Angels' C.J. Cron: Out of lineup Friday

Cron is out of the lineup for Friday's game against Oakland.

Cron gets the night off Friday as manager Mike Scioscia rolls out a lineup where Albert Pujols takes over at first base and Jefry Marte serves as the designated hitter. The 26-year-old Cron is mired in a bit of a power drought as he's failed to homer in June, but he's put together a respectable .300/.344/.433 slash line through 11 games this month.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Angels' C.J. Cron: Explodes for multi-hit, multi-RBI effort Wednesday

Cron went 3-for-5 with a double, three RBI and two runs in Wednesday's 10-2 victory over the Twins.

The 26-year-old came through with his first multi-hit outing of June, raising his monthly line to .300/.344/.433 in the process. Cron endured a forgettable start to the season over the first month, but has seen his numbers progressively improve since that point. The Angels' first baseman has boosted his average 28 points since May 1, while also amassing 25 of his 29 RBI on the season over that span.

  • Kole Calhoun 1B | CLE

Angels' Kole Calhoun: Calhoun homers as part of two-hit effort Tuesday

Calhoun went 2-for-3 with a homer, a double and two RBI against the Twins on Tuesday.

Calhoun has shown some tangible improvements following the 2015 season, raising his walk rate, lowering his strikeout rate and registering a hard contact rate over 32 percent. He is slashing .295/.369/.461 with eight homers over 64 games.

  • Orioles' Ryan Mountcastle: Surging of late at Low-A

Mountcastle, 19, is batting .405 with three home runs and seven RBI over the last 10 games for Low-A Delmarva.

The recent surge by Mountcastle, a first round pick in 2015, pushes his overall slash line to .290/.364/.443. He is only scratching the surface of his potential, as he is expected to have decent power for a shortstop, assuming he stays at that position. He has also swiped three bases in 41 games at this level.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Hits ninth home run Monday

Abreu went 2-for-4 with a two-run home run and three RBI against the Tigers on Monday.

The White Sox offense has been in a funk for the past month-plus, but no one told Abreu. Abreu started the year slow, but he is now 16-for-43 (.372) with three home runs since the start of June. It might be advisable to look into acquiring him now, while his overall stats are still depressed by his cold start.

  • Carlos Santana 1B | ARI

Indians' Carlos Santana: Crushers a pair of homers Sunday

Santana went 2-for-5 with a pair of homers and three RBI Sunday at the Angels.

Santana's 11th and 12th bombs of the year were part of an eight-run Indians' attack that helped the team to an easy victory over the Angels. He collected five hits in 12 at-bats during the weekend series, and he raised his slugging percentage from .410 to .445.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Cranks eighth homer Sunday

Abreu went 1-for-4 with a solo homer Sunday against the Royals.

Abreu's eighth blast of the year provided the White Sox with the only run they'd score in a losing effort. He's now hit safely in eight of his last nine games, and his slash line sits at .260/.315/.415.

  • Jose Abreu 1B | HOU

White Sox's Jose Abreu: Extends productive June with multi-hit effort

Abreu went 2-for-4 in Saturday's 4-1 loss to the Royals.

While he posted just two innocuous singles on the day, they represented Abreu's sixth multi-hit effort in nine June contests. He's now hitting .371 over that span and just seems to be missing his power stroke. The 29-year-old has gone deep just twice since May 17 and has only seven round-trippers overall in 242 at-bats after hitting at least 30 homers in both of his previous major league seasons.

  • C.J. Cron 1B | BOS

Angels' C.J. Cron: Not in Friday's lineup

Cron is not in the lineup for Friday's game against the Indians, according to Eric Kay of the Angels.

Cron will be held out Friday with the Angels taking on a tough right-hander in Corey Kluber. With Cron out, Albert Pujols will serve as the Angels' designated hitter, and Jefry Marte will get the start at first base.

  • Chris Parmelee 1B | MIA

Yankees' Chris Parmelee: Out at least a month with hamstring strain

Parmelee will miss at least a month with a Grade 2 hamstring strain, Jared Diamond of the Wall Street Journal reports.

With Parmelee out, Rob Refsnyder will be the everyday first baseman going forward. Parmelee was placed on the 15-day DL earlier Friday and will likely be out until after the All-Star break. He was 4-for-8 with two home runs in his short time with the Yankees in 2016.
