig Counsell suggested the Brewers will continue to lean on Owen Miller heavily at first base in the weeks ahead.
